Wine selection is great. And they pair it so well with the food. But menu is short and volatile, beware of it!

Delightful bistro on the square in Saumur. My girlfriend and I had an opportunity to spend the day with the owners as part of another of their businesses — Loire Valley Uncorked — and couldn’t have been happier for it. The owners are splendid people, and will give you a truly memorable experience filled with food, wine and customer service. Attention to detail and going out of their way to be certain you enjoy your meal. The steak tartare is highly recommended — but good luck getting the recipe! You will just have to come here to enjoy it for yourself.

best meal I had in Saumur, quality the whole way, was sitting outside on the terrace watching the world go by… fantastic…

If you are planning a trip to the Loire Valley, please add a stop to Saumur and Bistro Les Tontons. To speak plainly, it was one of the highlights of our three week holiday. Gérald and Sarah-Jane are excellent proprietors, well versed in the region and just fantastic individuals to spend time with. Their focus on quality, attention to detail and love of living translate through to Bistrot Les Tontons(in the food, service, tours, and events). Romain(head chef) prepared a solid beef tartare with potato au gratin and fresh green salad. Dessert included the best caramel sauce in 30 years of dining experience. Pros + Excellent execution with friendly and helpful staff + Solid wine selection + Caramel sauce during dessert(the best in 30 years of dining) Cons + I have to fly 14 hours to return I cannot wait to return one day. Major additional points to Gérald’s suggestion of Fontevraud Abbey after lunch.
