I had a gift voucher for a massage, nail treatment and full use of the spa so naturally I arrived a good bit ahead of my appointment to use the facilities(pool, sauna, steam room). When I got there, there was no one at reception and one therapist was doing a client’s nails. She asked me what I wanted. In those words. I was immediately put off. When I explained that I had an appointment but was here to use the facilities first, she gave me a look that was beyond annoyed. Even her client raised an eyebrow at her attitude and then gave me a little smile. I was then brought to a small changing room that wasn’t set up and the therapist started looking for robes and slippers. She then explained that I need to go to the gym area, get a code to get into the lady’s changing rooms that belong to the gym but there are no locks so best to leave everything in the spa. I asked her about the shower situation and was told I could only shower in the gym. Right, okay then. Determined to not let that take away from my afternoon of bliss(in my mind that’s what I had coming), I changed, walked over to the gym, got the code from reception, went to the lady’s changing rooms, left towels, robe etc in the unlocked locker and enjoyed the facilities. It was fairly cleaned and not too busy so hey, things were starting to look up. When it was time for my massage appointment, I showered, dried my hair and went back to the spa. On my way back, another therapist walks towards me with another client, explaining her where everything is and just making the usual chit chat. That’s what I would’ve expected also. back in the spa, the first therapist, who never introduced herself, held a door open for me, no words so I go in. There’s a massage table, she doesn’t say a word and leaves so I lie down and wait. She eventually comes back, still doesn’t say a word, doesn’t ask me whether I’m comfortable, have any aches or pains or areas that need attention or avoidance and just puts some non-descriptive oil on my back. She works away while I’m totally uncomfortable, the head rest isn’t cushioned, my face gets squashed and I’m thinking of leaving. She’s finally finished and mumbles something, I can’t understand her. I get dressed and hope that she really is the nail specialist. I pick an Essie polish out of about 30 different Essie and OPI products, some of the OPI already empty but still on display. I’m not being asked what shape I want my nails done, she just works away. A second therapist comes in and takes a seat at reception next to the nail bar. She starts chatting to the girl who does my nails, asking her over and over again how to put in voucher bookings into the system. They talk as if i wasnt there and I badly wanna get out of there by then. There aren’t even any proper magazines I could’ve flicked through so I kinda had to listen to them and their booking system/voucher code problems. Me nerves! Finally, a top coat is applied to my nails and I ask whether it is quick-dry so I can get the hell out of there. The girl just sniggers at me and says: no, you have to wait. WTF? This is honestly one of the worst experiences in terms of poor customer service in a spa/beauty environment that I have ever had. The massage as such was ok. If I was pretending I’m in some foreign country and can’t communicate cause I don’t speak the local language it would’ve been ok I guess. But I wasnt in Bali or Cambodia, I was in a spa in a hotel in Dublin. One that I will never ever return to.
