Really disappointed with the service and food despite other reviews. Had the pâté which was too liquidy and bitter. The staff were not friendly and seemed rushed. I can’t comment on the main course because it was nearly an hour after starters before we decided to leave. At that point the manager indignantly said«madam all our orders are custom cooked». We should hope so ! But an hours wait for a fish dish that takes 5 minutes to cook alongside a crab salad. Avoid, it’s just a tourist trap

We had a team dinner in Mid December 2015 at Matt the Tresher in Dublin(Pembroke street). Some of our team members had seafood platters and some had steaks. Out of 9 persons, 6 had SEVEREFOODPOISONING within the next 24 hours.

We made last-minute reservations here, and were so glad we did! I figured we’d get a bad table, but we were seated right in the front and had friendly, attentive service. I had the crab claws, which were absolutely delectable, while my husband had the mussels. It was the largest portion of mussels we’ve encountered at a restaurant, and could easily be shared. We also ordered a side of the Parmesan truffle chips. Yum! We didn’t finish anything, but not for lack of effort! I would be happy to come back here, and would definitely recommend to friends.

Very good food. Fresh and delicious local seafood. I can’t complain about the wonderful oysters, the very good chowder, or the delicious monkfish special. I would highly recommend based on the food alone. However, the service can be spotty, and the food seemed to take a while to be fired and sent to the table. This is a very large restaurant so I expect that your mileage may vary based on your server.

Just finished up dinner here. All I can say it wow!!! Ordered the Parmesan truffle fries, the crab claws, and cheese tray for dessert. Thoroughly satisfied. Big plus to our night was our server Ivan. He took his time to explain dishes for us, paired wine very well and sold us on the delicious cheese tray. Kudos to his service tonight seriously, he did an awesome job! The food was spectacular. Seafood here is amazing. Crab was rich in flavor but complemented with a dry wine! First time trying cheese as a dessert too. 5⁄5 review. Will be back next time. Thanks Ivan!!!

We were on a business trip, a crew size of maybe up to 15 of us. The staff at Matt The Thresher were unbelievably attentive & definitely clocked we were mostly English on Irish soil, so we probably got told a yarn or two. Possibly even put under their spell with their accents. Matt The Thresher, at first sounds odd. However we jumped out of the cab, shuffled inside and what we saw was this lively restaurant to which specializes in some extremely fine wines and seafood. A guiness was shoved in my hand and we sat down. The waiter whom served us was brilliant, recommended the seafood salad which had incredible crabs claws and various other yummy goodness inside. Lots of wine later & irish music and we were done. It may be a little pricey but we were on a business trip as I said before. A great place for special occasions or celebrations! :)

We LOVED it! I had my dads 70th Bday party there and it turned out perfectly. The food was delicious, the service was excellent — we even had to bump our reservation to a later time(twice) because our tour that day ran late and they could not have been more accommodating. It was so perfect! It’s a little off the beaten path for tourists — but well worth the trip!

This was my seafood fix while I was staying in Dublin. Had no issue getting a table without reservations. Ordered a dozen oysters and a prawn cocktail to start. Both items met expectations. I decided to go with the sole on the daily specials menu. Portion was quite large and it came with sides. Dining partner decided on some seafood stew dish. It looked ok, she said it was great. I suggest the lemon sole if it’s on the menu. Wine menu was some what limited, but adequate. Surprisingly few great seafood restaurants considering we’re on an island.

We were hooked when we saw all the fresh fish on the menu and were not disappointed. We had some of the oysters and a salad to start and, because we were not extremely hungry, shared what I think they called a steaming pot of shellfish and some buttered veggies. The shellfish pot was brimming with mussels, shrimp, lobster, and chorizo and came with garlic bread. Some tasty brown bread was served with the starters. All paired with a very French wine from their extensive list. The décor is dominated by a huge chandelier that swirls dramatically above the dining room and there are windows making the feel airy. We are tourists, but would definitely done here again on a future visit.

A little but fancier than my normal dinner spot, but change is OK right? A HUGE chandelier stretches across the entire ceiling and a baby grand sits in the upstairs seating area. Aside from the piano music it’s a pretty quiet place, very relaxed. Probably not a great place to bring the kids. From the time you walk in until you leave someone is always making sure you’re OK. Needless to say the service is fast and pleasant. Enough with all of that though, you came for seafood right. Well you made an excellent choice. Everything we had was fresh as can be and prepared perfectly. The muscles and Dingle Bay crab claws we especially good. Be sure to save a little room for their brown bread it was some of the best I had in Ireland. Definitely check it out if you’re in town.

Really good seafood restaurant just off Baggot street. Was there last week for a 30th and they were very accommodating to a big group of girls! Had the Tian of Smoked Salmon, Crab & Apple with a Lime Dressing to start and a big pot of mussels with garlic bread for my main. Both were beautifully cooked and delicious! Really nice atmosphere and we stayed until about 12 drinking lots of wine, would highly recommend!

A delightful evening with incredibly fresh seafood. The specials varied and were beautifully prepared. My husband loved his plaice fish with olive and chorizo.(one of his favorites on our 2 week trip) A friend ordered a fish pot, which was enough to feed the entire table! Somehow he finished it with a huge smile on his face. Starters included a fish chowder(not the highlight), and Oysters which were AMAZING! Order a few of these!

If you need to get your fix for seafood, look no further. Servers are very knowledgeable of their menu, and the food is superb. We had the dozen oysters, the pan-fried hake special and the shellfish pot. The seafood was fresh in each instance. The oysters were soft and tasty, the fish was flaky, and the contents of the seafood pot had a sweetness to them. Décor is nice and you couldn’t possibly go wrong if you pick one of your servers recommendations.

This place definitely deserves 5 stars! Went here a couple of times in 2012 and thought the food was amazing. We returned in December 2014 with my future parents in law for dinner and the food was just as good as I remembered. What I really like about here is that its not like some other places where standards slip with popularity which I think went through the roof after Michelle Obama had lunch here?! We booked for early evening not long before Christmas and the place was packed. We had the table for just over two hours. Even though the place was packed you didn’t feel like it was. The tables are well spaced out so it still felt quite private. I had the lobster and prawn cocktail, followed by a tuna burger(Which was their special that day) and finished off with a chocolate trio mousse. The seafood specials change daily with whatever the catch of the day is but the food is always fresh. If you’re looking for great seafood, service and atmosphere you should definitely try here.

Matt the Thresher was recommended to me by a friend. This was one of the best meals I’ve ever had, and without a doubt the best I’ve had in Ireland. Atmosphere: The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with a vibrant atmosphere. It is very charming, with an open fire at the entrance. There is also a large ice counter displaying the catch of the day and a piano at the center of the restaurant. Food: All the dishes were extremely fresh and very flavorful. Everything was so tasty and each item on the menu had its own distinctive accompaniment. We started with a dozen raw oysters that were served with 3 different toppings, and they were absolutely delicious. I ordered the Mussels for my main course, and my boyfriend ordered the daily fresh catch special. Both were superb. I love mussels, and have sampled them across the US. The mussels at Matt the Thresher. were some of the best mussels I have ever had. We also accompanied our meal with a pint of Guinness, and the whole experience was just perfect. Service: The service was superb, with our waiter checking back with us often, and very attentive and polite. I also really enjoyed listening to his accent, so it was just a lovely experience. I definitely believe that this is one of Dublin’s best restaurants! Money well spent. If you visit Dublin, this is a restaurant I would recommend, especially if you love seafood like I do.

Best seafood in Dublin by far, they have daily specials based on the catch of the day. The restaurant is cozy, staff very friendly and most likely you need a reservation for both lunch and dinner since it is in the business district of Dublin. During my two lunches here I tried the seafood chowder, it has big chunks of fresh fish in it and it is creamy and delicious. They use parsnip in some of the dishes instead of mashed potatoes and I love that. I also tried the sole, that was prepared perfectly, and a large portion served with asparagus and a fresh shrimp dish that had the one of the sweetest and freshest large shrimp I have ever had. I am recommending this restaurant to anyone that is visiting Dublin and is an a mood for fresh seafood.

We stopped by here for a pre-dinner drink the other night. Place looks nice and clean and shiny, and down the back there seems to be little«library» area. We didn’t eat, but the food smelled ok. Two spirits with two mixers was almost 18 squid! Ok, I know we’re going to get another mix out of the minerals, but holy moley. Gave a 20 note and got back like 4 coins. This is why I always let the husband pay for drinks. I can’t say I’d make it my new local, but it would be a nice place to take your parents or grandparents for one.

Not sure what else I can really add to the reviews of this place having lived in Boston for so long I expect good sea food and like all the reviews say they deliver each time I’m there. What’s above and beyond is the customer service to me. They appear truly interested and caring. Tonight was there with some hard to meet dietary restrictions and they checked in everything and presented options. It would have been so easy for them to just blow it off like others have in the past Then to top it off on the way I i simply asked which direction to the nearest taxi stand and they go outside(in the rain) and get a cab for me First class act they could have doubled the price of my meal and I still would have felt it money well spent

This was one of my favorite meals while visiting Dublin! We sat at the bar and had the fish pie and the scampi & chips. This was the best seafood we had in Dublin proper. The batter on the prawns so was crispy and light, not greasy and soggy at all. The atmosphere was classy, but not at all pretentious.

«Piano and food» Excellent seafood. The specials are always excellent. Wine selection is good. We have been there several times and brought friends who were equally as impressed. If you like seafood then give it a try. When the piano is playing it adds to the atmosphere
