Angler’s Rest

I struggled on giving this bar a 3 or a 4 star. To be honest the food does not warrant a 4 star but because of the value for money i gave it an extra one.
After a long walk in the nearby Killykeen forest our hunger was growing by the minute! We were staying only a 5 minute drive away in the Slieve Russell Hotel but wanted to try somewhere different.
On entering the pub it is your typical dark bar with stuffed animals on the walls but dont let that put you off. The woman who served us was friendly and took our orders quickly. We both ordered a ham and cheese toastie and a portion of fries to share. The toasted sandwich was standard enough but at € 5 felt it was very good value for money. The chips were delicious! A huge portion of big chunky chips that were piping hot and we devoured them! Two sambos, a huge portion of fries, a glass of heineken and a pot of tea (with a yummy chocolate biscuit!) came to € 17.50 so we were very happy with our choice.

We stopped in at Angler’s Rest while on vacation from CA, USA. The place was real nice and inviting. Everyone was friendly and the filet steak was enormous! Biggest fillet we have seen. Fish and Chips were also very good.

There is nothing like a genuine cozy Irish pub to get a bit of grub at and this pub surely does not let itsself down! I had a few really lovely meals over the last month here and I must say, the service was fantastic.
The staff are just so lovely and genuinely thankful for the business, which you often don’t get with chains these days. If you are in the area, make sure to pop in and sample their steaks, very impressive!

First choice in town. Beautiful inside, meal was great, stuff very friendly! Will come again!
