Friends of St Luke’s Hospital Appeal HQ

State of the art facilities. Hypermodern. Well organized. Clean. Visited a friend there yesterday. Amazed by rude sarcastic staff. Air of jaded indifference. Sense of staff enduring the day in the hope of just getting out of there. Saddening attitude that has to negatively impact patients who I know are challenging. I worked in terminal wards myself and worked with people who had joy in them. I was told by one staff member they ‘didn’t want to know’ loudly and in public when my friend (who was the patient!) mentioned a recent bereavement I had experienced. (I didn’t bring up the subject, but my friend did). Another time my friend and I got misdirected and I joked about our bad orientation, I got a «Yeah, right, whatever.» Nasty tone. Saddening, unprofessional, and a bad sign in the place.
