Brilliant. Fresh cod and chips in Macari’s is the real deal. Let other chippers pass off whatever else as cod and charge top dollar for it. Fresh cod and chips in Macari’s is the meal to go for every time — I have never been disappointed by their offering.

Ive lived in Celbridge for a while. The odd time that i do get a take away i always went to Macari’s. Their food is tasty and the portions are more than decent, but for the second time i found hair in food that i had ordered. The first time i passed it off as the cleanest of food places this can happen, but last nite took the biscuit as there was a few hairs in my food. That is rank. The take-away no doubt has hygiene certs but to what level they are practiced is questionable. Like i have said at the start of this, Macari’s food is tasty but i do question their hygiene practice, hence i will never buy anything from that take away again, once is acceptable by my standard, but twice and il take my money else where.

Macarris is my favourite chipper in Celbridge. They give huge portions of chips and fish. Once I asked for a smaller portion but the lady just smiled at me and gave me the usual. I don’t think they understand small.

After spending eight years living away from Ireland, I can confirm that my most common food cravings were; Bacon & Cabbage, Irish Dairy Milk, and chipper chips. From Macaris. On the main street of Celbridge, not the other one at the top of Celbridge. These exact specific chipper chips. Why? Cos they’re delish obviously. But, I think there is also an element of the memory of the«treat» of a takeaway on a Friday when you were growing up. Invariably, most families will have their go-to takeaway, the ones the kids would readily give up any home-cooked meal for. And then you stick with that as you get older. Well, now I’m back. Those cravings are no more. Let me tell you, I was not let down. That 2.40 euros spent on a bag of chips is the best 2.40 I’ve ever spent. Of course, as is tradition with takeaways in Ireland, you get about double more than you bargained for. That’s standard. But these chips are perfect. Nice fat pieces of real potato, no pre-packed re-constitiuted stuff here. Potato. Sliced. Fried. Done. They are always piping hot, a good slather of salt and some vinegar and Bob’s your uncle! There are lots of other fine items on the menu — smoked cod is another whopper meal, extremely difficult to eat in one sitting! I also love their taco chips(a new, recent edition!) or garlic chips, or cheese chips — the important ingrediant here is the chips folks. They do also deliver, but that comes from the other Macaris not on the main street. Which we’ve already discussed is not the one I use for lots of completely unsubstantiated reasons.
