This is a small hardware store in Rathmines. It has quite a good selection. Every time I shop here, I find everything I need. In a matter of fact, I find things I did not even know I needed. The young ladies that work in the store are extremely helpful and friendly. The prices are not bad. I highly recommend this store.

It’s a hardware shop! Don’t go in looking for a bunch of flowers, though it wouldn’t surprise me if you could get them here as they often have random stuff for sale or on display in the window. This is a good thing! It’s two minutes away from me and I have had to make MANY a brisk journey down to it when trying to be a hands on man of the house, finding out ‘I shouldn’t have twisted it that way’, or ‘is it supposed to look like that’ moments! Always handy, always helpful, and yes, I have bought a toaster here too! Can’t fault it for my needs that’s for sure. Great for handyman heads, people who think they are handyman heads, and get that mess cleaned up quickly heads!

Friday was moving-in day. It had already had one major thing go wrong and my collection of assorted tools were in the wrong city. Now that wouldn’t normally be a big problem but it is when you’ve no means of removing the bolts from the back of a new washing machine so that you can use it or the soon to be ex-kitchen won’t facilitate me putting the fridge freezer into 0place. So I wandered through Rathmines in the rain looking for a hardware shop and found Lenehans. They catered for my exact cutting an un-bolting needs and I saw plenty that I will be back for. There aren’t enough of these indepenndent hardware shops.

This is one of those businesses that you won’t even realise exists until you absolutely desperately need it. It seems like there are not many small hardware stores still in business, and they’ve all been replaced by big-box retailers in suburban industrial parks. Lenehans remains, bestriding Rathmines like a colossus. As colossal as a small hardware shop can be anyway. If you’re a DIY novice(points finger at self), Lenehans is brilliant. The staff are really patient, and were helpful despite my best instruction being«a thingy shaped like that, but not that». It is a bit pricey, but they’re offering a service that’s becoming harder to find by the day. It’s a pretty ramshackle store, I noticed a small selection of Bodum kitchen gear as I was leaving, so you might be lucky if you’re looking for the odd gift as well.

I went in for drain un-blocker. I was in a bit of a rush, but was directed to where I could find all they had on offer re said un-blocker. They then advised on what product was the best for what I needed… I went hardcore and got the one that only trades people should buy. Or at least that’s what the bottle said. Yes I live dangerously when it comes to clearing drains. An A-OK experience

This is a fantastic place! they have a little of everything you might need and the helpful and friendly advice short fat and balding men such as myself might need in times of domestic DIY crisis. Such times of crisis are many and varied, they haven’t let me down yet!

What a quirky little hardware store. Sure, they sell drills and screwdrivers, but they have a much wider selection of clothes hangers. Their stock is equal parts hardware and household goods. It’s curious(and pricey), but sufficient. I’ve also found their organization to be incomprehensible. For example, masking tape, duct tape, and non-slip tape are stocked in three different locations. You are better off just asking the staff where to find your goods. But the good news is that they will be more than happy to help you find things and will probably lend a little advice as they do.

I have to agree with the woman I met in Lenehans today. The happy shopper turned around to me in the storage section and said: «I love hardware stores! You always end up buying the weirdest things» and walked away with a ‘No Smoking’ sign and a glass cutter in her hand. Lenehans is a hardware shop you can’t help valuing. It has everything you would expect, from doorknobs and showerheads to hardwood wax, paint and brushes. And when the job is done you can make yourself a well-deserved cup with your brand-new coffee machine.

Lenehans is at once a serious hardware shop and a silly knick-knack shop. You can get all sorts of frivolous and odd things, like a really, really tiny sauce pan designed for heating enough milk for one coffee and, also, get twenty-five litres of white gloss emulsion. This mixture of genuinely useful and great amusement factor makes a trip to the hardware shop fun for all the family, very highly recommended indeed. The history of this company is also brilliant. The Lenehan’s on Capel Street is a whopping 137 years old and was started by Thomas Lenehan, a High Sheriff and Alderman(whatever that is!) and a woman, known to us now only as Miss Ryan, who was, of all things, an Iron Monger, who got down to a-marryin’ and started the Capel Street outlet. That’s pretty cool right?

Lenehans do indeed stock everything for the DIY enthusiast, and then some. This place is packed with the most intriguing array of everything, from lamps to plant seeds to storage containers to cutlery sets. If you’re not careful you’ll get lost in the tightly packed alleys of the store. Don’t expect to emerge from the wreckage without an armful of household items you never knew you needed or even wanted, until now. It’s one of those small businesses you really want to support so they don’t get engulfed by the hardware business giants.

Before Woodies and B&Q invaded the suburbs local hardware shops were all the rage, Lenehan’s has survived though and still providing the same as the big box stores further a field. This Rathmines branch has everything you’d need for the DIY enthusiast, from power tools to paint, plumping supplies to storage solutions. The only issue I can see with this branch of Lenehans is the lack of parking a big issue. Some further up the road but as its right on a bus lane not always the best.
