Pros: — A real solid Irish pub; great music, great pints, just enough seating; enough to keep it intimate. — Great décor and crowd keeps it lively; no hipster bs. Cons: — Get there at the right time otherwise you’ll find seating limited.

Mostly well known traditional Irish pub. Can be packed on a busy night but has a partly outdoor area for overflow. Prices are average, typical beer selection, and food is above average for any bar I’ve been to.

Ah, O’Donoghue’s… Another institution around the Irish pub scene in Dublin! Fantastic olé pub, they have a great courtyard which pulls in the crowds all the time. Live music is regularly the order of the day here as well as being a great spot to catch some sport.

This place breathes Irish music and spirit. Whether on a fully packed weekend night, or a quiet weekday afternoon, it has a great atmosphere, friendly staff and perfect Guinness. Lots of Dubliners memorabilia on the walls.

If you go to Dublin, for fun or business, go here! It’s not touristy and the staff are beyond the pale. Super fun learning to pour the perfect pint and the music was terrific!

There is a bar tender at this bar, a young guy with blondy hair and a blond beard and he is horrible. He speaks to people like they are dirt. There were several people in my group who went up to the bar at different times and they all had awful experiences with him. He also tried to cheat me out of a drink I paid for. He needs to be fired. I hate to say it but someone like him has no place in customer service.

We stayed in one of the rooms above the pub for 3 nights while in Dublin. We also had rounds in the pub every night of our trip. Will be the first to admit that this place isn’t for everyone but for what we wanted it was perfect. Pro: –The location can’t be beat. You’re right in the center of everything. –Live music every night. –Good mix of locals and tourists. The crowd is friendly and you’ll have some interesting conversations. –The staff were friendly and warm. Everyone took really good care of us. Be cautious: –The rooms are clean and cozy but they’re also all upstairs and there’s no elevator. Be prepared that you might have to climb 4 flights each way. –Street noise was an issue, especially on Saturday night. It wasn’t awful(especially if you sleep with earplugs) but it was always present. Probably not ideal for light sleepers. Overall we had a wonderful time. I’d absolutely stay here again. And so long as noise and steps don’t bother you, I’d recommend it to others visiting Dublin as well.

Such a fun place with a great atmosphere! People from Dublin rave about this place, and for good reason. They serve a mean pint, and there’s a band of men playing at the front of the bar. Don’t stop there, however, or you’ll miss the rest of it! There’s more seating and bar area in the alley next door. Real, genuine pub in a fun area.

Didn’t have a lot on the menu, had Irish dishes along with food for any one. Ordered the carrot soup with brown bread. The soup was good, the bread was not as grainy as I’m use too. Other people in my group ordered the fish and said that it was frozen, and wish he ordered something else. The décor is nothing special, don’t care if I ever come back in the bar

Good atmosphere and décor that will appeal to tourists and locals alike. The bartenders in general are a fairly affable bunch, and you can have the craic with them if the music permits. Speaking of music, they do have regular trad sessions, which bring a bit of atmosphere to proceedings albeit if not the purest form of that genre you will find. One star deducted for the fairly standard(ie major brand) range of beers — in the age of the Irish craft beer revolution, it wouldn’t hurt them to have a few options on tap.

I was here for an after work drink, it was a sunny day so we sat outside which was lovely. It has a great, lively vibe. Its gets very busy so if you want a seat you better get there early!

Cozy pub! Very old school cozy pub. Went here about half past eleven on a Saturday and it was packed! The bartender was standing on the bar ready to give us our Guinness! They have Guinness waiting in the wings, and the bartender hands them out when you walk in. The crowd was all ages, young to old. Only downside was someone clearly farted so it smelled bad for a bit.

What a great pub. If you can stand crowds that is. Always packed full in the back and smoking area. Really good banter, especially on a Friday night. I’m always a bit worried about getting my clothes burnt by a cigarette though-that’s the only drawback. But no holes to date to report. When it’s not so busy, you get to meet some great characters with a storey or two to tell.

I hadn’t been at O’Donaghue’s in years, but we were near by and wanted an after dinner drink. It’s a great place for an after work pint or, in my case, a Sunday afternoon digestif! I love the back, with the heaters and random benches. I’m always cozy, even on a cold night.

Many may not know, but O’Donoghue’s is a bar and a Guest House. There are about 10 rooms up above it. The Bar: 4 Stars –It has an awesome outdoor area that’s covered in case of the(constant) rain –It’s really loud and boisterous, especially right after work hours so it is fun –Great location, super easy to find a taxi especially late night –It has a wide selection of beers/wines/whiskeys/other liquor –It is tough to find a seat because it is so popular The Guest House: 2.5 stars –The rooms are perfectly comfortable, albeit a little small, but it is very affordable for the area –It is all stairs, and a tight stairway too so if you have a large bag or a bad knee it’ll be tough to make your way up and down –The location is again great –Because there’s a bar below it it is SUPERLOUD until way late at night and even in the morning too because it is on a busy street –The shower fills up to your ankles within 5 minutes(on the top floor at least) All in all I would come back to the bar, I wouldn’t stay in the guest rooms again unless I planned to party late night and didn’t have to wake up in the morning.

Great pints. A few decent tunes. Guaranteed a decent session for tourists who’ve never experienced anything like it before. I’ve definitely enjoyed better trad in places where it’s appreciated more and you’d get a seat.

May the luck of the Irish be with you! Traveled to Ireland for the first time and have to say this is a must go-to-place for outsiders. Traditional, historic, nostalgic are all adjectives that expressly represent this pub. We left a small verifiable record that in fact we were there which is hanging over the bar along with hundreds of other patrons leaving their mark. This pub does not compete nor compare with Temple Bar which is targeted for tourists. This is a local pub that feels local once you enter so have a pint, listen to good music and enjoy yourself because you’ll forever remember it when you leave.

I love this place to go for a drink. Seems to be busy all day long with people so pop in any time and have a pint or two. There is a small snug at the front if you are lucky enough to find it empty or a small cozy bar to the side. Great place for smoking out the back with heaters so you won’t feel the chill. All ages go here so no matter what your age you should have the craic.

As I sit behind my computer, I am still wishing I was at O’Donoghue’s pub drinking a Bulmer’s Berry Cider out of a giant glass. The atmosphere is fantastic and the bartenders here are not only good looking(yes I said it) but extremely nice and fun. Cheers to Patrick. When you think of an Irish pub, this place should come to mind. You can feel the history when you walk in, especially since it’s the sight of The Dubliners formation. They have great Irish music at 9:30 on Friday nights, starting at 4:30 on Saturdays and pretty much all day Sundays. Get there early because it gets PACKED. The inside is pretty small but they have a pretty large outdoor area. I met a lovely Spanish girl, a guy from Canada and a local here so you never know who you’re going to meet either. Drinks are about what you expect to pay in a city at a well-known pub. They also have the typical toasted ham and cheese sandwiches if you’re hankering for a bite to eat(they can do just cheese for you non-meat eaters too).

After a tour on the hoponhopoff bus being told that this is a historical pub where The Dubliners actually formed. Therefor, of course, we had to go there. It was pretty early in the afternoon so there were plenty of seats. We ordered our pints and sat down in the inner room. It is rather dated — if you can say that about a pub without being told a pub SHOULDBE dated! Well, OK. But it can be dated in a good and a bad way. This feels a bit run down. So it is not a favorite of mine. Friendly staff as always at any pub in Dublin, that I’ve been to.

This was our attempt at visiting an authentic Irish pub with Irish music… and yep, we sure got it. O’Donoghues has a lot of history, because it’s the place where the Dubliners formed their band. But honestly, weren’t they from the Sixties? It’s a little before my time. So although I’ve heard of them, I’m not really a mega-fan and didn’t recognize all the people whose photos were up on the walls. The place is a bit old and run down, but we did see a group of fiddlers, and my friend was even able to do a bit of Irish dancing. I tried Bulmers berry cider, which tastes just like punch! Yum!
