Consistently good! Of course, there are no shortage of great restaurants in the south of France, but this place had great prices, delicious food and nice service. Its situated along the steps below the church in Vielle Ville, so the view is quite nice. We try to eat gluten free, so it was great that they were open to switching out regular noodles with rice noodles on a couple of items. There were plenty of spicy dishes to choose from, and the desert offerings were real nice. Our kids really enjoyed the phở! One big bonus is that the beer/wine drinks are surprisingly cheap(~3EU)… hard to beat that in Villefranche. The restaurant is pretty small, with only a handful of tables outside, so get there early or make a reservation if you want a patio seat. Cash only!

OMG I love this place!!! Ok, ok, I know. I am reviewing a Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of the French Riviera. Get over it. Truly the greatest lasting legacy of French Indochine is the colonization of Vietnamese food. Look at what the Dutch did with Indonesia and you will immediately get an appreciation for how much we owe a debt of gratitude for the French mis-adventures in SE Asia. This place is a serious gem. While the menu is clearly written for those who consider fish sauce exotic, it took me very little to explain to the proprietor that I mean business when I say extra funky and extra spicy. The nem(1.5 euro a piece, pork or chicken) were an exercise in fried to fresh goodness. Sizeable without being overwhelming, each roll was packed with flavor and served with a hearty dose of mint leaves and lettuce.(Note: ask for the nuoc mam lest you actually want that wretched sweet chili sauce) My spicy squid(12 euro) came fresh out of the kitchen the moment the left the wok. For those in the know, the smoky flavor of wok wey is where it’s at. My squid, fork tender and lovingly scored, exhibited every bit of salty, sweet, spicy, umami goodness. Mmmm. And the serving size was filling. If I could, I would seriously move into this place. It’s that good.
