Picture it, you are in the car… the sun is shining, the breeze flowing gently through what is left of your hair, you drive along, enjoying the fresh country air and the winter/spring scenes that the back roads of Kildare offer… when suddenly, out of nowhere; you remember you are a short, fat balding bloke in a family saloon and a 2year old screaming in the back of the car. Thank Jeebus we have just reached Blessington — there’ll be something here to make him happy again — he’s starving… A bit hungry myself now that I come to think about it. We felt sure the plush new shopping complex in the heart of Blessington would offer some sort of sustenance… but no, the only eatery in sight was pizzamax… well, any port in a storm I guess. I think the phrase«Good Lord» just about covers it… it was grim and grotty and spartanly decorated and encapsulated everything bad about the cheap nasty takeaway. Never the less we persevered — I reckoned chips would be safe enough and it was just about the only thing himself would deffo eat(yes yes I know, not exactly parent of the year stuff but there are times when getting them to eat ANYTHING is a plus). The cost of 2 portions of chips was 4 euro — I was surprised — you couldn’t order 1 portion for that in Dublin. When they arrived there was yet another«Good Lord» moment — the chip portions were GHUGE. really! — I took a picture, enough for 2 hungry adults. And quality? — actually pretty good, I would go further, I would say they were very good. On top of that the guy behind the counter took a shine to us and popped over a bottle of squash for now sated 2year old — really, I was very pleasantly surprised. In short — if the quality of the rest of the food is anything like the chips then this place is worth a visit but be warned it is the least physically appealing eatery I have ever visited, my feelings are over all mixed and confused about this place, so I think a 3⁄5 is a very fair score and shall wait for others to have an opinion!
