I was slightly disappointed with everything really. I expected more, in particular the service Got the braised pork cheek, was OK lentils where bit hard Steak for mains, has better nothing special Service was very lack lustre, there was something missing. Or was it just an off day. Who knows but I wouldn’t rush back given the amount of too restaurants to choose from

Had a fantastic dinner at Hugo’s. Great service, knowledgable staff about Gluten free options and great wine list. The entire experience was lovely. I highly recommend the chocolate mousse dessert!

Had a great meal on a quiet Sunday night. Mains(chicken, pork tenderloin) were delicious, the ham hock terrine starter was tasty, the tempura cauliflower a bit bland. The desserts(rhubarb crumble and chocolate mousse) were perfect. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. Note — it doesn’t say so in the window but the set dinner menu is really a pre-theatre menu and is only available until 19:00.

The food here is really good! We had a reservation for 4, arrived a few minutes early and they were ready for us. One of the walls is entirely wine bottles, so of course you have to try some. The butternut squash soup was amazing, not too thick, very light. Overall service was good, but we had to ask for water refills several times. The food also took about 25 minutes so don’t go here if you are in a rush!

Marvelous comfy restaurant. They actually take your coat and hang it up. Great steak, courteous service. A peppercorn sauce to die for. Will be back for sure. Terrific early bird special. Nice wines.

After The Exchequer cancelled my reservation(see my Unilocal review) at the last minute I was very fortunate to be able to get a reservation her at Hugos. I was truly fortunate even before dinning because of the great customer service from Gina(and Ursula) being responsive on email and accommodating our time change. The fortunate extended into a wonderful and classy restaurant and a series from culinary delights from starter to desert. Dressed crab starter was very fresh and tasty. Mushroom taglioni was generous portion with wonderful flavors(one critique is that it seemed that there was nuts included which wasn’t listed in the ingredients on the menu). The dark chocolate mousse was decadent. All in all one of the best culinary experiences I have had in Ireland. Also should mention that Hugos has wonderful wine selection(but no beer or mixed drinks). Service was very attentive without being intrusive. Definitely plan to eat here again.

This place is a little gem. I can’t say if it’s real french food but, in general, I’ve really enjoyed the experience. I was lucky to find a place, without booking, during valentine’s day(early bird) and everything was amazing. If you want to organize a lovely dinner for you loved you, go to this place and book the table near the window, there’s a lovely view of the street. Mashed potatoes were amazing, the best I had in Dublin!

In one week in Dublin, we chose to eat at Hugo’s THREE times. The atmosphere was comfortable. The staff was friendly. The service was perfect. After a big Irish breakfast and substantial hot lunch, the cheese plate and a glass of wine were perfect. It is worth looming for this great little restaurant. I asked if it was a French restaurant or an Irish restaurant and they said yes.

Ordered pre theater mushroom soup, must admit that was a 3 – 4 even. Then I had chicken my wife had steak. My chicken was a 1 – 2 tender but no flavor and the whipped potatoes were bland. My wife’s steak, only a ¼ inch thick was tough, hard to do. Dessert was okay. The real killer was service. It was inattentive at best. Would not return.

We’d give this 4.5 if we could. Lovely people running the restaurant. Good service and yummy food. We also loved the atmosphere. We will be back the next time we visit Dublin.

I was really impressed with their early bird. It’s not the cheapest going at € 27ish for 3 courses plus € 3 extra if you choose the ribeye steak which 3 out of 4 of us did. Though, no complaints on its taste or quality… Mouth watering and cooked to perfection! The décor is lovely and inviting. Lots of plush sofa style furnishings and an amazing floor to ceiling wine cabinet at the back. The goats cheese salad was small and not great and missing its candied walnuts which was a pity. The main and the gluten free brownie for dessert was excellent. If you’re around Stephen’s Green it’s worth a try for sure.

Had a great experience in Hugos recently. The charcuterie board for 2 to start is AMAZING. Best starter ever. Had a lovely steak and a bottle of prosecco. Would go back any time.

Myself and four colleagues went for lunch today, greeting was very pleasant, we were seated, waiter very friendly, took our orders, delivered them and was not seen again until the bill. Food was so-so, the starter salads were basically giant bowls of rocket, barely any fish or other veg present, mains were sparse — just so so. No sign of our waiter friend, we eventually collared him for the bill, he arrived with it, it came to € 90, we had a € 100 voucher(we were going to add more to it on top for the tip) and we never saw him again so a) didn’t bring us back change or balance of gift card and b) no explanation so we left.

Never dine out at Christmas, it’s the golden rule… even the most competent and consistently good restaurants in the city tend to let standards slip in place of volumes of trade and a bigger cash balance at the end of the season… this has been my rule of thumb for years and for the most part it has been borne out time and time again, sometimes however, you have no choice but to brave the slings and arrows Which is exactly what we did last night, we brought clients to Hugos and my hopes were not set high, though I have heard good things about the place… I could go on like this — setting the scene yada yada yada but the bottom line is that it was great, the service was top notch, the food was brilliant, the wine, superb. Even the cheese plate, which looked very basic and unexciting was incredibly good. If this is what Hugos is like during the busy season when everyone is under huge pressure and customer turn over must be a nightmare, I can’t wait to go again when they are relaxed!

Great atmosphere and service. Ok wine list and food is alright too. Great place for a simple night out. If you are expecting sophisticated food… then don’t. This is a great place for a nice feed at a premium. I would go back but won’t be rushing back :-)

We headed in here last night to get some soakage on before a Christmas party and it was a good decision. The restaurant itself is beautifully kitted out and super comfortable, our only complaint was that it was a little too warm. We were here for the pre-theatre and it was great value for the quality of food that we received. There were three of us dining and between us we had the duck, chicken curry, haddock and the game pie and we were all well impressed — sure we were only short of picking up the plates and licking them! The wine was delicious and we were given a ten percent discount on the meal for paying in cash! We found the owner/manager(?) really welcoming and the waiting staff were utterly professional and attentive. I’ll definitely be back and would recommend this place to anyone!

Came to Hugo’s for brunch. Instantly heard a horribly cheesy jazz cover of a Pink Floyd song being played by a band. Not a great start. The décor is sorta swanky but is a little over the top. I ordered Eggs Benedict and the one thing that should be made right, the hollendaise sauce, had split and tasted like it wasn’t even there. Not kick ass at all. The kicker for me was that when we asked for still water they gave us a fancy blue glass bottle with their logo on it but it was obvious it was just refilled from the tap. We were still charged 4.40 for the bottle, which was only 10 cent cheaper than 2 americanos. I don’t really give a crap about cultural norms and whether you say ‘still’ or ‘tap’. If I order water that’s not the fizzy crap, I don’t want to be charged for it. Period.

I have to say I am basing this review on one visit but I was very impressed. It was during the dine in Dublin week and I called in at the last minute to reserve for Friday evening. I got possibly the worst seat just inside the door, but in spite of this, it was very comfortable and cosy. Service was excellent, food was great and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Of course, because of the dine in Dublin menu it was a cheaper menu than you would normally get so I can’t really comment on the prices but from what I saw it is at the pricier end of the market. Overall, I was really impressed and would recommend it for a special meal out.

Great Bar, and wine bar. Food was below average and I wouldnt recommend it. It was a great location and I liked the atmosphere but can be quite crowded and very dark. Good selection but my reocmmendation is to eat somewhere else and drink here.
