As a social regular drinker I love Park Gate st for all it’s pubs, this one has had a minor upgrade of sorts since my last visit and while the bar staff won’t win any awards for friendliness the pint of Cider is still under a fiver and the toilets are adequate, the pint itself was lovely and the locals def add to an atmosphere. I visited during lunchtime.

Generally I give Eamonn Rea’s a wide berth — with three other pubs along Parkgate street, plus the ultra plush bar at The Ashling Hotel just a few minutes walk away, there’s little draw for me here. For visitors eschewing the broad appeal of Nancy Hands, the Victorian refinement of Ryan’s or Liam Walsh at the top of the block, Eamonn Rea’s offers all the toasted cheese and pints you can consume. Like most locals, this place has developed a following — possibly as a result of an eclectic music selection(Electronica nights, anyone?). Some regulars can border on the obnoxious while hanging out front for a smoke between pints, if that’s not a deal breaker than this is your pub.

A lovely little local that never seems to be too crowded. We stopped in for a few pints and enjoyed our experience. The owner/manager even had my wife go behind the bar to pull a few pints. If you want to stay away from tourists, and meet a few locals, I can’t think of a better place.
