Pains Westermann

Si à Strasbourg, le nom de Westermann évoque d’abord le Buerehiesel, la boulangerie est, pour ainsi dire, une affaire de famille depuis près de 50 ans. Et cela se ressent.
Aux Pains Westermann, on trouve une belle variété de pains: à la fois des baguettes traditionnelles, des pains de campagne, des variétés au seigle, à l’épeautre, aux olives, aux noix ou aux figues et raisins, sans oublier des pains nordiques (mes préférés) qui sentent bon le pavot, le sésame, le lin et le millet.
Tout cela fleure bon l’artisanal… c’est flatteur, y compris pour le porte-​monnaie: la qualité se paye sans surprise au prix fort, comme dans les autres commerces du Carré d’Or. Sans doute la raison pour laquelle, il y a rarement foule, peu importe le moment de la journée !

Small bakery and tea shop, with small individual quiches that can be heated up to go… mine was delicious.
Breads, cookies, pastries and — most expensive — pâté baked into a pastry crust. Up to around 70 Euros per kg.
I would need to exercise 10 hours a day if this place was across the street from my home. Baked goods… yum!

We visited Pains Westermann almost every day, on our vacation, for the second year in a row. This time for an extended stay.
We did sample breads and pastry from at least 5 other businesses, but at Westerman, consistent, deep flavor and quality.
The bread selection was the best the City and region has to offer.
Of the bread, Each type of loaf we bought was wonderful from a technical and just savoring point of view. All technical terms aside, just wonderful no matter which shelf or basket you choose.
The Pastry, Tart and Beignets were equally as wonderful.
The employees behind the counter were always eager to help us make a great choice for the day. While we dont speak French, between the employees and other customers always saw us to the end of our choices.
Our daughter and son-​in-​law will remain for 2 additional weeks and will return to California after a year of study in Strasbourg. And eating Westermann every day.
