This is my friend’s local, so maybe I’m slightly biased, but this is one of the nicest pubs I’ve been to in Ireland. There are no large screens, no jukeboxes, no electronic stuff. Instead there are copper pots hanging off the ceiling, it’s a proper old-man’s pub with a fire place and comfy seats. The staff are amazing, the pints are cheap and it’s never crowded. They have a snug, which is great if you want a little privacy. It might not be too handy if you’re based in Dublin(even though so might argue that it’s worth heading out to Athboy for a bit of peace and quiet every once in a while), but it’s definitely a great choice if you happen to find yourself in the vicinity. And if you drop by, also try their menu: I can highly recommend the Beef and Guinness Pie with the Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert.
