Le Petit Cochon is a lovely little neighbourhood eatery in Sandycove, a relaxed and casual spot. It was formerly Tribes Restaurant and they decided to do it over, and with a full décor makeover, embraced their French roots creating an entirely French menu. Sometimes I find traditional kind of French food to be heavy, with lots of sauces and just not my thing. But here its a lighter take on that style of cooking and food and one I really like… Their Moules du Jour are always good, Big steaming pots of mussels with different garnishes each day, we have had them ‘au cidre’ with apple matchsticks on top in a lovely cidery apple creamy sauce and on another visit, au pastis’ — a white wine cream sauce with fennel on top. On one visit we had the sirloin steak, I’d skip that next time, it was fine but nothing special and there are far nicer dishes on their menu. Cheeseboard is a great offering too, nice selection and size. For Sunday lunch they do a ‘roast of the day’ and on our visit we had the Poussin and this was one of the nicest things I’ve eaten in ages… so moist and flavoursome, presented beautifully on the board with the roast potatoes and carrots and a little jug of jus. If having dessert, try the ‘Mousse au Chocolat’ — dark chocolate mousse with candied peanut, salted butter caramel sauce — so good! They have great menus with a very good Early Bird all night Sunday — Thursday which is € 21.95 for 2 courses /€ 25.95 for 3 courses. Lunch on Sunday is € 19 for 2 courses /€ 24 for 3 courses. The wine list has good choices at different price points including wines by carafe. If you’re nearby go visit, I know I will return soon!

I don’t really understand how someone can give 3 stars for that restaurant — ok they really only have 2 choices of beer, Heineken and a panache but that’s ok — you are in a French restaurant! The food is amazing! Was there on Sunday late afternoon and we got a 2 course deal for 19 euro! I had a delicious celeriac, apple, pistachio nuts and duck salad with an amazing honey mustard dressing. My friend had the poached egg with asparagus and Parmesan — interesting mixture and yum! For mains we went with roast of the day, which was a stuffed baby chicken with thyme jus and roasted vegetables. I had pan fried salmon with slow roasted potatoes, green vegetables and sauce hollandaise. Beautiful, nice atmosphere, friendly staff and I will definitely spread the word about this lovely place!

This is a review long over due. I had dinner at the Le Petit Cochon Restaurant last October. I live in California and I must say my sister and I enjoyed every morsel of food we had. The Fr. Onion soup was fantastic some of the best I ever had. I enjoyed my Beef B. immensely. The hearty Burgundy the matier D. recommended was perfect. I am looking forward to my next visit this August. I have to add the cost was in my opinion was very reasonable. Hurry up August.

A nice new addition to Glasthule. Formerly tribes, Le Petit Cochon is serving classic French cooking. The décor is a little bit too cutesy, but there is a nice atmosphere and the staff are great. The food is incredibly reasonably priced, with starters € 10 and under(including foie gras, I do not know how this is possible) and mains in the mid teens. I went for two starter dishes and a side. The foie gras was perfectly cooked and generously portioned along with lovely brioche. I followed up with classic coquilles saint jacques and breaded courgettes. Everything was very tasty and well executed. After we paid our bill, we were given a drink of our choice on the house to celebrate the impending New Year. An excellent neighbourhood place for a relaxed meal.
