O’Connells is a great spot. I was ther at Christmas with my entire family. It’s a perfect place for a family dinner as the menu is big and will cater for all types. The restaurant is lovely and spacious, with nice white table clothes, good glassware and quality cutlery. The food is delicious. It’s nothing modern and interesting, so I wouldn’t eat there if ur not into the classics. I personally love classic bistro style food, especially when it’s cooked well, packed full of flavour and seasoned to perfection. Desserts were yum too. The staff are fab. Very friendly and attentive. We all agreed we would b back, as everyone was extremely satisfied with their meal and experience. Keep it up O’Connells. I like what Ya Doin :)

I was sorely disappointed in my dinner here the other night. The décor is like a vintage pub but I think most of the servers are Italian.(Which is NOT a bad thing) but just an observation. We were late for our reservation so we were booted off the table at 8 but that’s my fault as the restaurant staff were very good at informing me that they had to have the table back by 8. They even gave us Irish coffee to say sorry which was a really nice touch. Service was very good in that aspect. The bottle of wine we got was very good but for the price it wasn’t anything spectacular. Onto the food: we got canapés of smoked trout and a beet salad to start which were good but I wasn’t that impressed. Also they had a bunch pre made and you can see them sitting at the bar area. I got the fish starter which was fresh and tasty. The salmon was lovely and the smoked trout was great as the smoked flavor wasn’t too over powering. I was quite underwhelmed wth my main of steak however. I asked for it rare but it was more blue than Id like but it is hard to differentiate between rare and blue sometimes. The salsa verde was no so fresh and I didn’t like an herb that was in there… It was very vinegary and didn’t complement my meat at all. The chips it came with wre so greasy and were little sticks that weren’t that cripsy… I don’t know how they were soggy after being cute so thinly and fried… For dessert I got ice cream which was delish and locally sourced which I love. Def get the rum n raisin! All in all I wouldn’t go back. It seems a family friendly place to dine though.

Thanksgiving lunch ftw. I made the mistake of opening with a delicious risotto starter, which interfered with dessert later, but the meal was amazing. Turkey and gravy, along with buttered veg and bread sauce, which was new to me. The dessert was a buffet, but unlike your usual buffet of mediocrity, every dessert was a work of art. I had the chocolate mousse and a trifle, best trifle I’ve ever had bar none. Damn that delicious risotto! I’m sure I could have taken a sliver of the pecan and pumpkin pies as well otherwise. Total food coma afterwards. Well, it WAS Thanksgiving –I wanted to do it right.

We were in a large tour group that visited for dinner. We all thought the good was excellent! It is hard to serve a large group with excellent service and quality food. We were all very pleased.

My husband and I went here while we were on our honeymoon and it was so great. It had a really nice interior and atmosphere with candlelight. The food was hearty and very tasty. They also heard us say we were on honeymoon and brought us a dessert that said congratulations. They were very nice overall and it felt very homey the whole time we were there. I wish I could go back more often to get consistently good food in a comforting environment.

Quite disappointing. Food was average and service quite bad. They seem to have lots of staff but only asked if we wanted wine after starters had arrived even though we asked for drinks menu. The place is very dated too and seems to cater to an older crowd.

I was brought here for a business lunch by a regular. It was obvious by the warm greeting from the management and wait staff, though they were equally warm and friendly to me. It was a wonderful lunch experience, starting with the great selection of items in the lunch menu. First I had the french onion soup. I was told to wait a bit as it was really really really really hot. Of course I didn’t listen and scalded my tongue. Once it cooled down, it was delicious. Though filling and I almost regretted having a starter. Next, I had the plaice, which came with veg and hand cut chips. The best part of this was the home made tartar sauce. Oh my goodness, it was wonderful. The fish was also quite delicious. My friend had the roast beef, sliced at the table. It looked wonderful and was served with scalloped potatoes and vegetables. For dessert, we shared an off the menu pavlova and coffee Very nice place for a leisurely lunch, business meeting, perhaps even a large group.

Pretty expensive for what is on offer when compared to other restaurants in the same price-range in D4. There was a mistake with our reservation, the food was very average except dessert and service seemed to be slightly disorganised despite a large amount of staff being on duty.

Got enticed in by the Badger and Dodo coffee sign as they make great coffees. The staff were super friendly. The coffee was great. No extra charge for soya milk. They even threw in 2 free fresh scones, still warm! I’ll be back. Thanks a million.

We stopped here our first night in town because it was the only place open and we really did not like what we ordered.

Definitely recommend. Delicious traditional Irish food. I had steak which was perfectly cooked. My sister had lamb falling off the bone and my mother had fantastic hake. The majority of the food was suitable for Coeliacs which were marked on the menu & they were happy to discuss altering dishes where possible. It was nice to talk to knowledgeable staff. Staff were really friendly and professional. They obviously have repeat custom as they appeared to know different customers by name. When you come in at first it still looks a bit close to the old pub, however once you are seated & start checking the menu you soon forget. In general the atmosphere is friendly and casual. This is due to the excellent staff who are attentive but leave plenty of time for diners to enjoy the food. The Early Bird menus applies all evening on Wednesdays so are really good value. We topped off our meal with some french coffees. A bit naughty for a Wednesday but it felt right last night!

We go here once every second week, been here for lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. The owners Tom and his wife are very nice and the restaurant is always full with a good atmosphere. The waiters are efficient, only had one bad incident in the many times I’ve been here, when my food was sitting beside the kitchen for 5 – 6 minutes! For Sunday lunch there is a buffet for starters and deserts. Many restaurants I’ve been to who have this concept fail to really master it, but in O’Connells it is well set up and has a good mix of dishes. The majority of the ingredients are sourced from organic farmers in Ireland and Tom is always on hand to give exact details of where a product came from and will always offer to give you sell you anything you wish. The beef is absolutely amazing! It is cut right beside you exactly how you like it and It is up there with the best flavor I have experienced from beef! The texture is superb. The deserts are as good as deserts get — you can have whatever and as much as you want from the buffet! The coffee is decent. The whole experience in O’Connells is great, it may be too noisy for some, but the food makes up for this! Great spot for Sunday Lunch!
