Significant serious problem at this hotel — This review is for the Hotel St. Paul in Saint Paul de Vence– We visited this hotel upon our 2nd visit to Saint-Paul de Vence. We were staying at a Château & Relais The Saint Martin, during our visit which was wonderful. Upon arrival at the Saint Paul hotel in the medieval town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence we spoke with a kind man at the front desk who explained the hotel had16 rooms, gave us a brochure and invited us back as we were there for the day for my husbands birthday to experience this lovely medieval town. Primarily we stay at Relais’s & Château & or Small Leading Hotels of the World, and are familiar with the service provided. Later in the afternoon at around 4:20 pm, happy and thirsty after our hours of experience in this medieval city, we went back to this hotel in Saint Paul for a cup of tea. As I walked In, a man at the front desk helping who was assisting an elderly couple told me, as I walked to the washroom, that I could not use the restroom if I was not a guest. I explained we were guests at the Relais Château & in Vence(15 minutes away) and we would like to have tea as well. Given the graciousness of the gentleman earlier and the reputation of this hotel, I was surprised at his abrasive manner. He told me «THETEAISCLOSED!» «YOUCANNOTUSETHETOILETT» As I walked away from the restroom, embarrassed at his outburst to me, I said, «we are guests at the hotel St Martin in Vence»(Nice) yet he proceeded to approach me and place his hand firmly on my shoulder and shove me out of the hotel slamming the door on my foot. I was shocked. I am 5’2 and about 110 pounds. He Was 6’3 and about 250 pounds. My husband and I were in disbelief of this treatment. Not being confrontational, my husband went to the door window and took his picture so we could complain of this treatment. At this point, the front desk man, came storming out of the hotel, grabbed my husband by the arm trying to get his phone, he assaulted him pulling him forcefully around by his shoulder and arm and pushed him against the wall, pulling him forward then back and forth. My husband was saying«I only took a picture» This man, unable to acquire my husbands phone by strength turned to me, as I stood in shock, while tourists watched this crazy acting man, and he approached me, grabbed my phone from my hand and threw it as hard as he could smashing into a brick wall as it fell it down some ancient stairs of this beautiful city. Time stood still for a moment as I tried to make sense of this event. As I cried«Why Would he do this?“The other tourists who witnessed this said«He is a crazy man!» We left the town immediately, went back to our hotel and the hotel general manager. They had a translator take us to the police station to file a report. Please let me reiterate that not one sentence or gesture on our side was rude or argumentative. We are very soft spoken and polite. This is an upscale hotel. We exclusively travel and stay at the finest hotels. This is the life weare blessed to enjoy. We treat everyone with respect. This IS one of the absolute worst, most traumatic experiences-have we ever had. Our evening right now, as I write this, is, my husbands birthday evening and is being spent trying to back up and save the pictures of our holiday before my phone completely is useless, as it’s about shattered and split in three pieces. This is definitely not the expectation of a Relasis & Château, or anywhere for that matter. How was this employee allowed to work in a customer relations position with an anger problem so obvious is very concerning. We are waiting for a response from the GM of that hotel but have not received this yet. Imagine yourself and your spouse or alone, innocently enjoying your vacation to be assaulted without any provocation? This is exactly what happened. We are in our 50’s, my husband is a Senior Vice President for a successful company in the States, is the most gentle kind man. We are devastated this happened. I haven’t slept for 4 nights… Please choose wisely if you are contemplating staying at this hotel. This ruined my husbands birthday today, and our anniversary yesterday, and the remainder of our travels here in Europe. We will go home sad and confused and angry. Even after the police report, the General Manager has not given us the courtesy of contacting us. Since we have had no further assistance, we will be escalating this to a higher level. This was a horrible horrible event which was very traumatic.
