Absolutely love this pub always drop in for a pint when in town. Staff are super friendly, Manager makes you feel so welcome, and good banter with the regulars. Well worth a visit.

In a city like Dublin where remarkable and exciting bars are around every corner, places like O’ Donoghue’s might slip under the radar. The clientele is bound to be mostly regulars, or those at the various comedy/open mic nights that they host. For me, it was just a bit meh! It’s a grand place, but nothing really sets it apart from anywhere else I’ve been, and if I were going to bring a friend to a Dublin pub for the experience, it just probably wouldn’t be this one. The staff are fairly sound, the location is good. Usually if I’m going to go to a pub like this, it would be for the opportunity to actually sit and chat rather than scream over music– but as it turned out, the music was blared pretty loud here. I’m a girl who likes her personal space and spending a whole night with other people’s faces right up to my ear so I can just about make out what they’re saying just isn’t my idea of a good time.

Food is shit. Service is shit. Burgers can only be ordered well done. My guess is they have a big bin full of well done burgers and they put’m in the microwave and serve’m up. One star for the atmosphere, cause it is a cool enough lookin bar. Maybe come here just to drink?

Strolling Grafton Street and wanted some lunch– stopped in and found a beautiful cozy pub. Got seats in back past the bar and enjoyed a very good casual lunch and a couple drinks. Decent menu but maybe a little pricey because of the location. We liked the other O’Donoghue’s a bit better but still a worthy stop.

I went here after a flash-mob event and it was strange I had not noticed this place before as it is in the middle of a tourist infested area of Dublin but what I liked about this place is that there were no tourists in there and it was an authentic place. As we were 15 people we had the upstairs all to our selves and the waitress was very patient with all of us as we were a bit indecisive in the beginning. What I did not like was the lack of inspiration of their drink and menu selection, it is the classic bland food and the same bland beer. Why is it that Dublin can not offer flavors in a pub? It is at times very frustrating.

Convenient location and friendly and courteous waitress(+1 star) Typical expensive pub with mostly swill to drink(–1 star) Came here with a group of people after a fun flash-mob event on Grafton Street and used their semi-private upstairs area … good for about 15 of us. Waitress took everyone’s food and drink order and even settled up individually when the time came. I’m not a huge fan of the whole pub scene in Dublin with everything being both over-priced and under-tasting but this place had old-school character and was both large enough and not crowded enough to suit our needs at the time.

This used to be called The Thing Moate and hasn’t improved since. The layout is terrible and the atmosphere is hectic(not in a good way). I’ve been here more times than I wish and frankly I never want to return. The only thing that stops me giving it one star is that the bar staff are sound and the Guinness is grand. My advise, go to O’Donoghues on Merrion Row.

I think I’d like to rate this place higher than 3 stars but I can’t. I like the fact that it feels like a pub — some places are just too bright and shiny. I’ve had many a good evening with friends here and always enjoyed myself. But it’s missing a certain je né said quoi. And also you feel like you’ve had your pockets picked when you check your wallet after a few drinks since it’s a lot emptier than it should be? Unless I’m drinking apples cider, made from apples grown in the hanging gardens of Babylon, out of the Holy Grail itself, I really shouldn’t be paying more than a fiver for a pint.

Go to Merrion Row instead! The Jameson is arbitrarily higher than surrounding pubs. I was surprised at this and could find no justifiable reason for the roguish rate. The place is dingy and uncomfortable. I can certainly appreciate ‘old man pubs’, rural rustic, and natural charm — but this is just meh. I was not impressed with the seating. While the pub was practically empty after work, there was no comfortable place the group of us could mingle and chat. It felt awkward, like we were all standing around waiting for the bus. After two rounds, we swiftly agreed to crawl on elsewhere.

This is a review for the O’Donoghues on Suffolk St. The pub appeared to be the usual traditional style pub from the outside, upon entering we were overpowered by the scent of the urinal cakes they place in the urinals for their bathrooms located in the basement. Unbelievably my family still chose to eat here after being sat in the 2nd floor of the pub. The staff seemed nice and the drinks and food were brought without much delay. The pints weren’t poured correctly but they were’t terrible either. The menu is the standard fare you would find in any other pub. I had the fish and chips as I wanted to play it safe and I didn’t think you could mess up Irish fish and chips. My wife had a salad and was sick shortly after eating the salad. I was fine. This pub lacks a lot. The floors and tables were sticky with the residue of years of beer not being cleaned off. The toilets are a health hazard. The food could be better. So, drink a pint, and leave.

I was in Dublin on a recent holiday with one of my younger brothers and a friend. We came to O’Donoghues on our second night and had a blast! Met alot of nice ppl. We had said that we wouldn’t go to the same bar more than once on our trip but we returned to O’Donoghues 2 more nights it was our favourite pub for sure! The staff were amazing soooooooo nice! And the atmosphere was great! Definitely would like to return in the not too distant future. Great place you should definitely visit!

I had my first ever authentic Irish stew at O’Donoghue’s, so in that way I am quite nostalgic about this public house. O’Donoghue’s is a cute pub, with a great looking downstairs area(although I wouldn’t know — every time I’ve been in they’ve always shooed me upstairs — not quite sure why? Am I not the clientele they want their other patrons seeing? Sometimes seems that way!) I’ve never ventured out here in the evenings, so maybe they let you hang out downstairs then, but upstairs is quite dank and lonely, and whenever I sit there I always feel as though I’m missing out on something a hell of a lot better down below. Hmmm, probably not, considering the other guys’ reviews.

Formerly thing mote, this small but cosy pub down from super pub O’Neils is a nice little find. Pretty basic as city centre pubs go, no food but there was a guy playing a guitar there last night. I was sitting in a great little snug at the front of the pub and watched the Dublin evening go by. Great pints of Guinness and staff didn’t run us out of the place at the end of the night, which is always nice and they were friendly too.

O’Donoghues of Suffolk St is the second most famous pub in Dublin to carry the O’Donoghues moniker. If you expect to come to this pub to see the birthplace and be regaled with traditional music you shall leave disappointed, as that is the other O’Donoghues, the one on Merrion Row. The one on Merrion Row is also the better of the two O’Donoghues generally, as the one Suffolk St is a little below par. Downstairs seems to be filled by either couples talking to one another, or men on their own looking at the television(which is on with its volume up too high, for a pub setting at any rate). No groups of people, no banter. I was upstairs before having a drink with some friends, and there seemed to be a few groups about, I ran into a guy I knew, it was good gas. I went back there on a date on another occasion. Big mistake. There was one other couple up there, who finished their drinks and left about an hour after we arrived. During most of this time, one of the employees was playing on one of the gambling machines, which flashes and makes noise. It was irritating. Then another of the staff members told us that they were closing upstairs(this is at about 10), and that we could go and sit downstairs. With all the tv zombies. We left. More miss than hit, you should give it a miss too. Go to O’Neills just a few doors down: ten times better atmosphere, and slightly cheaper pints to boot.
