Shan

I found this restaurant whilst wandering around Temple Bar wanting something different than typical touristy Irish pub fare. It’s a charming restaurant, clean and quiet. I had the special of the evening and chose the chicken tikka and poppadoms, delicious lamb korma and rice. Service was really good and the food awesome. I’d definitely visit again and would recommend if you’re in the area and want good Indian food.

Went Saturday early not impressed might be different when you have a few on you food not nice won’t go back

At first glance there doesn’t seem to be enough room for your elbows by the table, but once the food gets to see your faces, they only shine. I just couldn’t get enough of the chicken curry. 5 stars for the chef !

My husband and I shared a late night meal of chicken curry with dal, special fried rice (egg and peas and spices), garlic naan, masala chai, and some popadum. (It was probably 12:30 in the morning.) Everything was delicious. The chicken dish had large chunks of perfectly cooked white meat, tender yellow dal, and a tasty red sauce. The masala chai was the only weak point in the meal — I’m used to intensely spicy, even spicy-​hot, chai in the states, and what we had here was pretty weak — warm brown milk, essentially.
Service was very nice, and for the late hour, I’d say the restaurant was still pretty hopping — about ¹⁄₃ to ½ full at any point in our meal.

So effing good!
The naan could have been better but honestly it was one of the best meals in the best restaurants in Temple Bar that I ate at. It was a solid change from the irish stews and fish and chips I had been eating all week.
I would absolutely tell people to visit this spot. The ambiance is delightful and the service was tops. The servers that I had were friendly and charming, helped me choose a fantastic combination of flavors and a wine compliment.
Sultry lighting and animated paintings on the walls — even a little Bollywood on the video screen. A taste of Indian culture in the midst if Ireland.
It was a great experience and the food was just as good.

Hello Dublin Indian flavor~

This place is very kitsch on the inside with a huge elephant and bizarre ceiling, trippy stuff! I’ve only eaten here once, but my friend is a regular. She loves the chana masala, which I tasted and was pretty impressed with. My food (chicken biryani) was very tasty, no complaints. The onion bhajis were also really nice. The poppadoms were delicious & the sauces pretty top class. I had an extra portion! I’ll definitely be back. The prices were reasonable, for a large main & an extra portion of poppadoms I paid 15 euro.

Ate there once months ago, was not impressed. Moderate food, but open late, so why not try again? Second time, arrived around 11pm on a Tuesday to a basically empty restaurant, and were told there were no tables (?). No tables for us, mind, as apparently my friend had been there the night before and had caused trouble of some kind. Of course he was not there the night before, he was simply mistaken for someone else– or rudely discriminated against? Decide for yourself but there are plenty of better Indian restaurants in town.

I’d been craving Indian food something fierce on my recent trip to Ireland. Finally, on our last day I’d had enough. It was Indian food or bust! While walking through Temple Bar, I saw a human directional pointing to Shan’s. Sold.
I was torn between 3 or 4 stars… The food was good, but it took forever to come out. Being vegetarian, I’m used to my meals coming sooner; especially when I eat Indian food. I think they may have forgotten about us! The chutney’s and papadam were really good and very different from what we’re offered in the States– I especially liked the picked onions. I had the Aloo Mutter and vegetable samosa. The starter came with the meal and the Aloo Mutter was not spicy like I had ordered it, but both were still tasty. My sister had the Saag Paneer.
Getting the check was also difficult as we never had the same waiter twice and once our food was dropped off, we were ignored. Even when they finally took our plates, it took another 10 minutes to get the check. Maybe that’s why the couple next to us dined and dashed!
I liked the atmosphere and the late hours, but I will probably check out another restaurant next time I’m in country.

Real indian food without the fuss, a super hard working team (family ?) and charming discreet service.
Let’s add that these guys aim to be the kings of the night (I think they are open til 3 AM !), best quality meal you can get after 10 PM.
I recommend the place for a nice group dinner or a late exploration of Asian food.
Oh, forgot the very cute continuous Bollywood show on video, love it !

I ended up here because we were on a mission to find an open indian restaurant on a Sunday evening. We ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken rogan josh. We didn’t ask for either to be spicy and so neither was spicy at all. Others around us asked for spice and seemed happy with it so if you go, definitely tell them how spicy you want the food. The chicken tikka masala could have been on the dessert menu though. It was very sweet and I don’t think I’ll be ordering it again. But the service was good and friendly and the chicken rogan josh was good so I will return and order better.

I’d been to several places Indian restaurants until happening into Shan on the recommendation of a friend. For a long time I’ve been on a quest to find the best mater paneer in Dublin, or any mater paneer for that matter… To my dismay I arrived at Shan to discover that the dish is not on their menu. I got something else instead (I cannot remember what at this point) but it was tasty and I figured I’d add the restaurant to my acceptable repertoire.
Fast forward a few weeks and an intervening conversation with my friend who’d recommended Shan wherein he suggested that I just ask them to make it for me. I was skeptical, but after a night out on the liquid courage, I was able to do just that. Low and behold they were happy to oblige my probably obnoxious self. The dish arrived steaming and delicious — everything I could hope for!
The next time I came in to the restaurant the waiter immediately recognized me and asked if I’d like the mater paneer again. I was sold on Shan before that moment and now I can’t even contemplate cheating on them with anyone else.
Bottom line: friendly, pleasant service, great food, good price.

If, like me, after a busy night i nhaling guinness, all you want is some food that’s gonna make you sweat, cry, sniffle and generally melt your insides, The Shan on Crow Street, Temple Lane is the place for you. And I actually mean that as a positive remark! The food in this place is fantastic. My regular order of chicken madras has me singing Johnny Cash’s «Ring Of Fire» for a couple of days after but it’s worth it on the night.
The Staff are always friendly and the restaurant is decorated in typical indian style with the addition of beautiful wood carvings of an elephant and a cobra. LCD screens dotted around the world play the latest hits from bollywood rather than the ancient bollywood keening that emits from most Indian restaurants in the city.
Another good thng to know about The Shan is that it’s late night so you can go for a slap up Indian meal with a few beers AFTER THE CLUBS CLOSE which I think is an extremely useful thing to know!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when my friends dragged me inside Shan after closing-​time at Pygmalion. Inside the Indian restaurant we were greeted by a friendly waiter, neatly decked tables, and most importantly, civilised guests sampling various dishes over a glass of wine. No pushing. No yelling. No fighting for the last chip in the frying pan. This was just heaven.
Dinner for four (three mains+rice+naan bread) and a bottle of red set us back around € 70, and I was more than happy to pay the bill. Winding down with quality food and able to chat about the evenings highlights was a brilliant ending to a great night.

Open until 4 am, the restaurant Shan is a hub of late night activity. Instead of wasting your money on bad takeaway, try this delightful eatery located off a quiet street in Temple Bar.
I highly recommend this place because the waiters are polite and patient. The menu is similar to other Indian restaurants, with the exception that it is cheaper. And, before you order, the waiters will serve you free popadams (sorta like spicy crisps) with four dipping sauces.
Another memorable aspect of this restaurant is the large bronze elephant statue that serves as a decoration. If you’re a nice customer, the staff will take a picture of you on it.
