Les Deux Palais

We ate here on the evening of the Fourth of July after spending much of the day in the Louvre and Saturday Vigil Mass at Notre Dame. It was a pleasant walk from the latter on a warm summer evening.
Our service was fine. We were seated promptly outdoors, our choice. Our waiter was polite and efficient. The food we had was good, as good as anything we had in Paris, though we didn’t try anything _​particularly_​upscale. We had no problem paying with a credit card.
My wife had duck confit (I’m pretty sure) with a glass of house red. I had a steak in a shallot sauce and a cidre doux. The potatoes, either way we had them (see the photos) were done right and freshly prepared. The salads were colorful and fresh, with no excess of dressing. The meat was finished well, with the recognition that fire has been discovered but without attempting to use it as a torch. What is more important, it all tasted good.

Listen to all the reviews… run! We made the mistake of buying the concert series combined with the dinner. What can I say… the escargot was cold, the salmon pasta was cold salmon mixed with something that tasted like canned tuna and the chicken was dry. Take a look at the pictures… they speak a thousand words. I am so disappointed they can even serve this kind of food.

Completely disrespectful to Americans. We understand their culture, but they are way to obvious about their feelings towards us. The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is for the location and view.
We sat outside and it was really close to the metro on the way to the Notre Dame. We had a cappuccino and a latte. They were not too bad just okay. And we shared a crape and crème brûlée. They were both nothing special. The crape was probably cooked yesterday with just a spoonful of Nutella on top, and we ordered a Nutella and banana one. The crème brûlée was just okay.
Just research and go somewhere else.

Don’t even bother to stop here. Place for tourists. The Grand Marnier crêpe was awful.

I asked for a Grand Marnier crêpe and there was not a single drop of it, instead they brought another shitty alcohol.
Don’t even bother coming and eating bad food!

Les Deux Palais est un endroit désagréable, dangereux et toxique: je me suis fait aggressée par les serveurs parce que je n’avais commandé qu’une boisson: ils ont tenté de me virer «manu militari» pour récupérer la table. IL FAUT EVITER A TOUT PRIX LES DEUX PALAIS, UN ETABLISSEMENT MEDIOCRE, DANGEREUX et HORRIBLE.
Les Deux Palais is an unfriendly, dangerous and toxic place: I was physically and verbally abused by the waiters because I had only ordered a drink: they attempted to throw me out in order to get my table back. AVOIR LES DEUX PALAIS AT ALL COST, THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS MEDIOCRE, DANGEROUS AND HORRIBLE.

We were super hungry after hopping off the train and decided to hop into the first restaurant we saw just to get a quick snack and coffee. But my stomach ended up doing all the ordering and I ended up having a dish of duck confit and some pâté.
We realized it was already a typical tourist restaurant with dishes that aren’t cooked the best way but most visitors can’t tell the difference between authentic or non-​authentic French dishes.
The food is actually decent but with such steep prices, you’re better off planning ahead and finding a much better restaurant in the area.
If you’re here just for a quick snack and beverage then you’ll be fine. Just don’t expect too much!

We liked it very much! Hot wine and veggie purée soup hit the spot on a very cold day! Our waiter was very friendly, too…

Tout à fait correct
Repas du 1er janvier 2015 vers 15 heures: Superbe décor, nous avons été très bien accueilli par 3 serveurs ayant hâte de nous satisfaire, et notre serveur principal était très agréable et plein d’humour tout au long du service, il n’a d’ailleurs pas tiqué lorsque nous avons demandé de l’eau en carafe au lieu d’une bouteille de Vitel par soucis d’économie (budget serré pour 2 jours à la capitale). Les plats — entrecôtes et poulet fermier — étaient délicieux, la sauce au beurre à tomber par terre, les desserts délicieux — surtout la tarte au citron meringuée -. Quant à l’addition, nous nous y attendions, nous n’avons donc pas été surpris. Deux bémols: les tables sont très serrées les unes contre les autres, et les toilettes bondées et minuscules, pas de dame-​pipi, sinon j’aurais rouspété et refusé de payer. En tous les cas: repas et ambiances parfaits.

Ok so the place is in a great location right by Notre Damne and Saint Chapelle.
The food is amazing, service is quick and to all «you ppl» who rate it low piss off. The French, The Germans, The Russians, have a sarcastic non chalante attitude about them, its not rude… you just have to get it. A little advice, get in on the atmosphere, the culture, etc. yes it might be abrupt for your liking, but as they say «when in Rome…» ;)

Franchement j’ai été agréablement surprise de la qualité et du bon goût de nos plats!

I found this café on a day trip in Paris (during a long layover between international flights). I was looking for something memorable to capture Parisian café culture. This is not it. It’s a standard tourist restaurant, with mediocre food and service. But the location (on Isle de la Cité, near Notre Dame Cathedral) is excellent, and for those who don’t speak French the waiters all seemed willing to interact in English.

Cette brasserie vaut bien ces 5 étoiles: tout est très bon, fait maison, les serveurs sont très aimables et ont beaucoup d’humour, une ambiance très parisienne… Bref. Un super endroit pour se poser tranquillement et siroter un chocolat chaud en mangeant une crème caramel (mmmmhh) !

Average food. Breakfast probably best. English menu. Delicious fresh OJ (8 euros for large). Friendly staff. Not a bad option if you’re near Notre Dame and have to eat.

I was walking around and decided to stop in here for lunch. Duly noted I should have checked reviews first. Totally disappointing lunch :(
the waiter was rude and didn’t listen to a thing I ordered. The wrong croque monsieur was brought but at that point I didn’t want to wait for another one. It was NOT good. The café was ok.
There are other places to eat in the area so if you can avoid this one, do.

I had dinner at Les Deux Palais by sort-​of chance, since I was wandering around hungry, and found myself on the Ile-​de-​Cité trying to get into Saint-​Chapelle. Instead, I got distracted by a croque monsieur, French onion soup, and glass of beaujolais rosé. Not a bad trade off, personally.
The staff has a menu that is both French and English, and all of the staff I interacted with speak English, too. I sat outside under the awning, enjoying the shade from a sweltering July sun, and enjoyed people watching while eating my way through traditional and stereotypical French foods. All of which were delicious, though I do wish it had been a bit cooler so that the French onion soup could have warmed me heart and soul, instead of making me sweat more.
Great location if you’re wandering around the Seine. Probably there are fancier places you can find, but for the price, it was a great option for me, on a bit of budget.

Cette brasserie est idéalement située en face du Palais de justice, sur la place Louis Lépine. La décoration est magnifique: ça brille de partout !
Mais, le service, le service… ! Horrible ! J’ai du demander à 4 serveurs différents d’encaisser mon café, pas un né s’est dérangé. De guerre lasse, et pour la première fois de ma vie, je suis parti sans payer… !?? Maintenant, la honte et le remords me rongent… moi, un Unilocaleur modèle, devenu un vulgaire voleur d’addition…
De plus, dans un resto aussi beau et aussi bien situé, voir des toilettes «à la turque» dans un tel état, j’avoue que j’ai du mal à comprendre… Décidément, l’envie de mettre une seule étoile me démange…
Pour être tout à fait honnête, je pense que la carte des plats vaut malgré tout d’être testée. J’y retournerai pour déjeuner ou dîner, et surtout pas pour un café, en espérant que personne né me dénoncera à la police… glups… !

Stopped in here after a concert at Sainte-​Chappelle and ordered the roasted chicken. VERY dry and would not recommend it!

A refaire
Pour la première visite de notre petit fils dans la capitale nous avons choisi au hasard ce restaurant. Nous avons eu un accueil chaleureux et une écoute sympathique, surtout très attentionné pour notre petit fils. Le service a été rapide, et c’est tant mieux car nous voulions profiter au maximum de notre journée dans la capitale. La nourriture, en dehors des pommes de terre que nous avons trouvé de qualité moyenne (mais nous sommes toujours très critiques sur ce sujet, car producteur et consommateur en bio) nous avons su apprécié une viande de très bonne qualité. Les desserts également ont été à la hauteur. Notre serveur a tout fait pour que nous ayons un bon moment en famille. Nous avons apprécié sa gentillesse, sa répartie et sa disponibilité. Nous pensons sincèrement que c’est une halte sympa à recommander. C’est aussi le côté «garçon de café» que nous avons aimé, cela nous change des serveurs habituels. En ce qui concerne les toilettes. Ils sont nettoyées régulièrement. Cela manqué peut être un peu d’air, mais au sous sol, pas facile. Peut être envisager de mettre une VMC, mais là encore pour ce genre d’établissement RAS. Pour nous c’est une adresse que nous recommandons.

Pros: efficient service, the location is ideal for travelers as it is outside Saint Chapelle and can be a stop before you get to the Notre Dame, outside seating available, has the look of a nice street side restaurant, the food was affordable 6 – 7 euro per Croque Monsieur/​Madame and 9 – 12 euros for huge salads, food came out fast and were good portioned as well as tasty.
Cons: abruptly handed menus by waiter without greeting, I guess just don’t expect top service as waiter are running around being very busy.
I would recommend, overall good experience and such nice prices for a touristy area.

The food is average, had the chicken and faux steak. French fries were steak fries that I get anywhere. Great location, kind wait staff, tells you up-​front that 15% tax for gratuity is included. Caters to international tourists. You know what you are getting. Crème Broulee redeems everything average!!! The sorbets are very good too.

Stopped by here in the morning for a snack before some sightseeing.
Nothing special about it, but the coffee and croissants are good. Service was average for Paris.
You will probably run into some American tourists here. They seem to congregate in this area for some reason.

Maybe I ordered the wrong items, but I thought this place was very average. It was a gamble to try a place right next to a tourist attraction (Notre Dame), and I wouldn’t say it paid off. The food wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t anything to write home about either.
The steak here was pretty oily and not very tasty, the bearnaise wasn’t particularly good, and the salad was very average as well. Prices are fairly expensive for the overall average experience so I’d recommend a more local place that would give more bang for the buck.

Comme il est écrit dans la présentation c’est une vraie brasserie à l’ancienne, à voir le décor à l’intérieur, c’est plutôt rare ! Sinon le service et bien, on a peut être eu de la chance mais le serveur était sympa. Le lieu est touristique certes mais il me semble vue la situation en face du palais de justice et l’attitude du serveur avec certains clients qu’il y avait pas mal d’habitués. Concernant les prix, et bien vous êtes à Paris !

Best Croque Madame I had in Paris — and French Onion soup!
Granted I only had one bowl of soup and two croque madames during my stay in Paris, but Les Deux Palais was not only my favorite — but also my friend’s who was traveling with me.
We actually went «off Unilocal» … because we were so starved from walking around Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, and other sights. And this was one of the first restaurants we saw — so we gave it a whirl.
And I’m SO glad we did! We originally were drawn to this restaurant by how «cute» the tables through the windows looked… but our server sat us in the very back of the restaurant, away from all the windows — totally secluded. Kinda weird… we thought, but they were busy — — and I also learned that the window tables must only be for smokers. (Not us.)
But my friend had a salad, and I splurged with the soup and Croque Madame. First of all… I swear the bread was Poilane bread… soooooo delicious and not overpowering. The cheese… oh, the cheese! The cheese was perfectly cooked, so that it had a wonderful slightly burnt taste — coating the sandwich. And the egg on top was equally cooked to my perfection — — cooked enough so that the white was cooked.
Again, we totally took a gamble — as we knew this must be very touristy; but our gamble paid off! I WISH I could find a Croque Madame this good back home.

Accueil plus que froid, service nul, prix… Que dire de plus, quel dommage dans un quartier si sympathique…

The food in here was just lovely. Fast too. Sat on the front watching the world go by was fab too. The waiting on staff were really pleasant and spoke good English and even stopped for a chat! Really friendly waiters. Try the ‘Fruit Rouge’; for dessert!

Touristique certes, mais accueil charmant
Une brasserie parisienne comme beaucoup d’autre, avec décor d’époque très joli, et carte classique. Nous sommes tombés sur deux serveurs ultra gentils, ce qui est rare dans ce genre d’endroits où l’on a d’habitude tendance à se faire aboyer dessus et se faire expédier en 20 minutes. Nous avons pris notre temps, discuté avec eux de la brasserie, etc. Un samedi midi après la visite de la conciergerie.

Il n’y a pas pire
Juste à cause de l’emplacement du café, il y a toujours du monde à piéger et les serveurs se croient permis toute sorte d’insolence. Je confirme: un endroit à fuir!

Brasserie touristique
Petit dej pris à cette brasserie. Formule classique avec jus d’orange pressé (beaucoup d’eau et un glaçon, beurk), une boisson chaude, un croissant et une tartine, tout cela pour 9 euros 50, un peu cher mais on s’attendait à cela vu l’emplacement. Le serveur était correct, attentif à caser la poussette et à nous protéger de la pluie !

Mon avis
C’est super, je pense que tout le monde devrait aller dans ce bar et restaurant ! Il est en face du Palais de justice ! Il est génial ! Il faudrait que tout le monde aille le voir et manger dedans !

Un lieu à fuir !
Vu de l’extérieur, l’endroit est magnifique: on y aperçoit le très beau comptoir d’époque. La maison a su préserver l’authenticité du lieu. Passant par là, nous nous sommes laisser piéger par la beauté apparente du lieu. Nous avons donc pris place à une petite table donnant sur la rue du Palais (de Justice). Sans dire bonjour ni même un petit sourire, le serveur est venu prendre notre commande pour repartir aussi sec. Quant il est revenu, il a jeté (au sens propre comme au sens figuré) café et thé sur la table puis est reparti à l’assaut d’autres clients. L’addition fût plus que salée pour un thé banal et un café amer. La cerise sur le gâteau, c’est quand vous descendez au toilette. Au retour, vous remarquez une dame-​pipi qui était cachée derrière un meuble (impossible à voir en arrivant) et qui vous explique que les toilettes étaient payantes (et là aussi, c’était salé). Lamentable !

Froideur légendaire…
Petit topo: provinciaux (de Lille) en week-​end en amoureux à Paris cherchent petit bistro pas trop cher pour manger un samedi midi sur l’Ile de la Cité… On s’attendait à ni plus ni moins, des serveurs faisant leur boulot mais sans plus, pas un sourire… Nourriture correcte. Petite anecdote: leur Menu Express est traduit en anglais sur leur carte Tourist Menu !
