Such a beautiful setting! Just across from the river L’Aven, La Chaumière is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the surroundings. The homes in the hills above the river are nestled in massive Oak trees, that create a idyllic picturesque French village. No wonder there are so many galleries in town. I don’t know how many there are, but I can say practically every 3 shop is a gallery or art studio. Although most places close for the 12:00pm — 2:00pm hours, this café offers a few selections to eat for that in-between time; salad, quiche, croque monsieur, pastries and small desserts. I am not sure I could get used to being on a schedule when it comes to eating, so I was super happy when I saw that we could have coffee and food while waiting for the shops to open. We ordered the salad and quiche plate, which was brought to our table in under 10 minutes. The vinaigrette was delicious and the salad had large chunks of fresh tomatoes. You could definitely taste the butter in the quiche but it was not weighed down. In fact it was light and fluffy, like biting into a soft bread. There are accommodations above the café, though I did not have an opportunity to see them. From the experience we had with the food, I would say the rooms must be clean and tidy. There are tourist books in the lobby and the owner is more than happy to offer suggestions in the area. I have to say the the owner was extremely polite, even helping me locate the post office when I asked in my poor French. Be sure to ask him about his tea pot collection he has displayed throughout the café. He was very proud to share the history! Oh! And there is free wifi!
