We have been coming here on and off for the last 14 years. You couldn’t ask for a better location on a sun-dappled spring day. My wife and I had coffee here just minutes before we got engaged in front of the fountain nearby. The food is not that amazing but it’s certainly nice enough to go with the environment. The one caveat is this: if you come here, do your best not to sit in the area with the older rather overweight waiter. He is astoundingly slow, forgetful, and all this would be forgivable if he wasn’t rude about it. When he came to our table, He threw down a pile of napkins, knives and forks… In front of an 18-month-old baby no less who immediately grabbed for the knives… And then when he finally came with our food which was some 20 minutes to 30 minutes later he started handing out the plates like someone in a cheap diner, expecting us to pass them out to each other. We watched table after table of people in his area go on served. Again, a great place to go… Just make sure that you sit to the sides rather than out front where this guy seems to have his station. The others who work here are fast and courteous.

Not so great prices and the food looked a little sketchy, with open containers of food right next to the cash register. I guess you pay for the pleasure of eating in the Jardin du Luxembourg. But better deals and better food can be found just outside the garden’s gates on most of the nearby streets. Buy your lunch there and bring it in for a picnic!

We had a great light lunch here after playing petanque in the garden. The waitstaff was wonderful, the food was good, and the wines by the glass exceptional.

Visiting the Luxembourg Gardens and forgot to grab a baguette from one of the numerous places out on the street? Not a problem — swing by to Le Pavillon! The place is easily found when you walk into the gardens from the RER B line. You can opt to sit at the café or takeaway. With the beautiful view outside I chose takeaway. For 5 Euros I got a huge baguette with grilled chicken, tomatoes, and lettuce… not bad at all! Ate half at the gardens and took the other half to enjoy later in the evening. YUM!
