We went to Spur on a whim while waiting for a film and I remembered great nights dining there while I’d been in college. We were seated quickly(all other restaurants nearby had queues, while Spur had a few empty tables), and well looked after by our server, Mayo. The food was nice — I started with a small portion of BBQ wings, which were a little dry. Negative points for the lack of a wet wipe to clean my fingers — they’re essential when eating wings. I’d a beef burger for my main with bacon and cheese. The burger was well cooked but considering the price of the food, it was t going to blow anyone away. Overall it was a good experience. Great service but food that was lacking, especially considering the price.

I had dinner here lastnight for the first time in years. I used to come to Spur all the time when I was in college. The restaurant itself has had a serious makeover, but the menu is pretty much the same. Staff were nice and attentive. I ordered a bacon and cheese burger with fries and coleslaw. Overall it was ok, nothing special and nothing new. Considering I hadn’t been there in at least 5⁄6 years I was pretty shocked to find such a familiar set up. I wonder if they could do something to inject life into the restaurant besides an interior make over? Perhaps.

We were quickly seated. Very friendly staff and we were served quickly. The free refills of fizzy drinks was brilliant and more places should do this in Ireland. The menu could have a bit more choice though. The bbq chicken was delicious!

We were looking forward to dinner but in hindsight, the queue outside of Eddie Rockets and the empty tables in here should have given us a hint! It took 20 minutes to seat us with the restaurant less than half full, the service was slow but the waitress was pleasant and helpfully, The menu is large offering a range of meat and veggie dishes! As I’m on a health kick, I decided to go for the chicken kebab(with lemon, garlic and basil sauce) with rice and salad, the dish arrived with very dry chicken, rice and chip(since when was salad the same as chips). The kids meals had a good choice, my little fella wanted a pizza to which he enjoyed in full. As not a big chip eater, he likes his ketchup on the side… however the ketchup in the Heinz bottle was DEFINITELY not Heinz ketchup. Overall it was an OK meal but I wouldn’t be a returning customer

As a South African that has been living in Dublin for 6 years it is surprising that it has taken me this long to visit the Rapid River Spur. I always just assumed that you can’t replicate a good thing but on a visit to London this summer I experienced Spur beyond the shores of Cape Town for the first time and thought they were doing a damn good job at bringing a little taste of home to that particular part of west London. So it was with giddy excitement and anticipation that I dragged my Norwegian girlfriend along to Spur with me, promising her the world and trying my best to educate her on the South African steakhouse experience. What we got on arrival was not what either of us expected. To those unfortunate enough to never have experienced Spur the way I did growing up I apologise. The chips were cold, the trademark onion rings were sparse and my ribs and wings were so devoid of sauce I contemplated spilling my Castle Lager all over them for flavour. Alas the Rapid River Spur was an abject failure and certainly a waste of a commute from Ranelagh. In future I will stick to the things us South Africans have exported well, namely our ability to play rugby and Nandos.

Was here for lunch the other day, first time I have been here in years and looks very different. For those who don’t know, this place used to be part of a chain of restaurants across the UK and Ireland with the parent organisation in South Africa, however they were into administration and now it is a stand-alone entity and has been re-branded somewhat. The lunch menu looks very competitive, got the nachos for starter and they were great and cost under € 3 which was amazing. The main course ribs were nice too, and the homemade chips were fine. Service was slow even though there was less than 6 people in the place. Another couple who were there for lunch waited for 10 minutes for their food, even though we could see it sitting under warming lamps waiting for be dropped over to them, but the only working waiter was too busy chatting to his friend at the entrance desk. We didn’t stay for dessert but they had some good looking waffles with ice cream, again for under € 3 so seemed good value.

Uggggghhhh. Ok, so I knew I wasn’t booking myself in for an evening of exquisite culinary triumph, but I did at least think I would be able to obtain black pepper for my food.(There was none, in case you didn’t gather!) We waited at least ten minutes until we finally grabbed a waiter and asked for a drink with which to quench our shopping addled thirsty selves. Upon checking out the drinks menu, the prices all seemed to be inordinately high(€ 7.85 for a glass of wine?!) Our server said that the prices were all wrong and each glass was € 4.45. Ok, grand. Odd, but grand. Drinks in hand, we are then flung our knives and forks which skid along the dirty looking table. They stop at the sauce jars which have all been refilled with the wrong contents. The salad dressing in the BBQ Sauce container disturbed me the most. I’m still thinking about it.(I love a good condiment I do!) When the food arrived, it was a sight to behold. To be particularly noted, was the chicken steak and baked potato ordered by one of our party. His plate arrived with quite literally, some chicken and a potato. No sauce, no greenery, no little niceties. A sad piece of chicken with a rather threatening looking potato looming over it, both unsettlingly placed on a giant sparse desert of white plate. Now for the service. Despite the fact that our server was absolutely terrible at his job, he was a personable chap. As his register was right next to our booth, he felt it appropriate to chime in on our conversation whenever he had something to add. A bit like one of those periphery Simpsons characters, but in real life. All in all, a comical(in retrospect!) experience, but one never to be lived out again!

One of the worst restaurants I have been to. I used to come here a lot, always queuing for a table. it was a novelty. The food was always amazing and the staff was excellent. Went last week and I have never been more shocked to see the downfall of a restaurant like this. Atrocious service, worse food. I cannot even express how disgusted I feel with this place. Every staff member were untrained fools except the manager who was very good. I Will never come again and I hope no one else has to experience this. I Hope the management staff sort this before SPUR no longer exists

I have been to this restaurant on a good few occasion as its dry handy while I’m shopping in Liffey valley. I was not impressed with my last visit. When I went in the restaurant was extremely busy and there was only two waiters to serve the whole restaurant while all the rest of the waiting staff were behind the counter laughing and joking with one another in full view of customers. I felt this was not fair to the two members of staff that were run off their feet on the floor. I then made my order of a steak and chips followed by apple and a sparkling water. I received the steak and chips alright and the food was well over done. Following my main course I still had not received my desert and water and I had to ask for it three times. This never arrived down to me because the waiter that had served me was rushed off his feet while the staff continued to mess and joke behind the counter where the food was being cooked. Then when I went to pay for my food I was charged not only for my main course but for the desert and water that i had asked for and never received. I refused to pay it and i explained why. I thought this was pure disgraceful treatment for a customer who is paying good money for their food. I was very disappointed with the service of this place however I have still given it a one star because every other time I have ate in this restaurant it’s has been reasonably ok.

Next in line doesnt mean you are next to be seated!!! It depends on your group size whether you go in or wait. It’s annoying if you want to bring a big group. First of all you cant’t ring ahead to book or let them know your coming. Then you could be standing in line 20 minutes watching smaller groups arriving and been taking in before you. Once you get in the service is not that hot, the food is ok. If you have a big group and theres a cue your looking at about 2 ½ hours.

American style steakhouse located at the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. It has to be a HIT, cause they were packed out the day we went. If you are looking for a restaurant with a US menu, this might be the place you are looking for. As you get closer to Spur’s you already smell the strong Bar-B-Q scent, which only takes your appetite up a notch. The service is not like I’m used to, but«HEY! you’re in Ireland, me lad.» The food is good, I enjoyed the Baby Back Ribs, w/fries. .. should’ve went for the whole rack instead of a halve one.

The first time I ever went to Spur was when it first opened a good few years ago. The burgers were absolutely to die for, but as the crowds came in so did the not so homemade food, well burgers. But the sauce they marinade them in is absolutely to die for. My favorite at the minute are the ribs. They are so juicy and are marinated in that same smokey BBQ sauce. They have a really good deal on at the moment, where each day of the week there is a different dish on offer. Definetly a child-friendly restaraunt, as there is a little play area and loads of crayons and pictures to colour. Lovely for a family day out! :)
