On a recent ramble through Basque Country, we decided to spend one night in St Jean de Luz on our way to Bilbao. Our biggest mistake? Only spending one night! Les Almadies is perfectly located along the pedestrian Rue Gambetta and could not be more charming. Our room faced the street and was clean and comfortable. Quiet, too, due to the double windows. We were warmly welcomed by Bruno(who always asked as we passed him if there was anything he could do for us) and who made our stay at Les Almadies even more pleasant. Two tips: First, parking is available in the Couer d’Ville covered garage(next to the movie theatre). Very reasonable. There is signage throughout the town poiting to this garage as well as a garage closer to the beach. Make sure you follow signs for the«Heart of the Village» car park. Second, be certain to have breakfast(available for a small extra fee — 12 € or so) It was delicious! Bruno pointed out the many local specialties provided(yogurt, ham, etc.) and he makes a great cup of coffee, too! While we were there in the off season/early spring and it was drizzly, gray and chilly, the breakfast nook was still bright and pleasant. I imagine it is even more so with the adjacent patio opened up and the sun shining. Highly recommended!

A comfortable boutique in the middle of the beach town of St Jean de Luz’s shopping district. We 100% enjoyed our stay, excellent location right in the heart of St Jean de Luz. They offer breakfast in the morning, a comfortable lobby and a safe for all valuables. Knowing French is helpful for conversing with some of the employees. US-European outlet adapter is a must have as well.

This hotel is not a botique hotel as recommended by Rick Steve’s. The wifi does not work for more than 5 minutes at a time. When the owners were questioned about logging on the wife screamed that our computer was broken. When we tried to log in she had changed it to not allow visitors. We tried to show her this and she started screaming again. The guest lounge seems to be the living room for the owners. In fact the wife of the owner screamed at me for using a small sink in the lounge that was not roped off or signed that it was a ‘private’ area for her exclusive use. She continued to follow me shrieking about it being her space and questioning our use of the supposed guest lounge. The guest lounge was locked every night at 7 and was not a lounge for guests. Rick must have some financial interest in this hotel to recommend it. The wife of the owner seems to think she is renting a room in her house as she lives on the top floor. This is NOT a botique hotel.
