Paris Attitude

My first experience was perfect: met Robin (perfect English) for the keys, got a map, Pro Tips on where to eat, etc. The next time I found a place on their website and got an immediate email response so expected pretty much the same drill as before. I was told the apartment was available but didn’t hear anything further. I called from home and left messages: nothing. Arriving in Paris I booked a hotel and continued to follow up for days: NOTHING. Ghosted. Completely and utterly ghosted. I finally reached my original contact who said the apartment was not available. I did not expect an apology but was surprised that he didn’t offer an alternative apartment, nothing. How do they stay in business???

Stay away from them. I’ve had the worst experience possible. We arrived in Paris only to find out that the owner of the apartment we were supposed to live in refused to rent us the place on the grounds that it was my sister who placed the booking and not myself (we all live abroad and needed several places for accommodation so my sister organized everything). This left my wife, my 5 month old son and myself out on the street at noon on a weekend. Of course Paris Attitude doesn’t have week-​end customer support so we could not speak to anyone, let alone get a replacement apartment. Luckily for us we were able to find a last minute Airbnb (which we should have done in the first place).
Avoid this business at all costs!

Horrible experience, all the negative comments posted on Unilocal are true. I used them because a close friend uses this agency to rent her Paris apartment. Long story short.
Apartment I rented for 25 days was advertised by Paris Attitude for 3500 Euros.
I paid the agency 1100 euros fee and the Rent Your Paris management agency 7000 Euros
(3500 for the rental and 3500 for the security deposit) and the apartment was under sand blasting 6 days per week from 8 am to 6 pm. I was told that they would relocate me but never did find another location. I am still out the 8000 euros. Chase Credit card company with whom I filed a dispute said that they cannot help because I did stay in the apartment waiting for a different apartment to be found.

I guess they had a sense of humor when they gave themselves a moniker. Their database is always weeks if not months old and apartments that are listed as available are frequently not. When I finally rented one for my daughter who was doing a couple of months of graduate study in Paris they were unhelpful in getting the deposit back from a landlady who was a scam artist that would have done any of the con artists from Nigeria proud.

We were heading to Paris for an extended trip and I found an apartment that appealed to us thru the Paris Attitude site.
What a HUGE PITA they were.
They basically run a website where most of the listings are not actually available because they can’t be bothered to keep their calenders current. They ask what your needs are and tell you they will find ‘similar’ properties and get back to you. When they do the suggestions do not meet any of the parameters you have given them, location, price, amenities.
They charge a large percentage of the rental as a management fee. The paperwork they send for the lease is unprofessional and confusing. Once they have their fee they are unhelpful and uncommunicative when you have questions.
I have rented dozens of vacation apartments all over the world. Paris Attitude was one of the most difficult to deal with that I have experienced.
At the end of the trip I could not tell you what I actually paid in total, because there had been so many different payments, deposits and fees all quoted in different currencies, and paid in assorted currencies. But I am pretty SURE that it came out in their favour.
I would advise against dealing with Paris Attitude. The Paris attitude they have is not a pleasant one…

I did enough research to know that the reviews are mixed with Paris Attitude for vacation rentals in Paris. Needless to say, with bringing my family over for a vacation, I was a bit more nervous than had it just been for me. I would not ordinarly post a review, but I feel somewhat compelled to since my experience was rather pleasant working with Paris Attitude and the owner and manager of the property I rented. Johanna Brown (Paris Attitude), Michel Weiser (owner) and Veronique Guedj (property manager) all returned emails quickly or in reasonable time, and all delivered as promised.

My husband and I recently moved to Paris. We’ve been living with relatives, and we are looking for short-​term (~6 month) housing while we get settled. We tried using Paris Attitude to rent an apartment because the site was organized and professional looking, and they had a good variety of apartments… or so it seemed.
We first inquired about a duplex, but it turned out it was already booked through November (even though it is still shown as available on the website). We asked about visiting another apartment, but they informed us they don’t do apartment visits. We got the contract info for renting the 2^nd apartment, but then we checked out the address and found out it was upstairs from a nightclub. (For those of you not in Paris I’d recommend using Google street view once you get an exact address so you can see exactly what you’re signing up for in terms of neighborhood.)
After that we we asked about 7 different apartments, each of which turned out to not actually be available. On the last one we were told it was available, and that the owner had agreed to rent to us. It wasn’t until we were at the Paris Attitude office to arrange payment that we learned the owner had decided to rent it to someone else.
One of the main problems with Paris Attitude is that most of the apartment owners are also listing their apartments on other rental sites. The staff at Paris Attitude actually has no idea which apartments are available at any given time, so for each potential renter they have to call the owner to check the calendar.
The other HUGE problem is that they don’t actually provide any service besides the apartment list. If there’s a problem with the apartment it’s up to the renter to fight it out with the owner, and you can’t even know if there’s a problem until after you’ve shelled out the deposit (which you don’t get back if you change your mind about renting).
The bottom line is that renting with Paris Attitude is a huge risk. You might get lucky and rent a great apartment from a great owner, or you might get completely screwed over. Either way Paris Attitude gets paid.

, which still has a pretty good selection and protects both the renters and the property owners.

Disaster. I rented an apartment in Le Marais for August. I paid the 600 € agency fee, then I paid the 1000 € rent deposit directly to the owner. I transferred it to his back account, he lives in Singapore. I could have waited to pay the other 1000 € rent and 1000 € deposit until I arrived at the apt, but I STUPIDLY transferred it into his account before I left Australia in July.
I arrived at Rue Pastourelle at 4pm Sat as arranged. I waited an hour on the street as the check-​in person, Olga, had some problem with the metro. When Olga arrived, at 5pm, we climbed up the filthy, wretched staircase, 4 flights, to the apt. The normal check-​in person was away on holiday. Olga was unable to make the TV or stove work. There were no instructions to be seen, not even for the internet. The apt was pretty much like the photos, but the ‘courtyard’ was a chute which amplified the noise of loud rap music, people coughing, spitting, frying food in woks, all the noises of the dozens of people who lived in the building.
After 15 minutes of crawling around on the floor, Olga was able to work out the internet network name and then the password. I was hysterical by then, opened my computer, found my old landlord from last year and rented that apartment immediately.
Olga asked me to sign this 4-​page list of stuff in the apt saying it was all working. Being exhausted and confused I STUPIDLY signed it. I called Paris Attitude around 6pm to say the situation was totally unacceptable and I wasn’t taking the apt.
I moved to my new apt that night.
On Monday I met Olga and gave her back the keys. I then spent the next few days emailing the owner and Paris Attitude, both of whom passed the buck. In the end, they said they would try and rent the apt, and then maybe give me some of my 2600 € back. They were never able to rent the apt. I have no way of getting my money back.
The owner put 170 € in my account as compensation.
I am basically angry with the system. You pay all this money, have no real idea what the place is like. You arrive there, hate it, and have no leverage or power at all.
Advice: airbnb has a better system as they keep the money until 24 hours after you arrive. so if you don’t like it, or something goes wrong you can get your money back.
NEVER pay the second half until you arrive.
Don’t sign their list of things unless you understand totally what you are signing.

I am extremely dissatisfied with Paris Attitude and their level of service. I rented an apartment from Mrs. Leger via Paris Attitude’s agency services from January — March 2013. The owner denied my request to arrange a formal check-​out to inventory the apartment before I left Paris and falsified damages worth more than 1,000 euros so she could retain the security deposit. The owner submitted excess charges for unnecessary cleaning services after I submitted pictures demonstrating the cleanliness of the apartment. Furthermore, I believe the owner used the security deposit to prepare the apartment for its pending sale. I did not damage the apartment and left it in good condition when I left. The owner falsified damages and Paris Attitude did NOTHING to review the validity of the owner’s claims against me. As a reputable rental agency, I expected Paris Attitude to mediate the situation. However, Paris Attitude blamed the situation on me because I could not schedule a formal check-​out with the owner, who purposely ignored my request to schedule a check-​out, and allowed the owner to retain more than 1600 euros of the security deposit. I admit that the owner was owed a portion of the security deposit for electricity and gas; however, I am certain that the utilities bill for my 2.5 month rental did not exceed 600 euros. As a graduate student, I am saddened by Paris Attitude’s unwillingness to mediate the situation and the blame the agency placed on me. My original agent was Anne-​Sophie Delille, who is supposedly no longer with the agency. Caroline Adba is the agent who blamed me for the issues with the owner and failed to help me reach any resolution with the owner of the apartment.
The major problem with the agency’s services is that they do no accompany the renter to the check-​in or check-​out and they allow the owner to retain the security deposit. Therefore, the agency puts the owner in the perfect position to falsify claims and to keep the security deposit.
I will NEVER use Paris Attitude again and do not recommend the agency’s services, especially to Americans traveling to Paris.

I had good experience with Paris Attitude. I rented two apartments in Paris in May based on the pictures and conditions listed in the website. Priscilla Huste from Paris Attitude helped me with the process and i was very pleased with the apartments. The only thing that people should be awared of, imho, is sometimes the owners might not speak English, don’t have email … and you have to do the correspondence in French so it’s better to ask and get help from PA if possible.

Wow … I was so nervous about renting an apartment from them based on the reviews from multiple sites…
I booked a trip to Paris last minute and was scrambling to find an appropriate place to stay (wanted the Latin quarter) for a reasonable amount of money for the week. Every site that I went to (other than Paris Attitude) didn’t have the selection of apartments available (especially for my price point) that Paris Attitude had.
Let me address a couple of complaints that I’ve read on the internet.
1. Their fees are too high. Response — yes they are BUT (and its a big but) there fees are calculated in the price of the rental which I found the overall cost of the rental (what I paid versus what I would have paid at comparable sites) to be very reasonable to downright a great deal.
2. They take your money upfront and then you have to work with the owner. Response — Yes again. That said, one of the questions you should ask Paris Attitude is if there has been any complaints with respect to the apartment or owner of said apartment.
3. It’s scary because you basically pay the whole amount upfront. Response — you pay the 20−30% fee to Paris Attitude and then 50% deposit to the owner. This is typically how its done via VRBO (except you don’t have the Paris Attitude fee).

My comments about my apartment were as follows. It was a great apartment at a great location and price. I could not have been happier with what I paid or the check in or check out procedures. That said, it takes 10 – 30 minutes each time because you are verifying that everything is in order when you get there and leave. Other than that bit of time… everything was wonderful.

Such a waste of time — every apartment she offered me turned around two days later and told me it was not available. After reading the reviews, i’m glad I found one with another agency. (Lodgis).

This enterprise is criminal. I don’t think the people are French; they are so disorganized. I booked an apartment six months in advance, two weeks before we arrive I get an email that says the owner has changed his mind. Great, they have 4,000 euros of mine for deposit and agency fees and I have no place to stay.
No stars, do not do business with these people; it is unorganized ineptitude and corruption. VOID, AVOID, AVOID

I’m not sure if the company had a massive reorganization since the previous reviews in 2011 but my experience renting a studio apartment for a week long vacation was fantastic!
The Paris Attitude website functions really well to browse apartments by location, budget, etc. and it was very easy to apply for one listed as available. After the application process, I received a prompt response from the agency with instructions for the reservation, payment, and contact information for the apartment owner. They were very timely with my follow up questions and provided copies of everything in French and English which was helpful.
A few days before my stay I got a reminder email to coordinate a time with the apartment owner and although I ended up being nearly an hour late, he was there waiting for me and genuinely happy to welcome me into his home. The owner waived the security deposit requirement and explained how to use everything before he left. Check out was equally painless, the owner was exactly on time, allowing me to get to the airport.
Overall, great experience, I will definitely be using Paris Attitude again as well as recommending them to friends. Such a better experience than a stuffy and expensive hotel!

AWFUL. AWFUL EXPERIENCE.

Hi, I think it’s your JOB that you get paid exorbitant amounts for to find me an apartment and respond to e-​mails?
Firstly, I had to contact them 3 times over the course of a month and a half to get a response.
Finally, when someone DID respond, I would choose an apartment she said was available immediately and voila, she wouldn’t answer for days only to let me know the apartment was now unavailable.
LADY. ARE YOU EVEN TRYING???
I called her and e-​mailed her, always, always politely and cordially tried to ask for other apartments. But this agent seriously just stopped responding to my e-​mails and calls…
I am an exchange student from the US have TWO DAYS before classes and have been trying to find places for MONTHS. And now I am completely screwed and homeless. May even have to return home.

Our first night the door lock bound, We could not get into the apt. We had to stay in a nearby hotel for 255 Euros. The Apt. manager & Paris attitude
denied any responsibility & refused to re-​imburse us on the hotel bill. I asked the Landlord to send for a locksmith to fix the door. He refused, instead went out & brought back a can of WD40 which fixed the problem.
The landlord eventually agreed to forego the electric charges (50 – 70 Euros) for our trouble.
I do have to say the apt. was as described on the web site & was very charming, cozy & COLD in March.
It is important to know that Paris Attitude is a marketing Co. that represents apt. owners. They charge 35% of the first months rent for their services. They do not appear to offer any service other than providing the website. They do require cash in advance for 50% of the rent. The other 50% by credit card to reserve the apt. They also require purchasing rental insurance (50 – 70 Euros)
Our representative with Paris Attitude didn’t show up for work till 8:45 & presented a didn’t care attitude & was not any help at all when the door lock wouldn’t work.
On our final checkout the landlord was supposed to be at the apt. to check us out (to make sure that the apt was clean & nothing missing) because we checked out at 7am he refused to be there but threatened to charge us if the apt was not clean enough or if something was missing.
I think with some advance planning one can find a nice apt. in Paris without dealing with an agency

I emailed to ask if an apartment was available. They replied saying the owners wanted to use it that month, but if things changed they would let me know. I emailed from another address and the same apartment was available. Shady. I should have walked away.
We had three people staying for one month, we were given 2 tiny pillows, one sheet set for the main bed, one blanket and no extra bedding. They would bring bath towels from the office that smelled so badly of cigarette smoke they needed to be washed before they could be used.
The small kitchen appliances were either caked with goo or not functional (ie: no blades for the food processor). There were dirty dishes left in the cupboards that needed washed. There was a broken lamp sitting out and other broken decorative items stuck in the closet. I felt like the apartment wasn’t inspected after the previous occupants had left.
Simple things that should be in a short term rental were not there: Umbrella, shopping bags (they are not provided in Europe unless you pay for them), general instructions for the apartment/​cable/​internet etc.
The three of us ended up supplementing all aspects of the apartment from our own pockets, small things for the kitchen to make it usable, bedding, canvas grocery saks, umbrellas, etc.
To make matters worse, any time we would request assistance for something we would be treated like a burden (cable quit working, wifi went out, washing machine broke). Customer service is not a priority with this agency.

We had the most terrible experience with this company. I will never rent through them again.
When we arrived the person who was supposed to meet us was an hour and a half late. The apartment had a broken window (it would not shut), the heat was not working, the wifi was not working and the freezer was not working. It was November so the window and the heat were pretty big deals… The window took 3 days to fix and the heat never did completely work right, but did work a bit better after 2 weeks of a 5 week rental. The freezer did not work until the last week.
It gets better. Our washing machine started leaking into the apartment below us two days later when that was «fixed» the shower started leaking. The neighbors were threatening us every morning and the rental agency was no help at all. They took their time in fixing the issue. Every time someone would come to the apartment to «fix» a problem they would complain the entire time as though WE were ruining their day. Meanwhile our vacation was being destroyed and the apartment we were paying thousands of dollars for was disgusting and we dreaded coming home to tiles pulled out in the bathroom, water all over the floor and windows left open in freezing weather for the bathroom to dry out, our own bath towels used to clean up plumbing messes and left wet and dirty with no replacements…
The kitchen that was «fully stocked» was a joke. Tin pots and pans with knives whose handles fell off when you tried to use them. The cutting board was a 10″ circle of dirty wood, the dishes were stained and gross, silverware was dirty and needed washed before we could use it…
With all of the trouble we went though, the repeated 7am threats from neighbors, not being able to shower or do laundry, having no heat, wifi, etc. for part of our stay we were offered NO kind of refund. It is rare that I have felt so taken advantage of.
