We both were in the mood for thai food so decided to give Diep le Shaker a try, via Deliveroo. We had two orders of chicken and prawn pad Thai and one order of duck larb ped. The food arrived quick and hot and looked tasty enough. We started with the larb ped and with the first bite, I regretted our order… So much red onion! I suffered through one lettuce wrap before moving on to the pad thai. Sadly, the pad thai offered no redemption. The flavours were bland and the chicken was super chewy. No better than what you get from Siam Thai. Next time I will stick with Opium!

While it was definitely not casual as the Unilocal description states it was very lovely. Being that it was hear Christmas many were having been get togethers and such. We got there about 5:30 with no reservation and we were extremely lucky to get a table. Being that the storefront is an alleyway we didn’t expect to see the crowd but it was definitely hopping. I ordered the lemon tree drink to start and it was delicious. The meal was great but because it was so busy service was a little lacking. We had other waitstaff helping us more than our own waitress. But we were attended to. It was a must while in Dublin so we had to make the stop and it didn’t disappoint. I just wish we were dressed nicer than jeans and had a reservation. But again the hosts made it work and were very nice. Best Thai food in Dublin.

Stopped by Diep Le Shaker two months ago because the mood for Thai struck. As far as Thai restaurants go, this was a lot trendier and more cosmopolitan than I would have expected it to be, and that’s not necessarily a negative. The restaurant had a very cool vibe, which would justify it’s slightly inflated prices. I read that the restaurant was known for it’s creative cocktail menu and this was certainly valid; while I had a few the one that really stood out was the Gaelic Storm. I don’t particularly enjoy cocktails with expensive Scotch, but the Laphroiag presence made the drink special. Otherwise, two noodle mains were delicious, the appetizers fit your standard fare. I truly wish I remember the dessert because it was phenomenal. I know this because that was one of my notes for the review, but I didn’t think to write the name of the dessert down after the meal. Like I mentioned, that Gaelic Storm was something else. Service was flawless.

There was a big gang of us for dinner, we ordered from the à-la-carte menu. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The cocktails were yummy!

The best scollops I have ever had ! I still have dreams about them — will have to go back soon! I’m not the biggest fan of Asian food but this place is amazing. For main I had curry with prawns — very good. But the starter … The scollops … This taste will stay with me forever — delicious.

The food was delicious and main dish with a shared rice makes for a perfect ladies meal. The service was very good.

Was here recently for a work do and found the whole experience to be a bit of a mixed bag. Really loved the décor and interior of the restaurant and the atmosphere was buzzing, the service was also excellent with drinks being topped up promptly(a little too promptly in my case perhaps haha!) Following in the positive vein of the overall ambiance was the starter of pork skewers in a sticky soy and lemongrass marinade and dipping sauce — it was mighty tasty and left me smacking my lips in anticipation for the main course, which, unfortunately turned out to be a bit of a let-down. It was billed as stir-fried beef with chili and basil but the over-riding taste was of black-licorice, it must have been laced with fennel — of which I am not a fan a’tall a’tall! It was also alarmingly spicy — the kind that builds up in your mouth as you eat and leaves with you with steam pouring from your ears soon enough! Needless to say I didn’t really enjoy the main and filled up on the fried rice, which was really good but it’s basically fried carbs so no surprises there! From the sublime starter to the more than mediocre main, the dessert was somewhere in the middle of the two — grand, but nothing to write home about. I went for the chili-chocolate brownie, which was dense and rich yet I couldn’t detect any chili? Perhaps because the tongue had been burnt off me from the main course? Thankfully it was served with a big scoop of creamy vanilla ice-cream which cooled down my singed mouth nicely. All-in-all I would venture back but I’d hope that the meal would be more consistent across each course next time!

This thai restaurant is tucked away off a lane, off baggot street, so you really have to know it is there, otherwise no way you would find it. Looking at the menu, it is not exactly cheap. But me, being the queen of vouchers, and my friend spent just 45 euro on 2 courses and a glass of housewine. And we could pick from the full a la carte. No limited menu here, yay! We decided to start with a cocktail as their cocktail menu looked impressive. I had one with cucumber and fizzy applejuice. nice and refreshing. We opted to share the duck pancakes. Nomnomnom— but nothing too special and mind blowing. For my main I picked the steamed seabass, which I regretted afterwards. It was just way too sour, the sauce was so sour, it felt like sucking on a lime. brrr, not good. Although the fish was beautifully cooked, I could not really enjoy it. My friend’s grilled seabass went down better. Would we pay 27 euro for this(price on the a la carte) —most definitely NOT. We shared a bottle of prosecco(35 euro) during our meal, and we were not rushed in any way(in fact the main took about an hour to come out) I think I would come back here for an early bird, but not pay for the full shabang. Although, beside us was a group of ladies enjoying a 5 course party menu(I think priced at 55 euro) and I have to admit I gave them a few envious glares as everything they got looked yummie and plentiful!)

That was unexpected! Went to this place on a team night out. On summary: starters and mains were absolutely amazing, wine and cocktails also. We had all kinds of starters to share, worth a try would be the spicy beef! For main I had steamed seabass with veggies, exploiting for your taste buttons — man, I am so gonna have that one again! They also have live music which makes it a bit different to loads of other places too. I gave 4 stars because the staff wasn’t sooo efficient and caring as I would like too, but overall it was an amazing experience.

I reviewed Diep At Home recently and wasn’t a fan so when I visited Diep Le Shaker on a work night out I was hoping for a better experience and I got it. The food is of a much higher standard here. I got the chicken panang(same as I ordered from the At Home service) and it was delicious. The sauce was thick, instead of watery and it was a very generous portion. The service is also really good, our waitress really looked after us. Now if only I could get the same experience from the takeaway branch!

I had a wonderful meal here on Saturday night thanks to Unilocal and the voucher I won during Dine in Dublin week. This was my first visit to Diep Le Shaker. It’s one of those restaurants that I always figured I’d get round to trying without actually ever making any plans to. I had heard great things(though not from reading the Unilocal reviews!) over the years but perhaps was a little hesitant to go as I don’t rate their take away in Ranelagh at all. Anyway, on to the meal. It was not the most authentic Thai meal I have ever eaten… cue«you see, I’ve beeeeen to Thaaaailand» comment… but it was really delicious. The dishes we chose I would consider to be more along the lines of «Thai inspired» though there are plenty of staples on the menu. I had a crabmeat starter with cucumber, shallots, chilli, mint and coriander with a lemongrass chilli dressing. It was delicious and refreshing. Himself had char grilled king scallops with chilli, coriander, ginger and a peanut nahm jim. The peanut flavour with the scallop was really unusual but really worked. I had the braised lamb massaman for my main which was so so tasty. The lamb was incredibly tender. I gobbled it down. The star of the whole meal was my boyfriend’s lamb rump main– marinated in herbs, char grilled pink with morning glory and chilli dip. I am still thinking about it. It was one of the most delicious things I’ve eaten in a long time. I would happily go back to just eat that and leave… once a week… at least. The dessert menu is short and basic. All I could manage was a trio of sorbets which were very nice. He had the daily special which was a passionfruit panna cotta(definitely not traditional!) and it was light and yummy. I guess the dessert menu is quite a let down compared to the rest of it but it’s the least important part of a menu for me so it wasn’t really a problem. All in all, it was a fantastic meal. I will definitely return. Thanks for my voucher, Unilocal

I keep going back expecting a different result. Close your eyes, think Thai. Diep will deliver, nothing more, nothing less, average Thai.

Had not eaten here for nearly two years, due to a poor overpriced meal. It was not my choice, but a lunch was booked so I attended. Too start I had some Karee Gai as a starter, it was fine, quite average. Followed by Beef Rendang which again was fine, a little bland, and certainly not worth € 13 for a small portion. Therein lies my problem with Diep Le Shaker, there is better Thai food available at better prices in Dublin. Dont make do with mediocre, seek better food at better value.

My review is probably harsh because I have eaten some amazing Thai /Asian food in my life. We went here for dinner and the starter of satay was tasteless and the peanut sauce lacked the texture or the punch I have come to expect over time. The beef rendang was not what I expected it to look like(usually dry! flavorful, spicy and a bit oily). The mains were spicy but lacked flavours. Once again the place lacked any authentic Thai sesserts like black sticky rice and so on. All in all ok but would not rush back here. Maybe it’s a great experience for some but, or me live music belongs in a pub not a restaurant. I go to restaurants to enjoy the food and company not listen to live music :-)

I’ve been to Diep Le Shaker for some Christmas parties and also for a romantic meal. It’s really great. I think it’s best for a group because then you can get a set menu with lots of options, sit at a bit table that spins in the middle, so everyone can try all of the dishes and there’s oodles of food to go around. It’s delicious. Of course it’s also nice for a couple but I think it’s a bit bright and a bit overpriced when it’s the full deal. Especially now that there’s Diep Noodle Bar and Diep at Home which does very similar food at much lower prices. All the same, it’s the experience that you pay for and there’s real napkins and heavy cutlery here, not to mention the very attentive service and a bottomless pit of lovely spicey prawn crackers. It’s still delicious but I’d just save it for a treat or when the office is paying!

So back a few months of ago, a few friends and I decided we weren’t broke enough and said we’d check out one of Dublin’s pricier establishments. The meal that day became known as the anti-recession lunch. Diep is a bit off the beaten track on Pembroke lane, i don’t think it does the place any harm though as it does a brisk business. The day we were there was busy. We started in the bar with some Prosecco, the first of many. The small bar area is great in itself if your waiting for your table or just chilling. The dining room is very well presented and classy and it is a nice place to dress up for if you want. As the prosecco flowed, we were comped a bottle or three, the meal just got better. We chose from the a la carte lunch menu. With two platters to start, their idea if your in a group or just want to try everything. For mains I had the delicious Nasi Goreng, I’ve tasted the sweet and sour chicken and its really good too. I don’t remember the desert but I’ve had the Ice creams in another Diep and are worth a look. Lunch runs from 12 – 2 on most weekdays, we were still there at 5 and the staff were happy for us to stay on, although i’m sure the fact that one of my friends knew the manager there helped. The staff were more then happy to call us a taxi as well. Great for a family occasion or a milestone birthday. Just watch out for the prosecco, its easy to knock back.

If you love thai food then this is the place to go to, I went to this restaurant with my parents. The décor isn’t really appealing but the service and food is excellent! I ordered the thai green curry and it was the best thai curry I have ever tasted. I tried few other dishes in the menu and it was to die for. You can actually taste the authentic thai spices and the freshnesss of the veg, meat, fish and rice. I have visted many other thai restaurants but ‘Diep Le Shaker’ is the best by far. If you are after delicious food for a reasonable price, with excellent service, then this is the place to go.
