The Sheds are a favourite in my family and I’m sure to spend plenty of time there whenever I’m in the country. The staff are friendly, personable and attentive, and the atmosphere is lovely whether it is quiet or crowded. Expect a predominantly older crowd at The Sheds, and what appears to be decent sport coverage on their TVs. It’s a pub in the most general and basic sense — a little wisened, but with a heap of charm. Best enjoyed with a few friends for drinks. Fun fact, though — two marriages in my family started in The Sheds, so it is possibly the most unlikely source of romance in Ireland.

Local bar walkable from the castle hotel. takes card. Decent size crowd on a Sunday night but plenty of seats open.

When I first brought the OH to Clontarf his first question was ‘Where’ll we get a pint?’ The Sheds, obviously, where else? I’ve been a patron, of sorts, for the past 25 years. Being only 25 you might say that makes me a pretty impressive alcoholic. But for the first 18 it was Cidona all the way and out the door at 7:30. Now, The Sheds is where I can meet my friends and family for a pint whenever I’m home. Whatever day of the week you go there’s always a friendly face. A fantastic local! Also, the place offers table service, which you don’t see in many pubs these days.

Second time trying to write a review for this ‘interesting’ pub. This is deceiving from the outside, as in you would think it is an unknown pub. But no. This is well known by the locals, whether through the ‘sheds golf society’ or if they are just regular visitors. It seems to be a bit loud on a sat night, because where thankfully they have no TV down the back of the pub, the cliques of people make up for the noise — talking over each other. This late on an evening means I would not see a menu for food, but for this pub I would presume there is none. Currently on a Sat night it is actually busy, though the People at the next table tell me it is always busy on a Sat night. The Viking Theatre is upstairs, which may add to their numbers… around 10pm, but it is now 12:30am and still going. On a separate note, the Viking Theatre is well worth watching as when it is over, there is plenty of time to catch a drink in a friendly pub and then a bus back into town afterwards.

This is a fantastic local. A good local should have friendly and efficient bar staff. I would say that the Dublin barman is a dying breed but thankfully he is alive and well in the Sheds. The sort of pub where after you have had one or two pints a simple nod or the raise of the finger, is enough to place another order. Its a great spot to watch a game and it is true to sale that it is more male friendly and a place that is more suited towards males rather than females. However it is not anti female in anyway. There are two parts, a lounge and a bar, I prefer the bar but the lounge is equally as nice. All in in all a great down to earth local that does not have any ideas or prices above its station and a place that treats its customers as people first, customers second. Something that is not as common as it should be nowadays.

This is a wonderful little pub that has served me as «the local» for many years. Good, friendly staff and a nice casual atmosphere make for a great Dublin pub. There’s no bar food, but that’s not an issue as there are some food outlets nearby(the chip shop around the corner does close before last orders, though!). Top tip: the bar is split into two, a left and right side. The left side is mostly decorated in wood and attracts the younger customers; the right is tiled and is the abode of the gents who have been going there years upon years! Nonetheless, our crowd of twenty-somethinga have always been made welcome.

I love this bar but as Cathal points out I do feel a little out of place as I am a female! It is just that it really is a local old man’s pub and I think they kind of like it like that. I think they think I will be coming in with all my fancy talk of women’s lib and not doing my man’s ironing or fixing him a nice meal when he comes home from the mines or whatever, when really all I what is a decent cheap pint, in a real bar with no hassle. When I go here I do love it but it takes two or more pints for me to feel comfortable and excepted, but totally worth it!

There are few better places that I can think of for weekend afternoon pints than The Sheds at the end of Vernon Avenue. Decent pints, very reasonably priced, lovely atmosphere and good banter. Very difficult to find fault with the place, although it’s a pain in the arse to get to from where I live. As far as I know, there is no official policy excluding women from going to The Sheds, but the practice is definitely not encouraged. There would be a number of ladies, often of the more mature variety, on a Friday or Saturday evening, but they would be fierce thin on the ground the rest of the time. And you if asked the barman for a mojito, he’d look at you like you four heads. Nice pints, good craic, proper order.

A relaxed atmosphere with cheap pints and friendly staff. Don’t go here looking for Irish food. I only drank Guinness or tea. I didn’t find the bookmaker around the corner. I haven’t been upstairs. I’d watch football here. Local characters made for a decent ambience but there are no families even though a chip shop is nearby. Not many women though.
