3.5 stars? yeah. It took me forever to remember the name of this place. The bar is Karma, but what I didn’t know is that it’s part of the Handel’s Hotel. Anyway, there is only one real reason I came here, but it’s a good reason I’d say. Ready? Wait for it… cheapest pint in Dublin. Now, I can’t quite recall the going rate for a pint of Guinness in Dublin(whatever it was, it was a bit steep), but Karma’s price is a good 10% or so off the second cheapest pint I’d found in the city – perhaps enough savings to buy an extra after a night(or two) of drinking. The interior is pretty nice. It’s got an Asian theme going on. I enjoyed it because, at least when I went, it was always quiet enough that I could have a good conversation with my friends. On that note, whenever I went, it was always pretty empty, and it’s not like I went in the middle of the day or anything. You’ll either really like this or hate it depending on the type of atmosphere you’re looking for. Still, I don’t see any harm in giving Karma a shot. At least you’ll save a bit on your pint of Guinness!

Karma is the late night lounge of the Handel’s Hotel on Fishamble Street near Temple Bar. As it is down a side street and off the main tourist track it is not really well known and therefore most of the people here are guests of the hotel. They have a late night DJ live on Friday and Saturday nights but somehow, for me the party just never seems to get going in here!

Karma on Fishamble Street is a bit hit-and-miss. Fun can be had here but it depends on the crowd. There are nights like on the weekend when the bar is packed and other times when the place is empty, save one or two loners at the bar. Despite it being connected to a hotel, the bar lacks a sophisticated décor. In fact, it’s downright scary. The walls are painted red with black spots and red Chinese lanterns hang for the ceiling. I’m pretty sure that there’s also a black dragon somewhere. It used to be one of the only places to get a cheap pint but since other pubs slashed their prices, it just doesn’t get the crowd it used to. Now it’s the place to throw leaving parties because it’s easy to squeeze in a lot of friends. I don’t suggest coming here alone because you’ll end up talking to all the wrong people.

Karma is the best place for a cheap pint, the cheapest place in Dublin that I have found so far. They always have some drinks promotion happening. Inside it’s an odd interior, it’s like a bad kung-fu film, but you have to have some type of trade off for the drinks bargins. They serve pub food, if you love grease more than the taste of actual food then you have found food heaven.
