This fairy tale castle looks a lot older than it is. It was built around 1870 by a wealthy landowner as a kind of holiday getaway. It has wonderful gardens that stretch to 13 acres and contain trees and plants from all over the world. There are cosy tea rooms open all year for a snack. For a proper meal you need to wait for the summer season when there is a restaurant open at the Visitor centre in Glenveagh National Park which surrounds the castle.

Part of Glenveagh National Park, Ireland’s largest. Has the largest herd of red deer in the country and a special habitat for golden eagles. More or less in the middle of nowhere, fantastic place to clear the head!
