I usually love a free bit of entertainment, and love it in Meeting House Square even more. This, however, was a disappointment. Having spent a good part of my adolescence hanging around Dún Laoghaire, I really don’t understand why a silent film accompanied by live jazz is in any way indicative of its supposed charm. Dún Laoghaire isn’t a jazz kind of place by any means, and the film itself presented the town to be some kind of idyllic hideaway for pensioners. It’s not that either. It would have been better represented by shots of people on their way to paps. Accompanied by sketchy dance music. Because that’s Dún Laoghaire. This pretentious, pseudo posh malarkey is nothing more than a gimmick. And a poor one at that.
