The primary advantages of the gym at DIT Kevin St for me were it’s proximity and it;s cost. Although I was based at Aungier St, Kevin St is just over the road, so it was no bother to pop over there once classes had finished for an hour or so. And as to the cost — Kevin St was just under a hundred a year, whereas Westwood in Clontarf is around € 700 per annum(and that’s the student; God knows what everyone else has to pay). It’s true that Kevin St doesn’t have as much in the way of facilities as other gyms(I mean, they have a bench and no barbell. What’s the point in that?), but they have a decent range of machines and it’s extremely rare that there’s a queue for the treadmills. Plus, Kevin St has a pool; quite a small pool, true, but one which is often fairly empty. The only bad thing about the Fit2Go gym is that the powers that be at DIT have cut back the hours of the trainers, so the opening hours of the gym have been cut back as well. By far the cheapest gym around, if you’re in the position to avail of it.
