A 50-minute, 44 € massage, only a 5-minute walk from my place? I knew when I made my reservation that what I was doing could easily turn into a fabulously relaxing(albeit pricey) habit. Run by a super smiley Chinese woman with adorably bad French, this one-room massage parlor is no frills but pleasant. The massage is conducted behind a thing beige curtain that separates you from the waiting room/reception area. The thinness of the division wouldn’t be an issue if there wasn’t a steady stream of traffic in and out during my massage. That’s right, just as I was settling into my much-needed pampering moment that I had planned for a week in advance, the door swung open and a woman walked in and the masseuse/owner/secretary stopped touching me and ran around the curtain to give her an appointment. Five minutes later a man came in presumably looking for a different type of massage, then two women came in and asked if they could get a discount on a slimming massage if they booked together, then another guy came in to buy a gift certificate(he actually came twice since he didn’t have the cash to pay for it and had to run to the machine). That’s five interruptions in 50 minutes of my massage! Even though I loved ever second of the deep-tissue, pressure point massage that I was given, I can only give the experience three – stars because that many interruptions during a moment of self-indulgence truly kills the experience. If I do go back, I’ll make sure to have an appointment during the week at a totally dead hour of the day.
