Derek is simply the best mechanic you will ever come across. I took my mum’s car to him as she believed it needed new belts as it was making a slight squeak — he listened and initially agreed. Then as I was about to drive off he heard the noise change and called me back. Derek then explained that as the noise changed when i put the clutch in it was actually a bearing in the gearbox that was making the noise. He knows his stuff. On another occasion he, without being asked, fixed the fuel gauge on the same car. Another garage had removed the fuel tank to clean it after dirty fuel and the gauge did not work afterwards — their solution was to reset the trip clock and judge that way when re-​fueling was necessary. This would not be acceptable to Derek and if he sees something that needs fixed, he fixes it!
