Cork Opera House

The opera house has definitely shaped up in the 10+ years since I was last at a show here. Now there’s a great little café/​restaurant in the lobby and even a little sweet shop! The theatre itself is very modern with reasonably comfortable seats and lots of legroom– much appreciated. You can see from just about anywhere in the stalls so I was really pleased with the seating. I also love that when you’re booking through the website, you’re shown an image of the expected view from that seat as you pan over the seating chart. Very useful and I wish this was in every theatre.
The sound/​lighting quality was very good. It was a comedy show so nothing too complicated but I really appreciated the super clear microphone quality.
The staff were all efficient and smiling. I won’t hesitate to book another show here.

A Opera House é ponto de referência na cidade. Quando estive aqui para ver Hairspray, me encantei com o tamanho e disposição da sala — longe de ser monumental, o espaço é pequeno e aconchegante, difícil saber de há um lugar realmente «ruim» aqui, já que as todas as fileiras podem ser consideradas relativamente perto do palco.
Durante os intervalos você pode desfrutar de uma deliciosa xícara de café (o espresso é bem gostoso!) ou de um sorvete na loja dentro do lugar. Bom, você também pode ir lá só para degustar mesmo, o café é aberto para quem quiser. :)
O único ponto negativo, eu diria, é o volume do sim durante a apresentação. Difícil dizer se foi apenas nessa ocasião ou se o volume é determinado pela casa, mas senti falta do volume de espetáculo. Claro, isso é bastante questionável e há quem prefira um som mais, digamos, modesto.

Prime location, fantastic venue.
I’ve been to plenty of events at the opera house over the years and I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed myself, great acoustics for a gig or musical.
The perfect size of the venue creates a wonderful intimate atmosphere for all guests to enjoy.
There is a café and bar at the venue. The café serves coffees/​teas/​treats and the bar usually opens about a half an hour before the performer is due on stage. Friendly staff.

OPERA HOUSE 22.10.10
The Cork Opera House was once the hopping headquarters of the Cork Jazz Festival but, after an enforced summer closure, found itself in opposition to the ubiquitous jazz this weekend. And more or less direct opposition at that ss the new management staged a mini-​series of one night music events.
Rumours of Fleetwood Mac were there on Friday night and the audience was definitely hit by the Guinness powered jazz fest. For all that, neither the band nor the crowd that did come in were in any way fazed and a terrific night of entertainment
