Amazing little shop. It’s so much more than a butchers’ — easily the best fresh fruit, veg and meat produce in the Rialto(and probably Dublin 8 in general). Aside from the quality of food on offer, the service and general atmosphere of this place is very friendly, with a mix of regular customers and people traveling from far afield for gourmet items. Derek has a large array of pre-marinated, pre-stuffed and pre-prepped meal trays that are ready to pop into the oven — ideal for when you want a nice dinner but haven’t thought through what exactly you want /what ingredients you need. The meat is always great value, though other items can be expensive. Unless you’re a total foodie(with a flexible wallet), I’d recommend you by your basics elsewhere but come to the Ennis Butchers for all your meat, veg, herbs and so on.

Hell to the yes. Ennis Butcher is our local — and what a freekin godsend. I didn’t used to eat meat but am now cohabitating with a carnivore and decided that, since Ennis sells locally sourced meat and meets my ethical standards I would start making weekly visits. I still never know how much I need or the difference between steak cuts, but the staff are helpful, prices are pretty standard and the meat is always perfection. I occasionally treat myself to the other high-end foodie stuff they stock, including amazing bagels made in the US, and local produce — which is twice the price of tesco and twice as good. This weekend we had peaches from Ennis Butchers and they were amazing, perfectly ripe! Get yourself to this Butcher, right now.

Hanging from the after-effects of a brilliant night out, I was pressed into service as a suffering passenger on a sunny Saturday morning car ride to gather the elements of the perfect post-party brekkie. While I could grumble about the rocking motion of the car, I couldn’t say a bad word about the good things going on in Ennis Butchers. Organic, well stocked and staffed by real pros, this is the place for perfectly smoked rashers, tasty puddings and sausages that could save lives. And I’m just getting started… When Ennis Butchers say they’re passionate about food, they aren’t kidding. Beyond that long case of gorgeous meats and fish, shoppers can pick the perfect wines, fresh breads, condiments, organic vege and milk plus other edible accoutrement to a seriously delish dinner(or in my case, a breakfast fit for a party queen). While some of the more sumptuous options are pricey, as to be expected with the dry aged or freshly caught, the every day breakfast goods ring up for far less than commercial goods — and are so much tastier.

For a butcher to survive in today’s economic climate, they’d want to be damn good. In short, Ennis Butcher’s are. Really great quality stuff, from straightforward cuts of meat, to more elaborate pre-made dishes to feed the entire family. I’d recommend going maybe once a week or fortnight and stocking up. There are great deals and if you’re getting a big order, there might be a bit of wiggle room on the price. Grab a few of the sausages, perfect for a lazy Sunday morning, and cheaper than your average breakfast roll.
