I had the pleasure of spending my New Year’s Eve 2012 in the breathtaking corner of Ireland that is Achill Island. And sure what other way would ye spend the evening than in a nice cosy boozer. The Annexe Inn was right up the road from our holiday cottages and so seemed the natural choice. Boy was it the right one. Despite being absolutely rammed from door to door; the bar staff were massively on top of things, serving at lightning speed, pumping the(rather delicious) Guinness out like there was no tomorrow(insert Mayan joke as desired) Under normal circumstances, this place would have plenty of room(perhaps even a little too much so if you’re looking for a ‘snug’ experience), but for the night that was in it, it really was absolutely packed. There was a trad band going in the corner, who were really genuinely great, and as I understand it, these guys are there most nights in «peak season»(although I’m not entirely sure when that is in this lovely rainy island of ours!) Bottom line, if you’re looking for a nice pub for a good hot whiskey to warm you up after a walk along the beach(let’s face it, you’re never gonna need an iced drink to cool down in this part of the country!), the Annexe Inn is a great place to start.

An OK local pub in Keel on Achill Island. There is a bar, seating, some sort of electronic gambling machine and a pool table. They do serve a very good Guinness though.
