WORSTMOBILECOMPANYEVER! I moved here from the states, looking for a job. I got a Meteor Samsung Mini Galaxy that worked for a month. Then something went wrong with the hardware. I had to go through all sorts of different emails and phone calls before I was told how to send it in for repair. I’d bought the phone on Henry Street but was in Galway looking for work. There was plenty of work in Galway but because my phone was broken, I couldn’t get the voicemails. My phone was in repair for 10 working days(2 weeks) and I was offered a replacement phone for 40 euro which I couldn’t afford. I got a job at a hostel in the Aran Islands and picked up my phone on my way to catch the ferry. My phone worked for 2 hours. Then the same problem arose. I sent my phone to a friend in Galway and asked him to take it in and ask for a new phone as this one is clearly defective. They instead sent this phone off for repair and I was, once again, offered a replacement phone for 40 euro which, again, I don’t have. This is obviously a problem on Meteor’s end and through no fault of my own. I called customer service and they are completely unwilling to help me in any way. They will not give me a replacement phone free of charge and by the time I get my phone back, it will have been a month that I was without a phone. It’s really tough trying to find a job without a phone. Their customer service in person and on the phone is horrendous. I don’t expect stellar customer service as I’ve had in the past with other mobile companies but I would settle for at least sub-standard service. Lastly, there is a rep in the Eyre Shopping Centre store who is a complete idiot. He refused to listen/didn’t care as to what I was saying. I’d come in 5 days after I’d dropped my phone off for repair and asked if it had been returned yet and he said, «We will call or text you when your phone is back.» I said, «But you have my phone so there’s no way I can receive those messages.» He repeated himself again, I repeated myself, he repeated himself, it was this ridiculous loop and was very indicative of how horrendous their customer service is and how much they value their customers. 2 tin cans and a string is better than what Meteor provides.

A very polite person(the only one working at the time and no line, none the less!) looked into my phone and saw that the internet was no longer set up, sent a text to the phone and then it worked. I’ve spent over 7 weeks going between this Meteor and Fonemenders across the way trying to fix this and no one saw that on my account or in the phone until now. If my problem had been solved this way the first time I would have given them 5 stars!

Absolutely broke my heart trying to get a refund for a phone that broke while still under warranty. The explanation I received on bring in to the Henry st. store was«ah yeah, that’s always ‘happin with ‘dat fone». Ok was my reply, will you send it off and fix it? 4 days later the repaired phone is back, problem forgotten, or so I thought. I walked out of the shop, onto the bus, Sim in, phone on, off I go. Sitting on the bus home the screen goes yellow and feels like it will stay that way, this being a different problem to the first problem. In again to Henry the next day(see above conversation). 4 days later, sim in phone on etc… Luckily Dublin bus isn’t as prompt this day because the turning off problem decides to come back as I wait for the bus. In total the phone was sent off 6 times for repair. I was refused each time a refund; this after I was told if the problem isn’t rectified after the third attempt to fix you received refund/replacement there and then. So off I went to the customer rights people and all that crap(who are similar in efficiency to meteor, at least they work over the phone). In the end I was sent a new phone from a place in Britain, without a battery, Henry street shop had the original phone in store, so another visit to Meteor was needed, in total close to € 20 in bus fare alone. I had no choice but to put up with this crap. Meteor we’re not going to fork over € 250(which I was entitled to) and consumer rights didn’t give a crap(great job guys). The second phone broke 6months later(Motorola); luckily I wasn’t as skint so I could move to 02. To compliment O2 I bought a phone with them, it too stopped turning off and it was replaced in store straight way(9 months after purchase). Meteor really deserves that«Knack» service provider reputation it has, and seems proud with it too. More pride I gained in Irish services and goods. Now that O2 are providing free texts to any network or free texts and calls to same network no one needs to lubricate Meteors pockets any more.

It’s not entirely uncommon for me to return home after a night out without a wallet keys or most often… phone. Seeing as this is a fairly common occurance, the staff in Meteor on Henry street are pretty familiar with me. The Nokia 40 € special as I know it has been purchased by yours truly a total of four times this year, and trust me Meteor will always be the best value. The staff aren’t always that friendly though, which you think they would be to me at least. Considering the amount of money I pump into the place.

When I first moved to Dublin and needed a mobile phone right away I did a lot of comparison shopping in order to find, frankly, the cheapest possible phone. I went into Meteor and a very nice and helpful sales associate came over to me right away and asked if he could help me with anything, and I said I was looking for a phone. He asked, are there any features in particular you’re looking for? I said yes, I would like for it to make and receive telephone calls. He smiled and led me to the most basic phone they had. At 40 euros, it wasn’t a bargain, but it was cheaper than at the competition. The phone worked just fine so I went back again because Meteor again has the cheapest mobile broadband out there. Plus, they do not require you to sign a contract in order to receive monthly service. The staff was polite and helpful as ever and we were in and out of there in a flash.
