A La Côte Bretonne

This place has great service, outdoor seating and a huge selection of crepes. It’s easy to get to from the train. Also have a good drink selection. The outdoor seating is very nice. It’s in a clam ally way with light foot traffic. All of the people eating are chill and the service is great but laid back. Overall it’s got a great atmosphere to grab a bite to eat, take a break from a busy day and relax.
The menu has pages of crepes. One ingredient, two and three or more.
They have wonderful savory creeps but they also have a great selections of sweet desert crepes as well. I had a standard crêpe and we all split a sweet crêpe for for desert. The price is right to. Not overly expensive. I think our bill came to just under 50 US for 3 of us.

WAY overrated. Menus have English translations on most of it (ingredients -‘beef burger” means ground beef) Credit cards accepted, but there is a 16 Euro minimum, but they don’t tell you until you get the bill. Eggs on the crepes are sunny side up by default. Coffee was good, but manager, even though some decent English and was courteous, still didn’t seem to like us. We felt tolerated, but not welcomed.

Une petite crêperie dans une ruelle un peu ombragée non loin du marché, les patrons sont en plus originaires de Bretagne, alors forcément, cela me faisait envie d’autant plus que j’ai aussi des origines bretonnes! Donc j’entre, je passé ma commande, mais la rapidité né semble pas leur première préoccupation, j’ai attendu une bonne vingtaine de minutes avant d’être servi!
La carte né laisse que l’embarras du choix, j’ai du compter au moins 200 crêpes! Vous pourrez toujours vous amuser à les compter, cela vous aidera à patienter et décuplera d’autant votre appétit!
Je commence donc avec une crêpe“Guingampaise” avec oeuf, fromage, jambon et champignons (mmm!) et je termine avec une «Pointe du Raz» (poire, crème de marron arrosé de curaçao, à se pâmer!) le tout arrosé d’un demi-​pichet de cidre brut!
Je m’en tire avec une addition de 22 euros, ce qui reste dans les limites du raisonnable, et je sors de là le ventre plein!
Cela dit, le seul bémol, c’est la lenteur du service et ils pourraient aussi faire un petit effort pour sourire!

If only I had data to access Unilocal when I was abroad. My group wouldn’t have had to stumble around for 20 minutes till we found the unassuming, cobblestone alley that led to this little gem. We were in the area for the same reason 99.9% of the tourist population was there for and after trouping around the palace for several hours we decided we really needed some R&R.
This is not a hole-​in-​the-​wall establishment, but it certainly was dark enough in there to be considered for it. You walk in and there are a couple tables lined up against the wall and a narrow walkway that squeezes past the kitchen and griddle stones. We were led into the larger, but equally dark, back room and given a seat. There is a lot of seafaring and boats in the décor, which honestly made the place feel kind of cozy to me (I don’t know why I don’t have a history of seafaring). It was late for lunch and the place was practically empty except for two ladies gossiping out on the patio and a small family in the other corner of the room.
We ordered a bottle of sweet alcoholic apple cider and each ordered a crêpe.
I had the tuna and prawn crêpe w/​runny egg yolk. This stuff was good, though I wouldn’t recommend it for those who do not like fishy flavors. The crêpe, made of buckwheat, was nice and thin, and the runny egg yolk gave the a much needed richness and pulled everything together. My friends ordered the queens bay scallop crêpe, which he also approved of. The apple cider was delicious and had only a hint of alcoholic taste in it.
All-​in-​all this was a great find and I’d definitely recommend it for a nice, cheap lunch if you’re in the area.

Petit crêperie sympa dans le centre de Versailles, les crêpes et les galettes sont bonnes et les prix correct. Il y a peu de place, il faut donc réserver. L’accueil n’est pas des plus chaleureux, c’est dommage.

The reason I liked this spot was because it felt truly local. After spending 3 hours at the Palace of Versailles, it felt good to pull out my iPhone and tune into the Unilocal app to find a nice spot to eat. A La Cote Bretonne won for the lunch selection because (1) it was off the beaten path and (2) my wife wanted a crêpe.
Situated on a pedestrian alleyway, A La Cote Bretonne consists of two small rooms. One contains 2 – 3 tables pushed up against the wall on the right, with the kitchen on the left; the second is a small, dark room filed with sailing/​boating-​themed décor and about 10 small tables. When I say you are on top of your neighbor, I am not kidding. It was so pleasant watching locals eat their lunch with a smile, completely ignoring the fact my wife and I were obviously tourists in a very touristy city.
The menu is basic for a creperie. There are about 70 different ways you can order your buckwheat and salt crêpe for a main course, or a more delicate wheat and sugar crêpe for dessert. The service was prompt and efficient. The tall smiling man that waited on us was so kind that we spoke so very little French, and appreciated our trying. He explained not only the menu, but when we decided on a crêpe, he explained the meaning of the name behind the dish. I ended up going with the Guingampaise, a tasty dish of cheese, mushrooms, ham and egg … with a crêpe of ice cream and honey for dessert. To drink, I enjoyed a local cola, Breizh Cola, which was a nice change of pace from a Coca Cola. I would drink one again (but don’t think I’ll stumble on one in Memphis).
I give this place 4 stars because it was a really nice, cozy spot. I would certainly eat here again.

Mouais. J’enlève une étoile à ce lieu qui a grandement perdu de son charme.
J’y suis allée avec ma famille un samedi soir, en ayant réservé. Il nous a fallu attendre 20 minutes après l’heure de la résa pour obtenir notre table. Un peu moyen, surtout que ma mamie était là, et qu’à 86 ans on né reste pas debout. Autant dire que ça n’a pas vraiment dérangé l’équipe, et que j’ai dû aller chercher moi-​même une chaise.
Une fois assis, nous avons également attendu pour avoir les cartes, puis pour qu’on prenne notre commande. La réservation initiale était à 20h15, nos premières crêpes arrivent à 21h35…
De même, au moment du dessert, sur 6 personnes, nous avons été 2 à recevoir nos crêpes 15 minutes après tout le monde.
Donc oui, c’est bon, mais j’ai eu du mal à passer outré un bon gros sentiment de foutage de g***le et la politesse inexistante du personnel.
C’est d’autant plus dommage que j’y allais avant avec plaisir. Si les gérants décident de revenir à un comportement un peu plus commercial, on verra si j’y retournerai.
Conclusion: allez-​y le midi en semaine, ou n’y allez pas.

Schon wieder der letzte Urlaubsabend :(
Heute ließen wir uns von unserem Gastgeber in eine Creperie im beschaulich dörflichen Versailles entführen. Crêpe essen ist ein weiteres Muss beim Frankreich-​Aufenthalt. Das Lokal liegt in einer wirklich idyllischen Gasse, beliebt und doch ruhig, viele Außenplätze, schöné Stimmung.
Der Kellner war nicht gerade die Herzlichkeit in Person, was aber wohl typisch französisch ist (sagen deutsche Medien und unser Gastgeber), seine Kollegin, die uns später bediente, war um einiges netter. Aber er reichte uns fix die Karte und — poaah, Überforderung!- Ich habe noch nie so viele Crêpe-​Variationen auf einer Karte gesehen. Dazu trinkt mal hier wohl typisch bretonisch Cidre. Gute Idee, aber auch hier ca. 10 Sorten zur Auswahl wie gut, dass sich keiner von uns mit Cidre auskennt. Wir nehmen den halbtrockenen, halbtrocken klingt immer gut, mögen tendenziell alle.
Ich weiß nicht mehr, welchen Crêpe meine Begleiter hatten, aber ich nahm eine vegetarische Variante (Hallo, gutes Gewissen außerdem wollte ich auch keinen Crêpe für 9 € bestellen, was ich dann mit Blick auf den riiiiesen Meeresfrüchtecrepe am Nebentisch ein wenig bereute).
Der gute gekühlte Cidre war toll! Da kann der deutsche Supermarkt-​Cidre mal absolut nicht mithalten! Stilecht trinkt man hier aus Tontassen, und da 10 € pro 0,75 l auch wirklich okay sind, konnten wir drei uns zum Dessert noch einen zweiten gönnen.
Essen kostet hier unter 10 € pro Gang, nach anderen Getränken habe ich jetzt nicht geguckt. Nach den herzhaften Crepes gab es für die Männer noch einen süßen hinterher, für mich 3 Kugeln Eis (ich wollte die ganze Zeit schon ein Eis, aber in Paris ist das derart schweineteuer, dass ich immer verzichtet habe). Innenraum und Toiletten wurden nicht besucht, aber draußen ist es wirklich sehr gemütlich. Ich überlege, meine nächsten Ferien mal wieder in der Bretagne zu verbringen, wenn es da so lecker ist! Und da der Mann die Crepes hier noch besser findet als bei unserem Lieblings-​Crepestand (
) in Deutschland gibt volle Punktzahl.

Etant souvent allés en Bretagne et originaires de l’Ouest de la France, la galette est un plat que nous connaissons plutôt.Je finis par me demander si nous sommes trop difficiles ou bien si seules les vraies et bonnes galettes né se trouvent qu’en Bretagne??? La recette est pourtant des plus simples et des plus accessible niveau coût.
Encore un très bof donc pour cette énième crêperie testée en région parisienne où la garniture n’avait aucun goût, tout comme la pâte et les crêpes à peine cuites. L’accueil est exécrable (excepté le gérant un grand monsieur, qui lui était commerçant et aimable), sans cela les serveurs sont très limites (notamment une serveuse odieuse qui a humiliée sa jeune collègue devant tous les clients, une étudiante qui avait un job d’été sans doute).
Et pour vos employés changer leurs tenues de travail serait nécessaire à mon avis, les coupes sont atroces et le jaunes fait mal aux yeux!

Even in France, Unilocal sends me in the right direction. We came for lunch today. I highly suggest a reservation. It is pretty small and gets filled fast. Luckily, the service is VERY fast and VERY friendly. I mean, very nice. There was a very tall man who was working the room and was very nice to everyone and spoke English. I would say that every other table was filled by French customers.
We had both savory and sweet crepes. The daily special was a savory ham and cheese crêpe, a sweet crêpe and the house cider. All for 10euros. This was a fun find!
P. S. the small street is lined with cute shops.

La patronne grimace, le reste s’améliore
Indéniablement, le côte retord de la patronne derrière ses fourneaux gâche la fête. Si la salle est assez exiguë, elle rappelle l’ambiance des bars bretons de Port Tudy. Pour l’ambiance Lounge, ce n’est certes pas la bonne adresse. Les galettes et crêpes sont excellentes… Lorsque j’y suis allé, j’avais avec moi un bébé, un petit garçon et deux adultes. Le serveur qui s’occupait de nous était très sympa, agréable et même patient avec mon fils (4 ans) qui né ratait pas une occasion de mettre un peu d’ambiance. Contrairement à d’autres commentaires, nous n’avons pas attendu longtemps nos galettes, servies à la volée… (mais nous n’étions que 4). Prix imbattables. Accueil: 0 étoile. Service: 4 étoiles (cela moyenne). Décor: 2 étoiles. Ambiance: 3 étoiles. Qualité: 5 étoiles Prix: 5 étoiles.

Suivant notre envie du moment (des crêpes) et les avis Unilocal,nous avons testé cette crêperie très bien située dans une ruelle du quartier Notre-​Dame.
Énorme déception, la sole de mon amie est trop cuite, trop salée… Ma galette est quelconque. Bref, nous sommes partis sans prendre de dessert.

Un choix incroyable, très bonnes galettes mais accueil perfectible
Notre repas a été conforme aux avis trouvés sur cityvox: un choix gigantesque de galettes et une préparation à la minute qui ravira les puristes de l’art culinaire breton. Le cadre est agréable mais les tables sont vraiment proches, il vaut mieux oublier la soirée intime en amoureux. Cerise sur le gâteau, les prix sont raisonnables et les assiettes bien garnies. Tout serait donc bien s’il n’y avait le bémol du service: un accueil froid voire antipathique, des serveurs peu arrangeants et une impression d’être juste là pour payer au plus vite le repas. Déçu ! Heureusement qu’il reste les galettes.

Stumbled upon this gem while exploring the back alleys of the city. It looked cute and welcoming so we gave it a shot.
Enormous menu, packed with locals, great food, great artisanal ciders, and a very friendly staff, although I’ve read that «the mother» (it’s a family-​run place and has been for something like 50 years) can be very short with folks at times.
Spend the day at the château, find your way here when you’re done, and stay awhile; it’s worth it and the train back to Paris runs pretty late.

Great food, extensive variety, quaint location and friendly staff. Definitely recommended to anyone looking for great crepes and galettes.

I don’t quite understand how this restaurant merits 4.5 stars. Sure: it was crowded, completely filled by locals by 7:30 on a Saturday night. But there were so many reasons to be frustrated with my 30 euro pp bill:
— the restaurant itself was not a pleasant place. It was dark, damp, musty, very warm inside
— the menu was outrageous: there must have been 100+ different crepes here. Its a big sign that most of the ingredients were not fresh; I was glad I stuck to the preset «menu» combinations
— we ordered one out of menu item: a shrimp crêpe that was horrendous: very pungent, obviously not fresh
— and my oh my, the dessert crêpe — something that I was looking forward to given the rave reviews about it. Perhaps I made a mistake with the grand marnier, but my crêpe was drenched with it. I couldn’t taste much of the ingredients inside. It was like a crêpe that was dipped and soaked in alcohol. Essentially eating a cocktail
The saving grace was the cider. A solid beverage that was tasty and refreshing.
This was not the worse restaurant I have been to, but given the multitude of options you could find in the Paris and Versailles areas, this is not worth your time. You dont need to eat at the Gordon Ramsay restaurant in the Trianon Palace to have a good meal. Honestly, I had a better experience eating the chicken wings down the street at Quick Burger than a single crêpe here at Bretonne.
Not your style — then just choose any Bistrot and Patisserie combo down the street.

Ambiance… crêpe à la grimace
On arrive vers 12h35 pour une réservation à 12h30, la patronne nous regarde avec un drôle d’air, un femme arrive derrière et lui dit qu’elle a réservé aussi et lui donne son nom, la patronne lui réponds: «vous avez l’air pressée mais vous avez 10 minutes de retard !». Le tableau est dressé… Décor vieillot, chaleur à la limite du supportable, très peu de place pour s’installer, le service est long ! A une autre table on entend un dame demander quelque chose, on lui répond sèchement, Mme on sert les gens dans l’ordre d’arrivée ! Les serveurs se chamaillent, bref l’ambiance est bonne à tout niveau ! Après une longue attente, les galettes arrivent mais pas toutes ensembles, on mange donc en décalé, certes elles sont bonnes, mais l’ambiance plombe le repas. L’addition met du temps, poussé part la chaleur ambiante nous partons payer à la caisse, assez déçu par cette adresse ! Tout est bien préparé à la demande et à bon goût… quand même !

First, make reservations — I was seated immediately at around 7:45pm, but it very quickly filled up and I only saw one couple seated without a reservation after that for the 1.5 hours I was there.
Overall, pretty good dinner faire for a reasonable price; killer desserts (kind of the opposite of a previous reviewer, for me). Wait staff seemed to speak passable English, although I had no problem with their French.
I ordered a «menu» (pre-​determined 1 or 2 entrée crepes and a dessert crêpe) rather than ordering individually. Since a) I skipped lunch and b) I’m American, I figured I should order the larger 2+1 menu, but I would have been quite happy with the smaller choices — they’re quite filling and I was unpleasantly stuffed after 3. The «menus» range from 15 – 25 Euro.
I was feeling about three stars during the entrée crepes. I had a fairly tasty one with egg, cheese, salmon and raw onions, and a second with bacon, scallops and yolk (raw egg). Maybe my tastes aren’t French enough, but these both sounded better on the menu than they tasted to me – I figured the second would involve raw egg and that I could handle it, but apparently the years of conditioning from my mom not to eat the brownie batter made me considerably uneasy with it.
The dessert, however, blew me away. I can’t even remember exactly what was on it, some sort of maple syrup, almonds, and an amazing vanilla ice cream — but I suspect it doesn’t much matter which you order. Five stars for that.
I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again, but also wouldn’t mind returning if in the area — though next time I might start with dessert… and finish with it.

This was one of the best meals my friends and I had on our 10 day European vacation, and we really just stumbled on this place. It’s tucked away in a cute little alley with some other restaurants and a couple stores. We saw the alley while on our way to a restaurant recommended by the Time Out Paris book. When we got to the Time Out place, we didn’t like the menu so we decided to back track to the alley and see what we could see. So glad we did!
They have a HUGE selection of galletes and crepes and fortunately (as my French is very rusty and my friends’ is nonexistent) they have English translations on their menu. It was hard choosing from so many delicious-​sounding options.
We eventually made our decisions and ordered. The food is made fresh and our entrees came out as they were ready, which means we didn’t all get our food at the same time. This lead to a little mix-​up, in which the waiter incorrectly identified the 2^nd entrée he brought out, and gave my dish to my friend, who started eating it. A bit later he came out with the third dish and apologized that he was mistaken and the dish he had was my friends, and my friend was eating mine. Well, we decided to make the best of it… both looked good, so we each ate half and then switched plates. It actually worked out better that way, since I got to try two delicious galletes instead of one.
After packing away our savory options, we got our desserts which were also good, though pretty basic.
If you’re looking for food in Versailles, come eat here. It’s a couple blocks out of the way if you’re walking from the RER station to the Château, but it’s well worth the detour!

Peut mieux faire
J’y avais été en 2008 et j’avais adoré. J’y suis retourné fin 2009 et là, portions plus minces, goût moins bon, j’espère qu’ils vont renouer avec la qualité pour que je révise mon jugement…

Excellente crêperie
Les crêpes y sont vraiment excellentes, salées comme sucrées. L’accueil par contre n’est pas top. Ils né prennent pas les réservations si vous êtes trop nombreux.

Pour rejoindre l’avis général, crêpes vraiment très bonnes. Beaucoup (trop?) de choix. Chaleureux. Petits prix !

Probablement la meilleure crèperie que je connais.
Service un poil rugeux, salle petite et vieillote. Bien prévoir de réserver pendant les périodes d’affluence.
Les crèpes y sont délicieuses, les galettes aussi évidement.
A recommander chaudement.

Les crepes sont excellentes et la terrasse vraiment très sympa en été.

LA crêperie de Versailles!
La qualité des galettes né bouge pas d’année en année. Il faut souvent être patient car le service peut être un peu long quand le resto est plein (ce qui arrive souvent). Mais l’attente en vaut la chandelle!

Super crêperie aux airs de Bretagne et tenue par de vrais bretons. Ils ont plus de 30 ans d’expériences dans les crêpes et galettes. Les poissons sont du jour, ainsi que tout le reste des denrées.
Les mets sont préparés devant vous et rien né vous est caché.
Vous y mangerez bien et copieusement tout en baignant dans une ambiance sympa à souhait.
Le petit bémol est qu’il faut parfois attendre 20 minutes dehors avant de pouvoir y entrer (succès oblige)
