This place is ok. I’ve had food here twice, and grabbed a pint. In my view a solid three stars because nothing was all that bad about the food or service, but nothing all that great either. Basically — exactly what you’d expect. If you’re looking for a pint or a decent hot meal that’s not fancy this pub will do you just fine.

It was lunchtime and I was hungry and working along the lines of bowl of soup would be good right now. Generally not being a regular pub goer I sidled in wandered over to the bar to place my order. Within seconds I was being ushered to a corner table by a lovely grey haired gentleman wearing glasses who I shall now call Zippy. I describe him because he was so good and you know to ask for when you go there. Asked Zippy what the soup of the day was. ‘Vegetable’ he replied and it’s lovely. Great I said I will have that and a coke. It seemed like seconds later there was a bowl of soup there in front of me along with some thick cut brown bread and a pat of butter. Seconds later my Coke appeared. Now liking my butter I asked Zippy for more. ‘No problem would you like some more bread as well?‘ I tried the soup… I think it was vegetable… too salty… not hot enough in a small bowl and the bread was a little dry. Why 4 stars? Zippy! He was funny and I liked him. I decided I would be happy to go back there again… but not for the soup. Well it is a pub not a restaurant. Price 4.25 for the soup and 2.60 for the coke. As I was leaving I did mention I would be writing a review for but Zippy had not a clue what this meant and that was ok too. Zippy did say that they had a website — why? Anyway nice surroundings, friendly atmosphere, TV picture was on Sky news… and there was Zippy!
