I’ve probably said this before: I love shoes! and I intensely dislike Korky’s. Maybe it’s because most of the shoes here are pretty out there or just narrowly miss out on being proper classics and are just outdated. Maybe it’s because the staff are seriously unhelpful here– I’d found this great pair of heels and needed them in a different size just to be told the manufacturers actually didn’t make them bigger than a size 5. I checked online and unsurprisingly it turned out that had been a complete lie and I eventually found the shoes in the right size in the sister store on Henry Street– they could have just called and asked…’nuff said, two stars from me.

Whether your footwear tastes are weird and wonderful or more humdrum and mainstream, Korky’s is a decent enough shoe shop to mooch around in. And if that wasn’t enough, our very own Dublin warbler with the face of an angel, Ronan Keating, once worked here as a shop assistant! As Laura says, Korky’s stocks whacky styles as well as current trends with a twist. It’s the kind of place where you could pick up some good quality, funky shoes or boots though personally I’m ever the browser, never the buyer in Korky’s. Prices range from about € 50 up but the quality is good and this isn’t bargain basement stuff. I do enjoy gazing at the more outlandish, gravity defying styles and wondering how young ones walk around in them. Then I ask myself when I started thinking like a granny…

I’m not really a shoe person to be honest. The idea of owning hundreds of pairs of shoes frightens me frankly — how in the world would you ever have enough outfits to match them to, let alone the space to store them? Carrie Bradshaw I ain’t. I do, however, quite like Korkys. It’s a wee bit different, and has a whole range of choices, from the latest strappys for a night on the tiles, to more practical boots and a good choice for the lads too. I’ve always found a slight quirkiness to Korkys that’s nicely refreshing, as they do sometimes have interesting takes on current fashions. They’re also good if you want something that isn’t quite ‘in fashion’(like if the gladiatorial style really isn’t your thing…). And the fact that the staff communicate via walkie-talkies is just fun
