The best baguette tradition in town! They have the usual whole wheat, tradition, pain de mie, but also interesting breads like squid ink and curry. I didn’t care for their croissants(too heavy and bread like, not flaky), which is too bad since they offer a breakfast with orange juice, espresso and a croissant for only 3.5 Euros. They have a great classic ham sandwich for less than 4 Euros. Their lunch menus include bun sandwiches which can be a curry bun with chicken to a pad thai shrimp noodle dish with soup for under 18 Euros. Warmer weather means their patio is open and I saw a gelato set-up being wheeled in recently :)

After moving from California to France, we found ourselves missing a place to go for a good sandwich, and for a good coffee with pastry/cookie. Gontran Cherrier fulfills that void brilliantly. The sandwiches are very affordable and tasty, the cakes and«patisseries» are great. My favorite sandwich is the«black sandwich». For dessert, I highly recommend the lemon cheesecake, for instance. And then, coffee is excellent too, with again a large choice of danish or pastries to eat with. The employees are very nice. And unlike many bakeries in France, there is plenty of room to sit. After you visit the château of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and wander in the nice shopping streets, this is the best you want to stop for lunch or coffee.
