Dunnes is like the Target of Ireland. Clothes, groceries and probably lawnmowers if you look hard enough. While I can’t speak for the landscaping options, the grocery store is outstanding. Perhaps not the most inexpensive, but there’s a fantastic selection and everything is well stocked. Besides, it seems kind of silly to buy some things here and others down the street at LIDL.

DUNNE’S STORES The long-established Dunne’s Stores in Ballyvolane is always busy and seems to have no bother at all holding off the challenge of next door neighbours Lidl or that of Aldi’s in Mayfield, both of which are usually quiet. This was one of the first really big Dunnes and many thought it would go downhill after the opening of the even bigger one in neighbouring Blackpool. But the Ballyvolane store is well managed, well stocked and has a good staff and is thriving. Just this morning, walked in looking for a favourite spread but it had been removed as the shelving area was under repair. Mentioned it to one of the staff. «No problem,» she said. Though the repair was scheduled to finish in a few minutes when the shelves would be re-stocked, she headed back to the storage area and brought out my spread. Well done. And well done also to the staff that went to the aid of a lady who fainted in the checkout line.
