Okay where do I begin. The Acheson family have lived and worked on Errigal road in Drimnagh for what seems like forever. From JP Acheson, who when asked by one sign writer whether he wanted the name over the door to read ‘Acheson & Sons’ replied«NO, just Acheson full stop thanks very much!» to his son Michael who wears his love of Man Utd on his sleeve and always up for the banter win lose or draw. The place is now owned and run by John Acheson grandson of the late-JP. John has maintained the shop’s place as an important presence within the community by sponsoring various sports teams and events. As any small retailer knows these days its important to balance stocking the old reliable with offering something different to tempt the adventurous shopper. The off-licence carries a super selection of wines from all over the World and John is always on hand to give advice. As for beer I’m abit weird and love to buy a selection with weird sounding names like Hob goblin or Old Speckled Hen and giving them a go. This place never fails to surprise me. I love this place and feel that although times are tough there’s something to be said about spending money in local shops run by local people who contribute to the local community.
