I love this art work along the Liffey. Beautifully done and depicts a sad part of Irish history with great style and respect. A walk along the Liffey from the city to Docklands is a must for any visitor to Dublin :-)

Walking along the North Wall Quay, you’ll come across some haunting statues of the victims of the Famine. The statues made out of iron commemorate those who died and emigrated because of their potato blight of the 1840s. Together, the six figures and dog are stunning to look at. The height of the people are exaggerated to highlight their suffering. Because they appear to be six feet and longer, their bodies are long, lean and emaciated. Some of the figures look like they’re screaming in agony of starvation and one lone man in the back carries the body of small dead child. Interestingly enough, the artist included a skeletal dog that’s growling in anger. The statues make quite an impression. Anyone visiting Dublin should take the walk to North Quay to see this work of art for themselves.
