Lyonnaise restaurant in the heart of Marais. Fair dishes but nothing special. Quick friendly service. Too expensive for what it offers.

Loved the interior of this place and they delivered great solid bistro food! I really loved their steak tartar and would call it my favorite after having it in a few places in France. The prices here are amazing too! We went pretty traditional and had escargots that was great too. Given how tasty and affordable this place is I was surprised how empty it was the night we were there.

La petite formule du midi: tarte salée accompagnée de sa salade verte est vraiment super !
La tarte au boeuf était une grande surprise: originale et savoureuse. La tarte au camembert était également excellente ! La pâte un peu sablée est vraiment très bonne et ça fait la différence.
En revanche un peu déçue sur le dessert micro-​portion … Le fromage blanc était servi dans un tout petit verre, ainsi que la salade de fruits. C’est dommage car on reste sur cette note légèrement décevante. Mais sinon vraiment rien à dire je pourrais troquer mon 4 étoiles pour un 5 facilement si les desserts s’améliorent :)
L’accueil est très agréable par ailleurs. Un super moment. Je recommande ce restaurant !

This was our last meal in Paris and a very fitting send off.
Because we couldn’t decide until the last minute where dinner was, we arrived at the beginning of dinner service sans reservation. It was still pretty quiet so we were immediately seated. The place is quite small — it could perhaps fit about 20 patrons at a time. It was bathed in red light from a sign. The host was very kind to us and was so incredibly patient explaining everything to us non-​French speakers.
We ordered a carafe of red wine to share and got a terrific recommendation from him. I ordered the prix fixe menu with the foie gras eggs, the duck and the raspberry tiramisu. My boyfriend got the more expensive prix fixe menu. Unfortunately, we came on a Sunday so several things were not on the menu for the day (markets were closed/didn’t deliver on Sundays). The host/​server/​owner (?) let my boyfriend pick any other main on the menu. He started off with a saucisson appetizer, a salmon main, a cheese course and for dessert he chose the tart of the evening.
It was a lovely dinner. It was very reasonable for the quality, taste, ambience and service. Service was beyond friendly — it was very hospitable. I was very happy with the foie gras eggs which made a fantastic dipping sauce for the bread. The duck was perfectly rendered and tender. The portion was quite decent. I loved my dessert! Raspberry tiramisu seemed like it might be really good or a terrible miss. Let’s just say my face lit up with every bite.
Our bill came out to about 70 euros or about 78 USD. For a three course dinner for me, a four course dinner for the boyfriend and a carafe of wine, it was totally worth every penny!

You don’t have to travel to Lyon for excellent Lyonnaise food — it’s right here in the Marais. This is a charming place with superb food and service that made us feel very welcome, as if we were guests in someone’s home. Prix fixe multi-​course menus were generous at 24 or 28 euros. We had the famed Lyon fish in cream sauce (that we craved but had not seen elsewhere in Paris) and the beef bourguignon. Both were delicious and we found ourselves sopping up leftover sauce with the very tasty bread.

My flatmate recommended this restaurant to me. I went there alone for a late lunch. The staff was really polite and friendly. They have English menu which is great for someone like me who can’t speak French.
I order the set lunch. I chose salad for starter. It was okay. I ordered duck for main, which is absolutely amazing. It was so deliciously.

Perfect salad, soup, frites. A beautiful experience, pleasant service, just right. The way food is supposed to be!

Avant tout, le serveur était au top et le cadre très sympathique. En revanche, la qualité des plats était bien en deçà de ce que nous attendions. Nous avons commandé une assiette de charcuterie à se partager, rien à dire, un magret de canard et bœuf bourguignon.
Le magret était trop cuit, et la sauce fade.
Le bœuf était trop cuit aussi, la purée qui l’accompagnait était froide et la sauce d’accompagnement n’allait pas du tout (je me demande encore ce que c’est).

Mise a jour (mars 2015)
Deuxième diner aux Mauvais Garçons et grosse déception. Le cadre est toujours aussi sympathique et la cuisine est bonne, mais le service ce soir était déplorable. La dame qui s en occupait était sympathique sans plus, mais surtout elle recevait une amie au bar qui a passé sa soirée à tousser, cracher et jurer. Écœurant…

Excellente cuisine française, service très efficace et attention, cadre bistrot très agréable.

I had a great meal at Les Mauvais Garçons a few nights ago. I ordered from the prix fixe menu. Started with the salade lyonnaise, which is mixed lettuce with warm lardons, croutons, tomatoes, and a poached egg. It was very good, and what I was expecting. If you’ve never had a warm salad before, they are different than a cold one.
For the main course, I had frog legs. Messy but delicious. Thankfully served with a wet wipe. The frogs legs were fried and topped with a crushed tomato compote. There was a spice I didn’t recognize that really pulled the dish together. I had to eat the frog legs with my fingers because they are small, it the sauce was so good I actually licked my fingers.
The cheese course wasn’t my thing. It was soft cheese served in a glass, mixed with white wine and herbs. I ate about half the serving. It wasn’t bad, but also wasn’t stellar. I’m more traditional for a cheese course.
The dessert was very good. It was a raspberry pie that is hard to describe. The raspberries were puréed, and mixed into a base that was firm and chilled. Wasn’t a custard, nor jello, nor jelly. Not sure what it was, except delicious.

We had a fabulous dinner here and enjoyed all of the beautiful items on the menu. The owner was our server and made sure we had everything we needed and more! The restaurant is so charming and just off the main road you would never see it if you weren’t looking. Make sure you leave room for dessert they were all delicious and fresh!

The food here was fantastic! We wanted to go to a different restaurant, but due to the pouring rain we wanted a place closer to where we were staying.
There was an English menu posted online, which made it easy to pre-​pick what we wanted to order.
We ordered a bunch of things to share, and everything was very good. I recommend the chicken with crawfish sauce, which was very tasty, and came with potatoes au gratin and vegetables. We finished with molten chocolate cake which was also cooked perfectly.
The server was very accommodating when we were trying to read the menu in French and didn’t seem too annoyed with us «annoying Americans.»

Délicieux et agréable.
Nous étions 5; certains ont prit le canard d’autres le saumon et moi l’entrecôte. Pour avoir piqué de tout je peux affirmer que chacun des plats étaient délicieux. Ainsi que les entrés et le vin.
L’endroit et agréable on peut facilement s’y sentir bien et discuter longuement.
Une très bonne adresse !

Nous y sommes allés ce 13 février pour éviter la cohue de la St Valentin.
C’était une bonne chose car hormis nous deux et deux touristes, personnes d’autre.
Nous avions choisi ce resto car mon homme avait envie de manger des cuisses de grenouilles, donc je suis passée par le site lafourchette pour réserver.
Me concernant j’ai pris le menu à 24 €: soupe à l’oignon, puis magret de canard et enfin crème au caramel.
L’entrée était consistante mais pas trop, car d’habitude avec juste un gros bol de soupe comme ça je suis déjà rassasiée. Ensuite magret de canard avec un petit gratin dauphinois et des courgettes, belle assiette, environ 8 – 10 petites tranches de magret donc on a de quoi manger. Puis le dessert normalement annoncé comme dessert du jour, mais on m’a donné le choix entre 4 ou 5 desserts ce qui est sympa!
Mon compagnon lui s’est regalé avec salade de chèvre chaud, cuisses de grenouilles et pain perdu à la banane.
Avec tout cela et une carafe d’eau on s’en est sortis à moins de 60 euros.
Et nous n’avions plus du tout faim en rentrant!
Bref chouette adresse, nous pensons y retourner en famille sûrement.

So nice, we went twice! Not to miss is the quenelle, which comes baked in a lobster bisque. The oeufs meurette is a real winner too — two eggs poached in a rich foie gras sauce and served on toast (it sounds crazy, but yummo!). The staff is really helpful and nice. A great spot for a romantic dinner!

Les Mauvais Garcons is a solid neighborhood restaurant. Good, traditional French food that won’t kill your credit card.
I’ve been here twice, and got the € 24 menu each time (they also offer a menu at, I think, € 29, with different options for the courses). They have classic dishes like saumon en papillote, boeuf bourguignon, and magret de canard, as well as some specifically Lyonnaise dishes like oeufs en meurette and salade Lyonnaise (and also, confusingly, a «veritable» salade Lyonnaise).
The space is lovely and homey with warm light and old-​school patterned wallpaper. Our server was very kind and, uniquely, did not do that thing where he automatically switched to English when he heard our American accents. He clearly spoke English, but saw that we wanted to try in French and rolled with that.

This is my most favorite place in all of Paris. Everything is just perfect, exactly how I like it. The menu is perfect, as is the preparation of everything I’ve tried.
The steak tartare is perfection — I love it so much I just cannot eat it anywhere else! And not just in NYC (where I’m based), but also in France. It is just to die for. I literally daydream about the steak tartare at Les Mauvais Garcons on a regular basis. And the fries that come with it are also perfect. SIgh. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside…
The snails are fantastic. The grilled camembert salad is amazing. The duck! Oh, the duck, with the fantastic pear & honey sauce! And the blanquette de veau, old granny dish, so good!
We must not forget the Saint Marcellin from Lyon… amazing!
What else? Cheeseburger with foie gras. Need I say more???
Super chilled out atmosphere right in the heart of the Marais, what more could you ask for???
Now to just get back to Paris soon and get my fix…

Les Mauvais Garcons is a charming French restaurant, which has a fantastic dinner set menu (appetizer, main course and dessert) for 24 euro. My appetizer was the warm camembert salad, which was a decent serving of cheese on top of a bed of lettuce with some tomatoes. My main course was salmon, which had been cooked in foil with butter and dill. The salmon was tender and flavorful and the greens it came with also tasted like butter. Really how can you go wrong with a dish is stuffed with butter? I was stuffed so I just got the fruit salad, but my friend ordered the molten chocolate lava cake.
I love the ambiance because it’s a small restaurant in the Marais with one server who was actually warm and friendly. While maybe not the very best meal you can get in Paris, I definitely think it’s worth the value.

J’y suis allee l’an dernier pour un brunch. Comptez 25EUR pour les viennoiseries, boissons chaudes, jus, assiette salee et dessert. Un tres bon souvenir du dessert notamment! Neanmoins pensez a reserver car ce n’est vraiment pas tres grand!

Un resto chaleureux et très accueillant
Un petit resto à l’ambiance bon enfant, où se côtoient familles et amis! Le service est impeccable, le personnel très gentil et donnant de bons conseil sur les plats. Le brunch proposé, à 25 € est très bon mais plutôt classique. L’intérêt réside surtout dans les plats proposés à la carte: des entrées, plats et desserts que vous né retrouverez pas sur la carte d’une brasserie ou d’un bistrot classique. Ici, place au magret de canard aux airelles, au boudin noir et ses deux pommes ou encore à la tarte aux pralines roses. C’est bon et c’est une vraie découverte culinaire !

I had a really wonderful experience at Les Mauvais Garcons tonight. I wanted only escargots, the 6-​snail size, and that was absolutely no problem. The owner/​waiter was charming, spoke English (but in an inviting and engaged way — he loves NYC, where I’m from), and the service was just as good as if I were ordering a full-​fare menu.
I would definitely recommend the escargots — they are buttery, and braised with herbs. I’d never had escargots before tonight, but am considering returning again tomorrow! Other diners seemed to enjoy their dishes as well — every plate was clean going back into the kitchen.
If you’re in Le Marais and want a relaxed, welcoming, satisfying and budget-​friendly meal — go to Les Mauvais Garcons!

Bön brunch copieux et à prix raisonnable (en particulier en passant par le site La Fourchette).
Au menu brunch: Jus d’orange pressé, pain, confiture, nutella, viennoiseries (délicieux petits pains au chocolat) puis, tourtes salées avec salade et frites maison (salade un peu cuite) et enfin salade de fruits rafraichissante. Sans oublier le café.
A part ça, service très sympa et (très) détendu. Très joli déco également!

I really liked this place. Not too expensive, a full dinner for around 25 Euros, and the staff was great. They all spoke English when I was there and we’re helpful. Charming location off rue de Rivoli. I would recommend it and will dine there again on my next trip to Paris.

Bonne soirée entre amis
Entre hôtel de ville et St Paul, ce petit resto est assez sympa. Petite capacité d’accueil mais cela rend le lieu intimiste. Le service est agréable et aide à la détente. La cuisine reste simple mais c’est bon. Ce n’est pas très cher pour le quartier, notamment grâce aux formules valables aussi le soir. Cependant la carte des vins n’est pas très fournie, et je trouve les prix des desserts à la carte assez chers pour ce qui est proposé (tarte aux pommes, crème caramel, fondant…)

les mauvais garçons sont en réalité des garçonnes! Bonne cuisine à prix correcte pour Paris.

J’aime
Soirée bonne enfant, la clientèle était sympa, le responsable fort aimable et les plats ont fait l’unanimité. On est resté presque 3h et personne né nous a pressé, ce qui est assez agréable lorsqu’on est entre amis ! Point noir, le prix des vins !

Décevant
Après y être allé plusieurs fois, je peux confirmer que les dernières fois étaient très décevantes. Les prix ont bien augmenté par rapport au départ et la qualité s’est bien dégradée. Cadre sympa et chaleuheux. Les plats alléchants sur la carte sont assez décevants dans l’assiette… L’accueil au préalable sympathique est en fait assez articifiel et le service est plutôt mauvais: lent, très lent, manqué toujours quelque chose sur table, eau, pain, couverts… Les vins sont bien trop chers par rapport à leur qualité. Conclusion: note plutôt salée par rapport à la prestation, bon potientiel mais très décevant.

On recommande !
Qualité des plats assez déçevante mais contact sympathique et déco sympa (ambiance tamisée avec des photos aux murs des grands noms des années 60 à 80 par expl). La salle vous permet de diner en amoureux ou en groupe de 10 sans être dérangés.

Went twice and liked it both times. Both times I started with the salad lyonnaise, which is lettuce-​based and has a fair amount of bacon, croutons and a pretty well-​poached egg. I had a chicken poulet the first time – good, but I can’t remember much about the details. Second time, I had roasted chicken, which was delish.
My friend had the duck magret, which we didn’t realize is traditionally prepared rose. That didn’t go over quite as well. And then I researched it and found out that these Magret ducks are the poor creatures that are specially raised for foie gras.
The clientele is disproportionately gay, but given the name of the restaurant and the location, I thought it would be almost entirely gay. In any case, the maitre d’ is very convincing as a bad boy, as he takes his cigarette break outside while sitting on his big bad motorcycle.

Scandaleux…
Certes le cadre est agréable… mais c’est une véritable escroquerie. Des plats rikiki, un service approximatif (pas d’eau ni de pain après l’avoir réclamé 3 fois)… Pour le même prix on peut avoir 100 fois mieux ailleurs. Sans compter la piquette à 13 euros censée etre du beaumes de venise alors que c’est du vulgaire vin de table. Et le clou: j’ai demandé un coca, la serveuse a ouvert une bouteille de 1,5 L et m’a servi un verre (miniscule le verre, long et fin), et me l’a fait payé 4 euros. Bien que m’étant plaint, le patron m’a regardé avec un grand sourire et me l’a fait payer quand même. Bref une bonne adresse si on a envie de se faire plumer.

Mauvais Garçons, mais très bonne cuisine
De passage à Paris ce 10 avril, nous avons découvert de petit resto sympa. L’accueil du patron et le savoir faire des cuisiniers né nous ont donné que satisfaction. Un établissement où l’on se sent bien, pas pressé par le temps ce qui permet de profiter des mets, du vin et de la soirée. Nous y reviendrons à notre prochain passage.

Ein ansprechendes kleines Restaurant, am Rande des Marais. Der Service ist sehr nett, wenn auch etwas dilettantisch bemüht. Was aus der Küche kommt ist leider nicht wirklich ein Highlight, die Pommes sogar rekordverdächtig schlecht. Das Beste kommt zum Dessert. Unter dem Strich irgendwas zwischen unnötig und sympathisch.

I went to Les Mauvais Garçons for La Semaine du Goût, so I had a pretty good deal — 17 € for apéritif, appetizer, entrée AND dessert! It’s normally not that much more expensive, so you should definitely give it a go: D This restaurant serves classically good French food. Mmmm!
Even though I had made a reservation, the owner didn’t have it registered, which was kind of a bummer … but he was really nice about it and we ended up getting seated anyway. It’s a VERY small restaurant, but it’s really cute and quaint. The food is quite good, but unfortunately, I chose a not-​so-​great entrée :x

— œuf meurettes — DELICIOUS. i didn’t order this, but i had a taste. yum! it also looked fantastic.
— camembert salad — wow, not only did this look amazing, it also tasted amazing. i had a taste of this, too. mmmm.
— french onion soup. :) classically good
— salade lyonnaise — what i got. SUCH a good choice. it’s the best salad i’ve ever had. wow. incredible! it had a lovely poached egg on top, which was perfectly cooked. i just loved this a lot.
unfortunately, les mauvais garçons doesn’t have a website and i don’t remember the name of what i got. it was some sort of fish thing and it just wasn’t very flavorful. i do remember that it was also lyonnaise cus i ended up going for a lyon theme. the sauce was good, but the thing itself … kind of bland. i was pretty disappointed, but i DID have a great appetizer. everyone else’s entrée was good.
the desserts were all good :) it was actually my birthday, so the waiter kindly put a candle on my dessert.
overall, i really, really liked this restaurant! the owner insisted on speaking to us in english, which was off-​putting, but it was nice of him. he speaks english pretty well. the food was great — except for the entrée that i got. otherwise, awesome place! :)
also, it’s near hôtel de ville. pretty. :D

Chaleureux et sympathique
L’endroit est très agréable. Nous avons passé une très bonne soirée. Excellent rapport qualité/​prix, et accueil très sympathique. Nous y retournerons.

Vor zwei Jahren im Januar funktionierte die Heizung nicht, aber das Essen war lecker. Die Jungs sind super nett und das Essen ist immer noch gut.

Grosse déception
L’endroit est pourtant agréable, le service sympathique bien qu’un peut approximatif, mais le rapport qualité prix est vraiment décevant. Le seul menu proposé, à 24,50 € est à fuir, choix limité d’entrées et de desserts. Quant aux plats, magret de canard froid, et papillote de saumon indigente, à peine accompagnée de quelques courgettes… Le tout arrosé par une piquette à 13 € les 46CL… franchement, pour ce prix là, on peut manger bien mieux ailleurs.

Les Mauvais Garçons, c’est le restaurant typique qui devrait symboliser la gastronomie de la capitale. Pour ce qui est des brasseries en tout cas, on peut dire qu’il fait partie de mon top 5 !
Avec deux menus à 20 et 23 euros, comprenant entrée-​plat-​dessert, vous en aurez pour vos sous autant que pour votre estomac.
La viande, comme l’entrecôte, est bonne, surtout accompagnée d’un large choix de vins comme c’est le cas ici.
Le décor est très années soixante, avec de vieilles photos aux murs, qui vous rappelleront qu’on est ici dans le quartier historique de Paris.
Les mauvais Garçons, c’est plus que bon…
