When I was in college in the early 90’s I worked in this same building when it was KFC and the place was kept spotless. I remember working part time there to help pay for college and scrubbing inside bins, clearing tables and working hard to maintain a high standard. Now it’s Supermac’s and I’m sad to say it just isn’t clean or inviting, at least not anymore. It kind of bugs me to see staff not caring or possibly overworking and the place so scruffy. Bins were overfull when I was there the other day, litter on floor and staff standing taliking behind the counter. My first experience of Supermac’s was not in Dublin but in Tullamore in Offaly where my cousins and I would go to eat after the local disco and the queues were out the door and the food fresh, hot and tasty. So when Supermac’s arrived I was kind of excited to see an Irish fastfood takeaway. The potential to do well is still there but something needs to be done.

**PAPAJOHN’S TAKE-OUTREVIEW** Appalling food, appalling service, appalling prices. Complaint number 1 — The person who took the order was both rude and inept. Complaint number 2 — The«beef» on the«All the meat» pizza had the flavor and consistency of something risen from the very depths of hell to marinate in the river Liffey before being placed on my pizza. Complaint number 3 — My friend ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza with NOONIONS but they seem to have misunderstood the request and gave us an Onion Chicken Pizza with NOBBQ sauce. Complaint number 4 — Upon calling to explain the error we were greeted by obnoxious employees who refused to believe they’d gotten anything wrong and actually insisted on coming to collect the Onion Pizza with NOBBQ sauce before they would refund us or credit our account. The MANAGER even demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge of their own menu. In summary — My friend ended up in tears after dealing with multiple rude employees. I ended up in tears after consuming several pieces of «beef» that shall haunt me for the rest of my days.

OMG! I do not tend to go to fast food places often but after a late night out my friends were starving and decided to go to this branch as it is open til late on weekends catering for club goers. I was not expecting much, only the basic really, and I saw much worse. A few things can get out of hand in a Dublin night out so it is normal to see many drunk lads and big queues. The workers looked exhausted and I do imagine they really were, to be fair, as it was a rowdy night. It is normal to wait for a while, also if so many people are ordering at the same time and for me all that is pretty reasonable. There was no place whatsoever to sit downstairs so we went up the steps. And wowowow! I never had seen such a messy and dirty«place where people eat». I can only figure that on weekend nights the staff don’t have time to clean up the tables and change the bin bags, so the vision was of hell on earth. The food did not look amazing and the chips were not good in my opinion, soggy and under cooked. Maybe the place can do better with the pizzas as they have good combos and deals and in a week day when hopefully it gets tidied up.

On the upside, the chips are great. On the downside, the coke tastes watered down. Decent burgers and lovely ice cream. Ah sure it’s grand. Beats McDonald’s any day.

You know, I have been eating here for over a decade and just realised I never reviewed this place. Of all the Supermacs in Ireland, this is one of the best, if not the best. As it sits in the middle of the most touristy part of the country, they do a great job keeping it clean, making sure everything is perfect, and that you don’t have to wait too long for anything. This location also hosts a Quiznos subs and Papa Johns pizza so no matter what you are in the mood for, you can find it here. I usually find myself here about 2:30AM after a night out on the lash. You know maybe it’s not a good thing they have all three take aways in one place, as I have in the past ordered a large pizza for take away… then order a snack box to eat while I was waiting. Yes, it was utterly disgraceful… but so delicious at the time!

Came here for a late night snack. Was in the mood for fries and here was many different types of fries to choose from. From curry to chili they had it all. I settled on some plain fries and they were great! Hot, crispy but thick. I really enjoyed them. Came back the next night for the chicken snack box(breast, thigh, fries) and my fiancé had the supermac burger. The chicken was good! Not to oily. The skin was light but crispy just like I like it and there was a lot of meat. My fiancé found his burger to be just Ok but he was expecting a Big Mac so he was a tough critic.

Walked in here after indulging in Guinness on our first night in Ireland(Guinness just tastes better in Ireland!). So I needed food!!! The fries were pretty goo, d but I always love fries. The burger looked good… like a big mac but the meat was flavorless filler. I couldn’t even finish it(which is very odd for me).

I only provide the full star rating based on the garlic cheese fries, which have never let me down whilst drinking in Dublin. And the shakes? Like unicorn juice. Supermac’s is open late and satisfies all your late night, drunk cravings. I don’t recommend trying the meat products. Look sketch-a-feric.

Had a burger. Not Super. Made me slightly sad and instead wished I waited in line for McDonalds…

Let me start off by saying, I had quite a few pints and some whiskey before I ate here… That being said… «THEIRFOODISTHEBESTINTHEWORLD!!!» Now for the sober/logical me review… Centrally located, burgers, fried chicken, coleslaw fries(chips) or curry fries(chips) and best of all inexpensive… I can reasonably say… «THEIRFOODISTASTYANDSATISFIESTHEDRUNKENMUNCHIES!!!»

Supermacs is there any type of food they don’t do? but I can’t help but think specialisation might make the actual food better. Went there after a few drinks on Saturday night — not quite enough drinks though! Got the chicken tenders meal, which was a bit dry as it came with no sauce, but otherwise ok. And you know its now exactly the cheapest fastfood option either. Couldn’t help but feel I would have enjoyed McDs more. Went for a bit of ice-cream for dessert and it was a bit on the tasteless side. I’ve learned from experience to avoid their whipped ice-cream which has a decidedly plastic taste. The scoop ice-cream is marginally better, but not a whole lot. Meh, I say, meh!

Es muy parecido a un McDonald’s o Burguer King, ofrece poca cosa más que estos a un precio superior.

Oh Supermac’s… I wanted to like you. You were a «local» fast food chain. I got to Dublin and though I should try your food because it was cheap and not a McDonald’s or Burger King… but it wasn’t good. And there were random security guards harassing people for no reason… and crazy homeless ladies yelling at me and my friends about things that didn’t make any sense. Sorry Supermac’s but next time I’ll resort back to the fast food I know. I’m sorry. I tried.

I love Supermacs! If, like me you think it’s a haven of fast food delights during the day, then after a big night out you literally put it in the same confederacy as any gourmet bistro or the most refined of eateries. But sincerely, I do not just rate it with my beer goggles on as I earnestly believe it to be one of the fast food chains higher up the pecking order than some of the other browbeaten, sad excuses for what is supposed to be the realm of fun, quality fast food establishments. What I like about Supermacs is that on the one hand it offers an entertaining eating experience accentuated by a vivid interior yet, and this is the imperative part, it never takes away from what is primarily a seriously mouth-watering menu. The Smokey Bacon Burger and Curry Cheese Fries is my favourite thing to order but it is the plush muffin and(Chocolate or Blueberry) ice-cream desert that really enlivens my taste buds. A quality desert with an abundance of lovable, sweet flavour and substance in the form of a wonderfully dense muffin makes the whole experience a terrific one.

Alright, i walked by this place and thought, «Mcdonald’s rip off». but yet, I still had to go in and make a comparison. The burger I had was plain jane. I think it tasted like the burgers I had in middle school. but this place offers alot more for a good price. Burgers, chicken sandwhiches… etc 7 different types of fries philly cheese stake. potato dishes smooties sub sandwiches like subway desserts coffee fried chicken like KFC It was like 6 food chains rapped in to 1. 3 euros got me a burger, fries and a medium drink. probably the cheapest place I ate my whole trip to Ireland and London.

I won’t hear a bad word be said about Supermacs. As a country person I was pretty much reared on this stuff. This was our McDonalds, our Burger King and our KFC all rolled into one. We thought Supermacs was the holy grail of fast food — simply because we didn’t know any better. We didn’t have anything else, not even some random chippers! I am pretty much addicted to their curry sauce and their chicken burgers are YUM. I’ve only eaten in the Dublin branch a couple of times. To me, it’s not the full experience unless you’re down the sticks.

Ahhhhhh Supermac’s! Both the bane and the brine of my Irish experience, Supermac’s has, like an old friend, always been there for me, no matter how badly I treat it. And usually it’s pretty badly… I only ever catch up with this friend when rottenly drunk, but up until now, that hasn’t completely destroyed our relationship(phew!) It has been often that I have introduced the gourmet delights of Supermac’s to a Supermac’s virgin… and there’s no better way to strike up a lifelong Supermac’s friendship than with a hearty serving of taco fries at 3am! Supermac’s was a huge feature of my time in Galway, and every time I go back, I have to make an early morning visit to my fave restaurant. A trip to Supermac’s can often be the source of unexpected high-calibre entertainment. Just last week my friends and I were transfixed by a certain drunken Supermac’s devotee who enjoyed his meal so much that he went fishing around on the floor for the fries he’d accidentally knocked off his plate. We stared in awe as he picked up every single one of them and proceeded to put them in his mouth… fascinating stuff! So there you have it… Supermac’s will always be there for you, no matter how drunk or sober you are(but I recommend you be drunk, it tastes soooo much better that way). Supermac’s sure ain’t no fair weather friend. I must say I’m a bit of an under-the-weather friend in return, however…

I always associate Supermacs with going down ‘the country’ and this could have something to do with our bus driver’s preference for stopping at the branch in Moate on our annual trips to the Gaeltacht. Whatever the reason, it feels a bit strange to pop into the branch in Dublin and I get the distinct impression that there’s a higher proportion of rural lads and lassies here than in any other fast food joint in town. Somebody should do a study on it. Supermacs really tries to be all things to all people — pizza, ice-cream, sandwiches, muffins, burgers, chips, sundaes, smoothies — it will stop at nothing to serve you all possible food genres, perhaps that’s why it’s called SUPERmacs! Superhero status would be cemented for Supermacs if they could prove their website’s bold claim that they were the ‘pioneers’ of Irish ‘delicacies’ like curry chips and the snack box. A very bold claim indeed Supermacs!
