The worst service or lack of service I have suffered in many years. My wife and I sat outside for 30 mins and I went in twice to ask for a waiter to come take out order. No waiter comes and I go in again. Five more minutes go by and he finally strolls outside. The waiter proceeds to take the order of two people that and gotten there 5 minutes earlier and then walked back in inside ignoring us as if we didn’t exist. I went and asked him if he was going to come out and take out order we had been sitting their he said oh I didn’t see you I’ll Come out when I can. The place was not busy and now I know why. My American friends don’t waste your time with this garbage of no service restaurant. Awful awful Awful or as the Irish would say pure shiiiitttee.

This branch tends to be rather empty during the week and packed with young families on the weekend. [This is because it’s right beside the Dart/Pier with a big open plaza for them to run around on and outdoor seating.] There are a lot of hard surfaces so it’s always very noisy, even when relatively empty. The waiter was attentive, but had very poor English. Despite several attempts to correct him and pointing vigorously at the menu, we were brought the wrong item(a pizza with chicken for a vegetarian). The manager took the pizza away and promised a new one, but we were given the same pizza back with the chicken picked off(I know this because they missed a bit). Don’t really mind them picking off the chicken, I’d have done the same thing if I was working in the kitchen. Better than waiting another 30 minutes for a new pizza. It would just have been nice to be given the correct pizza in the first place. Tiramisu was great. Mostly, came here to try it out because of a lack of alternatives for vegetarians in Dun Laoghaire. Since the part of the order that was wrong was the vegetarian bit, we probably won’t be back. Overall: It’s not horrible. It’s just kind of noisy and the lunchtime waitstaff could improve their game.

Probably not the best Milanos due to low ceilings and in turn high levels of noise. Doesn’t help that Sundays seem to be bring your children for pizza day. What happened to a good aul fashioned Sunday roast? Anyhoo. Same standard food as most Milano’s. Some nice new additions to the menu such as risotto and some new deserts such as salted caramel slice which was really lovely. Can’t go wrong with the pizza there. I think they have reduced their choice of pizza but I still managed to find a good combination. Overall a pleasant experience and will come back again when I feel like being bold!

I visited Milano a few weeks ago, and, although some of my friends like the one on Dawson street, we left disappointed. We were seated, and it took nearly 40 minutes to get the attention of a waitress to place an order. At this point we were starving, so I ordered a three course meal, with a discount. When the bill(eventually) came around after the meal, I saw that my courses were counted seperate, and I was being charged extra. Taking that up with the waitress, who really didnt seem to care, could only respond with«I don’t know why that happened.» and refused to honor the deal on the menu, leaving me to fork over the extra change for subpar food and terrible service. We recently went back for a friends birthday, and, after being seated and managing to grab the attention of the waitress, who was just overall rude and unkind(You should start off with«hello», not«What do you want?»). Seeming unattentive, she was proved so when our meals got to the table. From a group of 8 of us, three of our meals were completely wrong, and 2 had small inconsistencies, wrong base, toppings, etc. disappointed time and time again. Gave the benefit of the doubt the first time, but I was proven right in thinking that this really is the bottom of the barrel of food, value, and service in Dun Laoighre.

I popped in here for lunch with a mate of mine on a whim and was pleasantly surprised with the food, as the things I’d heard hadn’t been endorsements exactly. The place was dead as a dodo with only one other table occupied and in the large airy room, there was almost an echo. General décor is okay with a few local touches paying homage to the surrounding Dun L area. The layout is WAY too open plan for my liking though. The cold hard chairs and tables tightly packed together reminded me of a classroom. Service was adequate. The waitress seemed bored, and I don’t blame her one bit, I was amazed she had anything to do at all. For the food, I got a classic base Le Reine pizza with an alteration to the toppings and a side of Polenta chips. My friend got a thin base spicy pizza with the same side. The food arrived relatively quickly and looked and smelled GREAT. When I say I wasn’t expecting great things, I mean it, but this pizza was fresh, cooked to perfection and just exploded with flavour. With just the right amount of cheese, thickness and topping spread, this pizza was a joy to eat! The polenta chips were different certainly, but I’m not sure they qualify as «chips», they’re more like croquettes, sprinkled with rosemary and a hard cheese and served with a honey and mustard dip. They were few in number for the price, but were pretty decent, all told. We were in and out of the place in 45 mins or so and were quite happy with the food. Quite pricey for a chain restaurant, but the pizza really was delicious, the best I’ve had in a long time.

Mind you this was on st Patricks day… Well what can I say. Pizza was mmmmeeeehhh sweet … A Liiiiitle too sweet for meh taste! Service was slow as a slug. Tho what can you expect. St party’s day. I’ve decided I’m not a big Peroni fan, as that’s one of the few beers milanos offers. I hear the pizza in Italy is amazing. Not sure if this is a very good representative? Anyways. It’s not bad if your hungry. We were…

Milano: You get the food you expect to get. Which is good obviously. I never had a bad experience for food in Milano. I love their Dough balls, Bosco Salad and Padana Pizza. The latter I got this time as a classic and not a romana pizza. All good. But I was tempted to go as low as two stars for the service. I’ve been in the Dun Laoghaire restaurant three times now. First time was ok, second time the staff was very stressed out and hence not very friendly and this time(lunch time) the staff was rather bored — as well when talking to us. Yes, only around 6 tables were occupied but nonetheless: They are open and it shouldn’t matter how busy or not they are the customers should always be treated friendly.

I’m staaarrrvviiinngggg. Feeeeeddddd meeeeee! The wailing was not coming from a child, but my mid 20s sister on Friday night. Having dropped my daughter to a disco in Dalky, to shut up the sister I headed with her through half of south Dublin until we reached a restaurant which met with her exacting standards. Unfortunately she chose Milanos. Firstly, the venue itself is freezing, coats on/numb hands freezing. We sat down and ordered 2 pizzas, 2 pinos, polenta fries and water. Our drinks came quickly, a vinegary vino and thimble of water. My glass was dirty, but the waitress quickly got me a new one and apologised, and was the only staff member who we could get to pay even scant attention to us during the evening. Our pizzas came pretty quickly, but were repulsive, the sister got one of their new extra thin ones, which was somehow still very soggy, as was mine, and the toppings of both could best be described as scant. Chips were both different and tasty though, but I cant recommend coming here for these alone, not least cause there were 6 in the bowl(we counted!) For € 43 between us, I could not have felt more ripped off.

Very kid friendly. Ideal for families. Nice atmosphere. However, understaffed. Regularly served nearly cold pizzas. A little overpriced.

First, let me add the following qualification: I’ve only ever eaten here at lunch times and only with a family group including kids. This is a great place for kids in warm weather, you can sit outside and they have room to… er…be noisy without upsetting anyone(which personally, I hate if I’m trying to eat a quiet lunch). It is a family restaurant, at least at lunch times. However, the service, as other posters have suggested, is a bit iffy. For instance, they bring out unsharpened, leadless colouring pencils for the kids so much that we actually bring our own sharpeners. But heck, if you eat out with kids, you come prepared to entertain them yourself. In terms of the food, I love the pizza with the hole in it(purely psychological I know); HOWEVER, I’ve had it twice when the hole was filled with salad so geriatric that I just wasn’t able to eat it. That was during winter so I’m guessing that turn over wasn’t so good at that time. Mostly it’s fine. The kids ADORE the ‘kids espressos’(steamed milk in cute cups). And my family love the mini desserts they introduced recently. Overall, it’s a good family place for lunch if VERY crowded on weekends. As I said, I have no experience of this as an adult, evening dining spot, but it’s a good place to take the family for lunch in summer.(Just check the salad and bring your own pencil sharpener ;P)

I’ve been a fan of the Milano chain for a long time(I remember when there was just the original one on Dawson St) and over the years, I’ve tried their various additional locations. I’ve even tried and like Pizza Express in the UK(Milano’s parent company). When I tried this Milano for the first time last night, and I was disappointed. The pizzas were consistent with the other locations, wide selection of options on the menu, tasty, but nothing extraordinary. Basically, what I’d expect from any of the Milano restaurants. Unfortunately, this was the only good experience from my visit. While the restaurant wasn’t packed, there was a steady stream of people coming and going, many with kids in tow and just the odd kid screaming and running around. So most tables were full, basically a typical Friday evening for somewhere popular in the suburbs. The space of the restaurant is a nice, open space with glass walls and the furniture is low. This means that with all these people sound travels a little too well, so conversation was challenging at times. What I was particularly disappointed with was the service. I only saw 3 or 4 waiters working the entire room, and they were extremely slow and quite inattentive. All we had was a plate of olives, drinks and 2 pizzas, but we were there for ~90 minutes. Most of our time was spent trying to flag a waiter to take our order, ask for the bill, and ask yet again for the bill. You could probably have a tooth pulled in quicker time. Wait! I have had teeth pulled in better time than that… In summary, I’m still a fan of Milano and their food, but I’m going to be going to their longer established branches, where service is better and the ambiance is better suited for conversations, not kids screaming and running around.

Milano’s in Dun Laoghaire is the latest branch of the ever successful Milano chain to open in Dublin. Similar to its sister restaurants, this branch is large, bright, airy and modern, offering good pizzas, pastas and generous salads. The new Leggera pizza is an innovative idea that I’m a big fan of — basically a pizza with a hole cut in the middle and filled with salad. There are vouchers floating around at the moment offering two pizzas for € 15. Great deal!
