Nice room, clean and warm. Didn’t eat in the bar or restaurant. Used the gym/pool, fairly good. Would stay again.

I was here just for a night, and I had my 5 mo. old niece and Mom with me, while there was a massive wedding reception going on downstairs. Room was clean. I like to inspect the sheets and bathroom just as a precaution. The staff was helpful in bringing up ice since there wasn’t an ice machine to be found anywhere. Dinner arrived quickly, huge portions. Definitely needed a bit more salt, but that was an easy fix. Views out front included some lovely lush green rolling hills.

I stayed here along with my husband, son and daughter in law and my granddaughter on Christmas night 2011. On arriving at the hotel, my first impression was that everything was squeaky clean but it wasn’t long before I found out to the contrary. After we put the baby down for the night and not wanting to leave her, my son and I went to reception to enquire about room service food. The receptionist barely looking up from her desk pointed us in the direction of the restaurant and off we went to see what was available to eat. There wasn’t a great selection and whereas we would have preferred a sandwich, we settled for the beef stroganoff. A waiter very kindly took the food to our rooms but by the time he had acquired a large tray, waked across the lobby, went up in the lift and then down the corridor to our rooms, the food was cold and inedible. We had some chocolates in our cases so we decided to make some tea and have the chocolates with it. We took out the kettle and saw that there was limescale on the element and two of the cups had chips out of them. Limescale didn’t bother us too much but we had to take it in turns having our tea because we would not use chipped cups. Now I have a dreadful fear of spiders and before I retire every night, I do a thorough search to ensure that there a no six legged hairy monsters lurking around and waiting to crawl all over me while I am sleeping. I didn’t find any but what I found would have made a luxurious home for them. The section of floor between the wardrobe and the wall was thick with dust and looked as though it had never been cleaned since the hotel was constructed. I then went to the bathroom to wash my hands and there I discovered a long black hair in the sink which I thought was really disgusting. Not to worry, I left my husband to clean the sink while I got into bed. The mattress was very comfortable but the pillows were just a little too hard for my liking. The room was also very warm and there was a lot of noise in the corridors from the other guests so a good night’s sleep was out of the question. Next morning we decided to open the windows to let some air into the room and to have a look at the view but all we could see was a metal roof and a lot of cigarette ends strewn along the ground outside. At this stage I didn’t know whether or not to bother about having breakfast or to just head for home which was only an hour away but as we wanted to chat and spend some more time with my granddaughter, we decided we would have the breakfast. There was quite a good selection but unfortunately a lot of the cereal bowls had not been washed properly so I decided to skip the cereals and have a fry. I had scrambled eggs, bacon and tomatoes. The eggs were nice and fluffy, the tomatoes were also quite nice but the bacon was like strip of dried leather and I couldn’t risk losing a tooth by trying to eat it. Once again, the cups were not up to standard because as my daughter in law was pouring her tea, I noticed the cup she was using had a crack in it. The worse experience during our stay was when a couple of teenagers came in to breakfast wearing their pyjamas and they were closely followed by a young boy wearing only a pair of shorts with no top and nothing on his feet. If this code of dress is unacceptable in some supermarkets I can’t see why it should be acceptable in a four star hotel. It was my second stay in the hotel and when visiting my daughter who lives in Clonmel we often had tea and scones here in the afternoon. After this, I can guarantee I will definitely not be repeating my visits. For € 120 per room per night it is definitely not good value for money.
