The name’s changed. It’s Golden Cookie now. Still a Polish bakery. I highly recommend the donuts. I’ve seen them in the window many times, and finally gave in to temptation. Can’t wait to have another.

Really good value-you get a slice of chocolate cake big enough for 3 people(although I coped) for € 4 for example… and many other cakes are weighed out depending on how much you want. There’s a large array of cheesecakes and I particularly liked the apple pie topped with meringue. It’s fun to try all the different specialty cakes/doughnuts/breads and they have enough variety to keep you going for weeks. They do taste different to usual Irish cakes so some trial and error is involved… bring your sense of cake adventure! Staff are friendly, even when faced with an overwhelmed cake addict(what to choose?, what to choose?) and they’ve helpfully labelled the cakes too for the uninitiated :-)

Now I have a double G sized arse if that’s possible; thank you Party Cake(isn’t that a fantastic name?!) for my newly extended derrière. The sun is out in Dublin city and people are feeling good. I decided to check out this spot after reading what the other Unilocalers had to say. Nice selection of pastries, check the pics! There were a lot of Polish in there having coffee and eating… Cake! I got a box of doughnuts. Toffee, apricot, strawberry, blueberry flavours. I’m used to a more moist doughnut, perhaps it’s a different baking style that the Polish use. Not that they were bad, everyone liked them, I just prefer them softer. Server was a dote. They only accept cash!

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for decent Polish baking. Fritters, poppyseed anything, dense slices of crumbling almondy cake… yes please. Party Cake knows what I’m talking about; this thriving Polish bakery-cum-café is a hub for dessert loving Dublin Poles and anyone who can appreciate a nice apple slice with a cup of coffee The atmosphere is genuine, the service isn’t a bother and boy is there buzz(and I’m not just talking about that great Dubliner review). Tables do fill up on weekend afternoons but it doesn’t hurt to drop in for a box of sliced nummies to take home.

Party Cake is a new coffee shop and bakery on Capel Street. To get to the café you have to walk past the bakery counter. They do have some lovely cakes on offer and you can buy whole cakes here if you need to fake the home-made thing to impress your family… The coffee shop is nice, there were mostly Polish people having a coffee and a chat. The Cracow cake was very nice– a tough choice as well because the marble cake looked equally nice but I didn’t want to seem greedy and take both– but the coffee was a bit of a let-down. I think next time I’ll just take that cake to go.

Recently opened Polish Cake shop and café on Capel St. Dropped in for the first time 2 weeks ago and got some nice Polish cakes as a gift. Very friendly staff and most welcoming. There is a little café at the back of the shop with lots of Polish ex-pats drinking coffee and tea and catching up with their friends. Worth a visit for a slice of Cracow Cake.
