It is only fitting that Paris, being a city of romance, preserves the fine art of letter writing with L’Ecritoire. L’Ecritoire is not a big stationery gift shop. It’s a small and quiet notebook and greeting card boutique. You can find top notch quality paper here, not the kind for chicken scratch but well thought out notes and letters for loved ones. Write them with a special pen and seal the envelopes with wax and a stamp. You will find everything you need at L’Ecritoire. The cards are pieces of art, some with elaborate illustrations and others are cut so that when you open them they display pop ups that say«I Love You». Choose well, choose wisely. It’s hard to go wrong. Each piece is special and is the kind meant to be saved for years of remembrance.

Lovely stationery and writing instrument shop in Le Marais. Been there for 37 years(as of 2013). Great selection of unique cards and gifts and an incredibly nice owner. Rating Scale: 1 Star: Avoid the town in which this place is located just to be safe. 2 Star: With so many great places to choose from, why risk this one? 3 Star: I’ll try it again or consume here in a pinch. 4 Star: I go here regularly if financially and/or calorically feasible. 5 Star: I look forward to taking my wife or friends here.

Great place for souvenirs that are not cheesy and are quintessential Parisian. I bought a card that came with envelope for 7 Euro that then turns into a cardboard Eiffel tower that is so cute and the parts of the mini Eiffel tower are different paintings from famous painters like Monet and Matisse. cash only if less than 15 Euros.

You wouldn’t know that the art of letter writing was dying a fast death by the looks of l’Ecritoire, a fabulous paper shop near Beaubourg. From wax stamp kits and chunky colored pencils to leather bound journals and three-dimensional greeting cards, l’Ecritoire makes you want to throw your computer in the trash, set fire to your iPhone and curl up cross-legged by a warm fire in a wooden cabin in some remote corner of the world and start corresponding via paper only. The flash may be momentary, but it just goes to show you how far we’ve come as a society when a place likes this seems enchanting, like a familiar, forgotten fairy tale sprung to life. Of course, feeling no real personal need to purchase any of the items on display, I opted for a gorgeous tri-colored pencil to give to a five year old. Since she’s yet to start texting, I’m hoping she’ll appreciate it!
